One of Arsenal’s most talented players during the Invincibles years was Dutch midfielder Marc Overmars who revealed how he still thinks of his old Arsenal days.
Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the 37-year old explained how he feels homesick when he remembers the days at the Club, a period during which he enjoyed his best days as a professional footballer.
Asked about the goal he scored at Old Trafford which helped Arsenal to secure the double that season, he explained how it was a turning point as they started the game nine points behind Manchester United so it was vital to win and help the Gunners stay in the title race.
The former Ajax and Barcelona player concluded by saying how Arsenal went on to win all their games during that season and how his goal was almost always in TV as a clear demonstration of how important it turned out to be.
On his Arsenal days, Overmars said:
It’s unbelievable.
When I think about my [time at Arsenal] I get a little homesick of the good old days, we had a great period, also personally as a player I had some fantastic years.
It was a turning point for Arsenal, from 1997 until years after, because we won many trophies.
The goal [at Old Trafford] was amazing. I mentioned a turning point before, that was really a turning point for Arsenal FC, we were nine points down and had we lost the match it would have been over but from that moment we won every game.
I remember every week it was on every Sports show with one fan in the crowd which I will always remember.
