On-loan Arsenal striker Benik Tunani Afobe believes the loan spell with Huddersfield Town was beneficial for his professional career as he hopes to be promoted to the Championship next season.
Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the 18-year old wants promotion to be the first important thing in his career as he explained that it only took him a couple of weeks to settle down at his new club.
Fully recovered from injury, the Englishman explained it was not easy to feature in the regular side because of the number of strikers already available for manager Lee Clark but how he is now being picked and enjoying life in West Yorkshire.
Afobe was full of praise for team-mate Jordan Luke Rhodes as he explained that the two understand each other and have a similar game as they both like to score goals and attack defences when presented with an opportunity to do so.
On life at Huddersfield, Afobe said:
It would be nice to get promoted, it would be the first thing [I have achieved] in my first-team career.
It would be nice to do that and hopefully it will happen because I felt settled there after two weeks, it’s getting better and better there.
I’ve been training quite well recently, my injury has finished now so I am getting more of a chance. It’s been hard because we have five strikers but I’ve been training well and the gaffer has been picking me. I just want to repay him by doing a job on the pitch.
You want to be starting every game and when you start more games, you gain confidence and the goals come. The more [Jordan Rhodes and I] play together, the more we understand each other which is good for the team.
We work well together because I like to run the lines and he plays a bit more central. We are similar in that we both like to score goals and attack defences. I think it works well having two strikers like that.
