Last Sunday’s 0-3 win over Manchester City away from home will go down as one of the best games by Arsenal this season. And according to Andrey Arshavin, there’s more to come.
Speaking to his official website after the game, the Russian started by analysing the game, saying how the home side started really well but were bravely denied by goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. The midfielder added how the sending off of Dedryck Boyata helped the Gunners who went on to use the numerical advantage in the right way.
Despite the big scoreline, the 29-year old believes it was not an easy game and it was only after the second goal that the players knew that they were heading towards a very good win away from home.
Arshavin, who produced the assist for Samir Nasri’s first goal, was full of optimism as he explained how the Gunners will keep on fighting to catch Chelsea and how their objective is to win every single game and every single tournament.
Speaking about the disappointing defeat against West Bromwich Albion at home, the Russian concluded by saying how the players learned their lesson as every team, big or small, can produce an upset if the concentration is not right.
After the Manchester City game, Arshavin said:
Yes, they had a good moment at the beginning of the match, when we were saved by our goalkeeper. And the sending-off of their player made the rest. All we had to do is just use this numerical advantage right. Actually, that was exactly what we did.
I can’t say that it was easy. Throughout the first half, the hosts were showing their character, fighting on every inch of the pitch. I guess it would have continued that way if we hadn’t scored our second goal.
They were vibrant, attacked dangerously. If they had managed to score, it would have been much harder to play with them. But now we can look at the outcome of this game and just enjoy this important victory. We used our chances and therefore won so big.
We continue the race against Chelsea. And now we should continue to play in the same vein with desire to win every match and every tournament. And we will try to do it this Wednesday.
I can’t say that the wins come easily to us. Well, maybe apart from this one home win against Blackpool 6-0. The other times we won not only due to the skills of our players but we also showed our character. Look at the standings of the English championship. All the teams are very close to each other. There is a lot of fighting, there are no big gaps.
The West Bromwich defeat taught us a lesson. Now any rival can bring some unpleasant surprises. Therefore, we will concentrate on the game against West Ham.
