Arsene Wenger on Alex Song’s injury and his team’s slow start

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was visibly delighted with his side’s win at the Emirates over Everton but showed concern on the injury of midfielder Alex Song.
Speaking after the game, the Frenchman admitted the Gunners were under pressure in the first half and how their passing game was lacking although the player’s never die attitude prevailed as they managed to hit back and score two goals in the last twenty minutes of the game.
Asked why the Gunners suffered such a slow start in which they allowed Everton to dictate the game, the Arsenal boss explained how the many games played during the last month could have affected the players as he praised his side for a very good second half in which one could feel they could score at any moment.
On the reason why Alex Song was substituted before the start of the second half, Wenger concluded by saying that the midfielder is in pain and cannot walk and how he will undergo a number of tests in the coming days to determine for how long the injury will keep him out.
On Tuesday, Wenger said:
I’m very happy today because we won against a good Everton side. We had problems in the first half getting started. I feel we had chances but our game lacked a bit of cohesion in the passing and we lost some balls down to good closing-down from Everton and as well to some technical mistakes.
And today I would say it was more a victory of a team with fantastic spirit and a never-say-die attitude than our usual game. But that of course is needed in a competition like that.
I don’t know [why we started slowly], but we [have] played game-after-game. Sometimes it can take you a while to get into the game. In the second half I think it was all us, and you could feel that any moment we could score. We kept going and Everton dropped in the second half.
[Alex Song] cannot walk. I don’t know what he has got. He was kicked, I think it was by Koscielny, he knocks out everybody in our team. So we have to see how he responds to that in the next days, but he cannot walk at the moment.
