Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was visibly disappointed after Arsenal crashed out of the F.A. Cup on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Frenchman explained that is hard to crash out of three competitions in a “strange” way as he added that his side was not outplayed by the Red Devils, just punished by a team who was more clinical in front of goal.
Asked if the Gunners can bounce back and win the English Premier League, the Arsenal boss replied by saying that they can, that it is a good test for the mental strength of his players and how not playing mid-week games will hopefully help his side in the battle with Manchester United for the title.
On the mental strength of his side, Wenger continued by saying that many will ask this type of question in the coming weeks and how it’s the player’s job to show that they have an answer ready on the pitch, showing that they are strong enough to deal with what comes next.
On Saturday, Wenger said:
I am very disappointed. We lost three challenges in a strange way. We were not outplayed today but we were punished by a team who were more clinical than us.
I believe that we can [win the Premier League]. It is a good test for us now, to show that we can regroup, show our mental strength and respond quickly. We have a week without a midweek game, that is the first time for a long time.
We will have to [answer] this type of question [on our mental strength] in the next few weeks. We have to show that we have an answer to that. We are used to being questioned by our environment, we have to show we are strong enough to deal with that.
