Arsenal striker Theo Walcott was visibly delighted after the Gunners produced an important win against Chelsea at the Emirates on Monday.
The 21-year old produced an assist and scored one in a game which the Gunners dominated from start to finish with the Englishman explaining to Sky Sports how the players were not thinking about past defeats against the Blues as they made sure to concentrate on their defensive duties to keep the lead and get all three points.
The youngster was happy to see all players giving it all as he added how everything worked for the Gunners who made Chelsea look average at times.
The striker concluded by saying how the win is dedicated to the fans as he admitted how in previous years the Gunners were disappointing in big games but how yesterday’s win could be the start of something big for Arsenal.
After the win, Walcott said:
We didn’t think about [the past defeats] at all. It was in the past. We were concentrating on the defensive of the game today. Everyone pressed. It was so good to see.
Not just the starters, but the players who came on as well. They pressed and we didn’t give Chelsea space at all. We did that throughout the 90 minutes.
I think everything went well for us. We made Chelsea look average at times. We played some great football and not just the pressing. It was fantastic to see.
We wanted to do that for the fans. In recent years we’ve been disappointing and we’ve not got the result, but tonight we’ve shown the fans what we can do and hopefully we’re ready for the season. It was a fantastic result for us.
