Arsenal centre-back Ignasi Miquel was delighted after playing the full ninety minutes, for the Gunners, against Leyton Orient in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Making his debut with the senior squad and doing impressively well, the 18-year old explained to Arsenal TV Online after the game how the objective of the players was to win the game and avoid a replay which unfortunately they failed to do and how therefore they now have to bounce back and make sure to get the job done when the two teams meet in the first week of March at the Emirates.
According to the Spaniard, Arsenal had plenty of chances in the game including Marouane Chamakh’s 34th minute sitter with the Moroccan failing to make a clean contact with the ball to meet Kieran Gibbs’ cross from the left.
Asked about how it was to be in the dressing room with the regular squad, Miquel concluding by saying that it was unbelievable as he admitted that it will not be easy to feature again now that injured players are coming back in the side.
After the game, the youngster said:
We obviously wanted to win here, we’ve got a lot of games to play but they scored in the last minute, I think it was a good goal for them, nothing to do [if not] win the next game.
They played a solid game at the back, we had chances but we didn’t score, I think it was Chamakh, he got really a good [chance] in the first half when Gibbs crossed but this is football and if you don’t score you sometimes concede a late goal and that’s it.
I think it went quite well [with] the only [negative] point is that we conceded a last-minute goal which doesn’t help a lot. But I’m quite happy with my performance, I think I’ve got a lot of things to improve on but I think I did all right.
[The atmosphere in the dressing room] is unbelievable, to be around with all that quality players, I’m so happy, so happy to be with them and I’m trying to get more chances.
Obviously now I want to keep getting on the bench and try to play more but I know it’s hard, not easy as players are coming from injury so there are more players in there.
