Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin was according to many the man of the match for Gunners against Aston Villa and speaking to his official website, the Russian was very happy and full of jokes after the game.
The 29-year old explained how the first half performance was enough for Arsenal to secure all three points, a half during which the Gunners put pressure on the home side, made vital interceptions and took full advantage of gaps in the Aston Villa backline.
According to the Russian, Gérard Houllier’s men had no reply to Arsenal’s breathtaking football which allowed the Gunners to take a two goal lead.
Asked about his reaction after scoring the 111th goal in his career, Arshavin concluding by saying how he only found the back of the net six times this season and how he intends to score at least eleven more goals for the Gunners.
After the game, Arshavin said:
I think that our game in the first half secured our victory. We have competently carried out the first half. We managed to press on; often intercepted their passes and that led to the free zones, that we broke, creating dangerous chances at the Aston Villa’s gate.
We were moving around. The first 45 minutes were very well played. Our opponent didn’t know what to do and how to play against us. Therefore, the Arsenal’s advantage has naturally turned into goals.
At half-time there were talks that even 2:0 wasn’t enough for us.
And so it happened, our “disease” has continued. We missed a goal.I’m satisfied with the result and my performance in this match. Had we lost we would have been sitting on the bus to London looking at each other like frightened bunnies!
This season I scored only 6 goals. I have to score another 11 goals in all official matches.
