Arsenal are in the final of the Carling Cup. After five years without a trophy, the Gunners are very close to end their nightmare as they booked their place for Wembley, next month.
Answering questions after the game in his post-match press conference, manager Arsene Wenger confessed the team is hungry for success as he explained how Ipswich were a tough nut to crack over the two legs clearly showing how much the Championship has improve in the last six years.
With the Gunners scoring three goals including a brilliant solo effort from Nicklas Bendtner, the Frenchman explained how at half-time he told the players to focus on not conceding, to be patient and to keep believing until the very end.
On his plans for the last week of the January transfer window, Wenger concluded by saying how there is nothing to report and how he would be surprised if this changes before the window comes to an end. Not easy as free betting, the signing of a new player will only happen, according to the Frenchman, if someone special is spotted.
After the 3-0 win, Wenger said:
This team is hungry for success, I said that many times. You could see that. We kept going, we refused to show any weakness and overall I think an average team against Ipswich being 1-0 down would not have qualified
We played Leeds and Ipswich and in fairness the Championship has improved a lot in the last five, six years. Physically they do not weaken at all, they keep going and when we analyse the physical performance of Ipswich they are at the level of the Premier League, no problem.
[At half-time I] told them to keep our priorities right, that is continue to defend well and not expose ourselves too much by rushing our game. We needed to be calm, patient, even if we had to go into the last 20 minutes. We had to continue to believe in our game.
I feel we have the opportunity now we are in the Final to win one. What I am convinced about is that we will go with the same heart for everything, then we will see.
I believe we have a chance to deliver but now we are in the Final we need to deliver the needed performance on the day. That is part of the mental strengths as well. Transfer-wise there is no news and I would be surprised if there is any.
