Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin was one of the best players for the Gunners in their 1-3 win over Partizan in Belgrade as he revealed he is surprised by Braga’s 0 points in Group H.
Speaking to his personal website after Tuesday’s game, the Russian explained how the home side started well, putting a lot of pressure on Arsenal who were however brave enough to respond and create goal opportunities.
After taking the lead thanks to his goal after a brilliant one-two with Jack Wilshere, the Gunners conceded from the spot and missed one themselves before putting the game to bed in the second half. And, according to the Russian, the win is a very good result as it puts them in a very good position in the group although he was somewhat disappointed for not scoring more.
The 29-year old midfielder concluded by showing his surprise at Shakhtar Donetsk’s big win away from home as the Gunners will now prepare Sunday’s game against Chelsea with Arshavin hoping in a good game of football.
After Partizan, he said:
I think that we looked better in the first half than Partisan. Although in the first ten minutes of the game they were trying to pressurize, they were driven by the fans and wanted to score first. But our game did not allow them to take the lead.
We had a lot of scoring chances. I, among the others, could have scored a couple of times in the first half. If this had happened, all would have ended before the break. Leading in score, we missed a penalty. Then, in the positional fight we completed the first half.
In the second half, we have earned a penalty and a rival player was sent off. Unfortunately, we didn’t manage to score a penalty. However, the team continued to possess the advantage and that led to another two goals. I think that this victory is a good result.
I scored only one goal. In the other moments, my skills failed me.
I am surprised by the [Braga] result because I consider Braga a good team. I have not seen the review of the round, so I can’t say why it happened.
There is a confrontation with Chelsea ahead of the National team game. It’s a good opponent. I hope it will be a good match.
