Despite losing by a two-goal margin against Chelsea, Arsenal have a lot of positive to take away from the Stamford Bridge game and manager Arsene Wenger knows it.
Speaking immediately after the game, the Frenchman explained how he is not angry at his players but sorry for them because they played an outstanding game in which they didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. Wenger stressed the importance of taking chances as he admitted how when you don’t take them you get punished.
On individual performances, the manager explained how 18-year old Jack Wilshere had to be replaced after suffering from fatigue but had a very good game in which he gave everything.
Asked about Laurent Koscielny’s bad miss at the start of the game, Wenger explained how the Frenchman failed to make a proper impact with the ball after failing to turn his body properly.
The Gunners will be back in action on October 16th, day on which they will face Birmingham at the Emirates. Three days later, they will host Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League, always at the Emirates, game which will mark the return of striker Eduardo to his old Club.
On Chelsea’s game, Wenger said:
I feel sorry for my team because they had an outstanding attitude and an outstanding display. You can only congratulate them for that attitude. I feel sorry for the fact that they have not been rewarded but we live in a realistic world and when you don’t score and don’t take your chances then you don’t win big games.
[Jack Wilshere] finished a bit tired because he gave everything but he’s 18 years of age and we see what he did today and you can only say ‘Congratulations Jack’ and keep going.
I think [Koscielny] was too much turned towards the corner. Instead of turning his body and facing the goal he did not adjust to the ball.
