Andrey Arshavin determined to fight to lift “first English trophy”

Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin is back. After a below-par patch towards the end of last year, the Russian is back firing on all cylinders and ready to help the Gunners win their first trophy in five years.
Speaking to his personal website after the win over Stoke on Wednesday, the midfielder explained how it was an easy start to the game for Arsenal who dominated, found an early goal and could have increased their lead. But having failed to do so, Stoke started to come forward with the 29-year old praising the defensive department for not allowing the away side to create chances in the final third.
Asked about injuries to Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott – who will both miss Sunday’s final against Birmingham – the Russian said that ideally all players should be fit during such an important part of the season as he added how everyone will be determined to fight to win the Cup.
Arshavin came on in the 14th minute of the game against Stoke after captain Cesc Fabregas suffered a hamstring injury with manager Arsene Wenger revealing it’s very difficult to predict for how long it will keep the Spaniard out of action.
On Thursday, the Russian said:
The beginning of the match was easy for us. We were creating chances and dominating the pitch. I think that we had to score another goal. Unfortunately, it didn’t happen. I guess that’s why at some point Stoke managed to “freeze” the game.
Although we tried to attack but somehow we were creating few chances. I’m glad that we competently played defense, not allowing our opponent to create anything in front of our gate. It may be only worth recalling that episode when Wojciech rescued the team.
It’s a pity that our players got injured again. This is very bad. The important matches are coming, we need healthy players. But I hope that Cesc’s and Theo’s injuries turn out to be not that serious, and they will be back in the ranks soon. We are ready that there will be a lot of fighting. This is the final. And I also want to win my first English trophy.
