Theo Walcott: I’m constantly mistaken for Formula 1’s Lewis Hamilton

Written by Renzo on April 7, 2011 – 4:45

Arsenal Interactive - Squad SelectorLewis Hamilton or Theo Walcott?

Arsenal and England midfielder Theo Walcott confirmed he is often mistaken for Formula 1’s driver Lewis Hamilton.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the 22-year old joked how he was twice mistaken for his compatriot, first by someone who didn’t even realise he had the Arsenal man in front of him and then by someone who luckily understood he was not facing the McLaren star.

Winner of the 2008 Formula 1 Championship, Hamilton is a big Arsenal fan and confessed that if Formula One had not worked for him he would have been a footballer.

Walcott also explained how fans want to remember him the day he decides to call it a day as he joked that it would be nice if he is remembered as the quickest footballer to play for the Gunners and also – on a more serious note – as a nice guy who stayed out of trouble hence never on the front page of newspapers.

A relaxed-looking Walcott told Arsenal TV Online:

I was in my car and someone came to me and said, “You were unlucky in the race the other day” and I was like, “What?”, then he came back and said, “I’m so sorry, I thought you were Lewis Hamilton”. He went off, he didn’t think I was Theo Walcott so it was quite cool.

And someone else, the other day, a couple of weeks ago, someone asked me, “Lewis, can I have your autograph?” and I told him, “I’m not Lewis, mate”. Then he looked at me and said, “Oh, you’re Theo Walcott!”.

[How I want fans to remember me when I retire?] Just the player who was the quickest on the planet.

That, and one who gets the fans out of their seat, who entertains them by scoring goals. That’s what I want to be remembered for, and the nice guy I am hopefully, staying away from front pages of newspapers.

  • Jon Toral says:

The person in your picture is Theo Walcott not Lewis Hamilton.

  • TheIceManCometh says:

This is actually pretty funny considering Theo should be famous himself. Normally it’s a regular person mistaken for a star not a star mistaken for another star. Just put those balls in the net and people will start to ask Lewis Hamilton for Theo Walcott’s autograph.

  • George says:

You’ll have to admit it ! Theo is faster than Hamilton.!

  • Arselicked says:

They look similar. I bet most of us can’t tell from the above picture if its Walcott or Hamilton

  • yonald says:

How about growing some hair and give yourself a new image? People won’t mistake you with someone else :)

  • Kim says:

    Heheh

  • Alpha T says:

You guys must be blind, apart from both being mixed race, cant see the similarity!

  • jack says:

those people must be blind. walcott is not ugly like hamilton.in fact walcott looks good.

  • clockendrider says:

Really Theo? Is that because Hamilton can’t control a football and has no idea how to receive a ball or where to take up a position on the pitch either?

  • serge says:

how arsenal can win this season if walcott re-injures himself:

    kidnapp Lewis
place him in a number 14 arsenal shirt
play him deep on the right wing
the opposition mistaking him for walcott will hold a very deep line

    problem solve

also i found a vanpersie look a like

    • Chris says:

Take it easy Serge, your negativity is a little “excessive”.

  • mkaya says:

i hope next time he is on the pithch i can mistake hium fo messi or henry with. not that he can be all that.

CHRIS I DNT C UPDATES ON OUR ASIAN STAR (RHIYO) THESE DAYS. HOW IS HE DOING, I THOT THAT HE WAS THE ONE FOR NEXT SEAZN???

    • Chris says:

There is way too much on Ryo Miyaichi in my opinion, he came from nowhere yet it seems he is the answer to all our questions.

      But is he?

      • mkaya says:

not necesarily but he could be. he lookes more off a natural winger too me. with his ball crontrol and skiils we might just have someone who can deliver early ball into the box for a change. its obviou sthat we dnt core because we take to long to give the ball to our strikers. by the time they can the bal the defenders element of suprice is lost and the striker can do nathing with the ball but pass it back because there is no space to manfacture a shot on goal.

that how other teams are scoring. you loom at the last game and you can see thats waht hapended despite wenger sayong rovers defended well. they did defend well because the recognised oiur weakness and we failed to change tacticks.

take a look at rooneys goal against chlski last night, then angel de marias against and you will reaslise thats what arsenal lacks. our wingers dont cut inside and shoot, if they do its very rare. balls dont go early into the box. we want to move the ball with the whole team behind.

        • serge says:

          i agree with chris,
also this kid is yet to be a stand out, players who stand out such as fabregas messi rooney shine at a young age
tops he may make arshavins level which is a good achievement

          • mkaya says:

its not about him being a stand out or changing the whole team. atacking wise he looks a positive addition and he might just be the one to push nasri in the midle whre most people prefer to see him play.

he cant be and i the answer to all our questions. we talk so much of our defence but i honeslty think our bigest problem scoring. we are to patient with geting the ball into the area. if we can do that then we can catch out defences and score.

        • Chris says:

Mkaya, you just described Carlos Vela in your comment.

  • ne says:

fight for the team mate, work hard, win a trophy, be humble and trust me, the arsenal fan will never forget you. but i think the barca team might have remember you..

  • sems says:

Well They are Both ,Incredibly Fast,Incredibly Talented and entertaining .Love’em both :D (Except I am no t a fan of Mclaren)

  • stevie says:

You know what Theo? I don’t give a damn if you looked like Angelina Jolie. I’d much rather you looked like Pele and play like him.

  • jul says:

@Serge that is very funny. hahahahaa but i agree with chris that its a little excessive.

  • nonso says:

i can’t just help but laugh, they r both good in dere seperate ways.so lets give dem dere deserved credit but i fink walcot shud work hard so pple cud mistk hamilton 4 him.lol nuf said
