Chairman brands fans silly people who make stupid comments, the Club replies

Written by Jeffrey on April 10, 2011 – 4:45

Arsenal Interactive - Squad SelectorPeter Hill Wood and Arsene Wenger

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill Wood declared the Club is 100% behind manager Arsene Wenger after questions were asked following last week’s goalless draw against Blackburn.

Speaking to the Daily Star, the Englishman branded some of the Club’s supporters as silly people who make stupid comments as he added that some comments made can do a lot of damage since in today’s game it is impossible to achieve all set targets.

Hill-Wood said:

We are 100% behind him. That is always a dangerous statement, but I can assure you it has not crossed our minds that we wouldn’t support him 100%.

I simply cannot believe he will react to these stupid comments from these silly people. They are supposed to be supporters, but, in fact, they do quite a lot of damage.

We have set the bar high and everybody expects us to achieve that every year, but it simply isn’t possible. If you keep changing managers every nine months, you get into even more trouble.

According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal issued a statement following the comments by the chairman in which it is explained that the fans “are at the heart of what we are here to do and that will always be the case”:

As we all know, emotions can run high in football many times throughout a season. It’s because we all care about our club. Our fans are at the heart of what we are here to do and that will always be the case.

We have always had a uniquely strong working relationship with Arsenal Supporters’ Trust and other supporters’ groups and this is important to us.

    STFU!!!!
we deserve WAY more than what we have right now…if we were like the manutd or chelsea fans, arsene wenger wouldn’t have survived all these years.

    • Mark says:

you STFU…you deserve nothing…Wenger and the team DESERVE! Deserve our unconditional support…coz they do a fine job…the silver cups will come…in the meantime, go to your kitchen, open the cupboard, and marvel at the silver pots and pans

      • Oti says:

Lol in as much as I wanted to hit back angrily, I see ur comment lol funny

  • Nam says:

Arsenal football fans are the most fickle. Vanity is far more important to them majority of them than the survival and/or long term interests of their supported club.

No pundit this season said Arsenal could finish above fourth but where are we? Second with a game in hand. We have again over achieved.

Wenger is being criticised for not buying a keeper. We do need a keeper but us not signing a keeper is not the fault of Wenger. He bid £25 million on Reina in the summer which was declined by Liverpool. He bid 5 million for Schwarzer which was too much for a player with maybe 1-2 years left and who is nowhere near the quality of Givemn, Reina, Casilles, Buffon, Van Der Sar. He is only marginally better than Almunia so an increased bid would have been folly.

Many pundits are stating that Wenger’s failure to buy a centre back and keeper have cost us the title. These aren’t the areas where a goalkeeper or a defender really has much of an influence. Yes there have been one or two errors (West Brom) but our most notable defeats have resulted from a lack of midfield control and creativity and attacking prowess which is more of a sign of the pressure getting to the forward players.

Arsenal fans are ungrateful, have expectations which are unrealistic and pathetic. Arsenal fans trust are currently a cancer which if unchecked will destroy this great club just like the vain and myopic fans across Britain have already brought other big clubs to their knees.

Speaking of profit, only a complete fool would believe for even a second that trophies are thrown away for the sake of it. Anything made from player sales goes to reduce the club debt which is still quite considerable and the winning of trophies would ease that burden even further. Arsenal ran at a loss last year so these slurs against the board are not only justified, but idiotic, asinine and puerile.

Each year where we refuse to spend big and still over achieve is another feather in the cap for Arsenal as they should now be preparing for life after Wenger and let me tell you something which is a fact. When Arsenal goes, we’ll need every damned penny we can get our hands on because there is not one person currently in the Premier League who can do what Wenger is doing to the same level and degree and that us MANAGE, To manage is to do the best you can with what you’ve got.

I see anyone with an opposing view as a genuine threat to the future of the club, I care more about Arsenal being there for my kids that a trophy in the next 10 years. These fickle fans just want bling and shiny stuff, like cats, magpies and other mindless creatures. These so called fans are my enemy and an enemy of Arsenal. iof you want bopught success, there are plenty of teams out there who mirror your ethos, please go “support” them.

Arsenal fans in general have been awful for years. They didn’t call Highbury the Library for nothing.

    • Foolio says:

Zzzzzz, lets be realistic here, all you blind fools would believe that football clubs are folding left right and centre, but they’re not. Sick of reading the same poor excuses for BLIND faith.Personally, I am not anti Wenger, just want him to shake things up in summer which is needed, change and conrontation are the catalysts for innovation, atm it is stagnant.

He wont do this so he has to go. The road we are going down we’re losing the next generation of supporters.

      • olu says:

THANK YOU!!! Not only won’t they do what they need to do, they are getting brazenly arrogant and fat and rich. These people earn millions to insult arsenal fans who are emotionally and financially vested in this team and coaching staff who carry on like they have all the time in the world to start delivering. I WANT TROPHIES NOW!. On paper we have better players than manure.
Sagna is better than rafael but that manure kid can fight (like a champion)! Fabregas is better than every manure midfielder but look at giggs go at 37 (his heart belongs to barca. no shocker there). Song is better than fletcher but skinny fletch saves his team with those little tiny fouls that go unpunished. Clichy is better than that slow evra if he can swallow his pride and put the ball out to touch sometimes (and learn to contest air balls). RVP is deadlier than any united striker if he can stay fit (med staff problem) and stop roaming out of position whenever he gets to captain his team or want the win too bad. Arshavin is a genius if he cam be bothered (i’ll take park ji sung any day). Walcott is not quite as good as nani but i’ll take Theo’s pace any time, anyday plus i like the kid. Samir is trickier than every manure player except stupid nani. Wilshere is the best (just think anderson, carrick, gibson and co). Djourou is better than smalling but look at how that kid wants to succeed really bad it shows. Ramsey vs Gibson. Gibbs vs fabio. JET vs Bebe. Vela vs hernandez (well united got lucky with chicharito and he gets more games than vela gets).
Question 1: With all these talents at the club don’t we deserve a better goalie like crazy Lehmann in his prime, a nasty defender like vidic and a Patrick Vieraesque to back these fragile but talented players up?
Question 2: Does wenger need to brush up on his coaching skills which has become outdated and ineffective against “weaker” sides like sunderland, west brom, blackburn rovers, hull city, stoke city, newcastle, birmingham etc?

See i do not care if we lose against manure, chelsea and barca so long as we give our best. No easy games but come on, how many points do we lose to newly promoted sides and “weaker’ teams every season. I sweat more when we play lesser teams! The problem is wenger’s strategy (i belie he has only one – send the boys out to do the best they can muster) and lack of winners’ mentality. And Arsenal players and coach TALK TOO MUCH!!!! I say win before you talk/boast.

    • Delpierre says:

I don’t want Wenger to leave but I want him to spend the funds that are said to be available to him each year that he keeps holding onto. I understand that saving it should mean more funds available for the future but we only need a couple of new additions to really strengthen the squad.
Also if our midfield and forwards do not have full belief in our defence and keeper it will hold them back.
On the subject of trophies thrown away for the sake of it. Your right one would not believe that. It does however seem that the club is not willing to spend because no player they bring in can guarantee that they will win us the league. Nobody can guarantee that though. The risks need to be taken though especially if there is a chance to improve an area and for sure if we had a better keeper this season we would have had a more confident squad. And we had a confidence crisis in our last few games. As I am writing this we are in poll position against Blackpool in the first half. Maybe we’ve got our belief back, I hope so. Maybe having someone like Lehman in goals who certainly believes in his own abilities has made a difference.

    • kryslergooner says:

      thats really nice mate

  • Okey Onwuagha says:

Why wont you support him when all you care about is handsome profit which he delivers yearly. We fans see the whole setup as fraud and absolute rape on desire for trophies. May be it is time to move on.

    • Metalhead says:

It’s the handsome profit that keeps the club going my friend and that is what eventually gives the club an opportunity to win trophies. Don’t make a fool of yourself by coming up with words like ‘Fraud’ and ‘Rape’. People like you support Arsenal one day and Chelsea the other.

      • Nam says:

The handsome profit pays goes to those who loaned us the cash for the stadium. It doesn’t get to the shareholders.

  • Pete says:

I would like to be able to describe wenger and phw as silly, but that would be far too generous. Deliberately tossing away titles and trophies for that extra bit of profit.

    • CLIVESON says:

Are you stupid?, surely its better for us to clear our debt then all future profits can be spent on the team rather than keeping us in debt and struggling financially.

Arsene Wenger has been a complete revelation to this club and loves this club more than most of you fickle glory hunting supporters – go and support Man Utd if trophies are all you want.

Some times i really am embarrassed to be a gooner when i come on here and read stupid comments.

Does anyone know any sensible forums?

      • Pete says:

You may be unsure as to whether I am stupid, but I am quite certain that you are.

  • hec says:

Hill -Woods comments to Arsene Wenger “Dont worry about the supporters Arsene the board couldnt care less about them , just keep making us all plenty money” thats how it all looks to the supporters.

    • Oti says:

      Thank you!

  • dev says:

one of these days that bas%ard Peter Hill is going to get his face smacked .

  • Stephen says:

PHW’s glasses are so thick he probably hasn’t even seen a football in years and only knows what wenger tells him.

  • Andy says:

wow chris…you really are trying to make the most of anything that will negatively influence Arsene’s reputation or anyone that supports him. I read the title of this article “Chairman brands fans silly people who make stupid comments” and thought to myself it can’t be….then I read PHW comments and realised I was indeed correct. According to the chariman’s statements he is labeling all anti-wenger people or “fans” as “silly.” These “people” do not encompass all Arsenal fans because there are so many Arsenal fans who support Arsene and agree with PHW’s statements. Therefore, this article should be rightfully named “Chairman brands fans who want Arsene to leave the club as silly people who make stupid comments”…and yes it makes a big difference. So in the future, try not to force us in the same boat as you mate :)

    • Paul says:

      bit defensive eh?

      • Phil23 says:

Andy is 100% correct. I agree completely with the statement. Why don’t they just “support” someone else? Once we win something they will find nobody respects them as they didn’t respect the club. Honestly PLEASE go and support United or Chelsea? PLEASE?

        • Paul says:

          why don’t you?

          • NIJUN says:

            go paul

        • Andy is correct about what exactly??? All you Mr.Wenger lovers can go with him. Because if you think football’s about profits then you go support chelsea or Man.U but don’t tell me I should. If you think Arsenal can win the PL under AW it’s like Colonel Khadfi cooking for KFC. It will never happen. It’s the wrong colonel. And if you think Arsenal is a BIG club What so called big club has a winning less manager for 6 years ummmmmmm? So you can leave with him Mr.Andy

    • Chris says:

Do you have the faintest idea how pedantic and non-sense your comment is?

      • debbos says:

I second that… !! Wenger, I am afraid, is becoming bigger than the club !! we were 10 times league champion b4 he came..7 yrs n still waiting…

just say that you support wenger and not arsenal..else you would have cared for the gut less, spine less shit that the boys dish out day after day..

  • eric says:

Money face Hill -Woods is even more silly, he can only see Money not Trophy

  • Paul says:

Hmmm, Peter Hill Wood is beginning to look a lot like Wenger’s @rsehole, must be where he spends most of his time these days.

  • Ebere Ikeh says:

peter can blab afterall his cash keeps pouring.soon himself and wenger alone will occupy the entire emirates

  • eric says:

Improper for Hill -Woods to label any fan as silly, especially when they handle over their hard earned money to pay for the ticket and live with 6 solid years without trophy.

Arsenal should be second to none, second to anyone is definitely not good enough.

Wake up, arsense need a kick on his @ss

    • Elkieno says:

I wonder how long you been supporting arsenal? I reckon a bout 8 years. Many clubs go decades with nothing at all. In grand scheme every club goes lots longer than 6 years, look at Liverpool 20+ years no league. Even utd won nothing for decades, Chelsea also nothing for 50+ years, so 6 years ain’t a big dilemma. It’s the young, new fans that demand trophy or AW gone, cos they only support arsenal so they can brag and show off at school to Chelsea and utd fans. That’s why you hear all this AW out glory hunters.
I have faith that our manager is the best out there and even if we win nothing I will be behind him all the way!!

      • RealOne says:

        Spot on Elkieno

      • NIJUN says:

        elkieno….well said!!!!!

      • ken says:

Elkieno, I think you are boasting yourself as a very long Arsenal fan. Every comments on this site are loaded with the words “silly, stupid, fool”. Well, I did not want to answer any comments but you have truely irritated me. I am an arsenal fan for more than 40 years and i do not agree with your simplistic reasonning. Do not talk about Liverpool being without trophy. They have won the champions league which we have not done yet. They have nothing to prove. In many comments fans or so called fans compare arsenal with Manu ,liverpool and Barca and also say that Arsenal is a great club. I do not think so or let me explain. We do not have the right to say we are a great club unless we win trophies or rather we should say we are a rich club with many assets. Players and the @**hole of Wenger cannot come every year and say we are challenging for all four trophies, we have the best team in the EPL, we have a quality squad or this is the best team he has trained so far. This is called “lying” and “making false promiseS”, using fraudulous marketing arguments to fill the stadium. And you are HAPPY with this and YOU AGREE. You have faith in Wenger, so, you have never felt when playing United or Barca or Chelsea that he has messed up with his tactics. You have never felt that a couple of extra millions on the transfer market could have landed a cup at Arsenal and made fans happier and eventually the more proud of being an Arsenal fan.You have never felt that may you could be wrong about him and the board and that the latter are more business minded that you. AND maybe they could be cheating you. Just go on the Arsenal site a couple of weeks ago, read all the statements given by Wenger and the players. Then may be you will start to understand how much Arsenal is a business and that money paid to buy the kits and tickets are the prime target of the board and Wenger.
I have read an article not so long ago about Arsenal Holdings, they are planning to repeat the HIghbury business with another site they have bought. So does it mean that they are going to take a loan again to develop the new project?. Is Arsenal going to repay debts for ever? Think a bit, my friend and this applies to all those who are treating their fellow fans as fool or stupid or silly.
The time has come for fans to get a “little” trophy to be proud of and to be the more motivated to be a better and greater fan.Losing continually against MANU and Barca does not help (especially against BIRMINGHAM) . Just imagine if instead of Bendtner Arsenal had a great finisher against Barca and that he could the net the great assist from Wilshere. Who is responsible? Wenger with his bloody underperforming “proteges” who we are dragging for years or the other unscoring Chamack we got for free.
FANS are now showing they are not happy. Help them pressure Wenger and the board. Do not say you are a very old fan, leave this to other people who are going to die as an Arsenal fan.
Please do not treat me as fool etc. You simply cannot, i also hold a bagful of degrees, msc, certifications and i wish to tell all the fans, take a ittle time, listen to what others have to say, THINK and do what needs to be done to bring a trophy at the EMIRATES and if need be lets PULL OUT THAT @**HOLE OF WENGER.

        • A.M says:

          Absolutely wonderful comment ken.

  • Richard says:

Profits, Profits and Profits is all PHW understands. Let the fans continue with the boos maybe AW and PHW will think twice and recruit some players for the next season.

  • Steve Palmer says:

Peter Hill Wood, would do well to stand back, take a look at the supporters who travel week after week to watch a team that are just not good enough. We as fans are not asking for the club to go overboard to buy in new players, we are not asking for the millionair board members to take a pay cut, we are asking for experienced players to be brought when the time arises, that time was January. you not only let Wenger down you let us down. The first time in years that we realisticly stood a chance of winning competitions, and being superier than the rest of the Premier, And you bury your heads in the sand. Don’t question our loyalty Question your own. Its all very well making huge profits off of the backs of supporters, and patting yourselves on the back.Putting your prices up and hitting supporters in their already stretched pockets and giveing nothing in return, is not playing the game. Lieing to supporters, telling the media there is money available and not spending, amounts to negligence, keep living your wealthy life styles and being treated like royalty, but never question the loyal supporters, who quite frankly have had enough of you and your Puppets.

  • Bontle says:

I honestly find PHW’s comments about “silly fans” extremely dissapointing. I guess it is only at Arsenal where common sense will not be allowed to prevail when it comes to evaluating the performance of management. In every organised set up if the desired results are not achieved, the management undergoes evaluation to determine if they’re still good for the job of leading the organisation. At Arsenal it seems nobody is allowed to question the way things are going even after they havent been going well for 6 years. 6 YEARS PEOPLE!!!-and when you question this you’re told to support somebody else, nonsense!! Even in a democracy a government is changed if they fail to deliver on promises in 4 years-how on earth can questioning the position of Arsenal’s lack of silver in 6 years be labeled “silly”..?

Somebody has to be able to say wait a minute here guys, does Wenger still have what it takes here, what is lacking and where could he change-and can he change most importantly, if he can’t change then change him! You cant always be suppressing a concerned voice by saying people should find other teams to support-we all love this team and no Arsenal fan loves the team more than the other!

    • Olatunji says:

And about 60,000 silly people will still be at the Emirates stadium in our next home game, some holding or raising the banner, ‘IN ARSENE, WE TRUST’… I think maybe PHW is right, they’re indeed silly people. Now think about this, how about fans stop attending the stadium on match-days and the team plays in an almost empty stadium, don’t u think the board and PHW will see the true value of the fans and things will surely change at the emirate. Do u think man u, chelsea, inter, barca, madrid and now man city will retain a coach who’ve won nothing for six years? Arsenal fans kept the faith for six years and now they’re being labelled ’silly’, well maybe they expects fans to keep the faith for 20 years before saying anything!

  • oz gooner says:

who are these stupid people who can’t handle alternative opinions and keep coming out with the old chesnut “why don’t you support someone else” Do you agree with your wife everyday ? why don’t you marry someone else ? Democracy is what our fathers and grandfathers fought for, embrace it..

  • kelly says:

i think we would all agree that real madrid fans are not as frustrated as arsenal fans despite having experienced similar results on the pitch over the last few seasons ,thus it suffices that arsenal fans are more frustrated by the sheer indifference shown by the management to persistent weaknesses in the team and not so much by the lack of trophies.its true trophies are proof of success but nobody can guarantee success not even the oil merchants but the arsenal mgt wants us to believe the obvious weaknesses in the team will just disappear though mental strength;what a shit load of hog shit! we want to see effort made to balance the team, we want a top quality DM,CB and BETTER TACTICS.

  • stantheman says:

Well, now you have heard it lowd and clear, just pay up and shut up. The relationship between the club and the customers. (oops, sorry supporters) has been clearly defined by this man. We are all an irrelevance, that is apart from the money we bring in.

  • OCH AYE KANU says:

Cutting to the chase we have been over achieving with limited money due to the stadium for 5 years now.We take being in the CL for granted which we shouldn’t.The analogy of a Wengerless Arsenal is Liverpool and we wouldnt want to be in their shoes would we.

Yes AW ia an arrogant / frustrating man but the only solution is to get David Dein back as his partner in some form as it is no coincidence that our baron years have coincided with a Dein less Arsenal and they were a dynamic duo as opposed to all the yes men who currently surround AW.

  • david seas... says:

i guess PHW and his board members should fill up emirates,as 4 me i will never go again as long as these heartless and selfish board members are still at arsenal!

  • ygunner says:

The fans comments aren’t silly the only silly comments are the ones made by arsene during his conference how can he state 2nd place is not a disaster it doesn’t do anything to get the team going simply just give them the idea they can carry out not putting effort cause second best is good ! Football is a sport where you are judged on by positioning in the league and what you win not how much you make I support the club for footballing reasons not the fact we make x amount of pounds

  • nicky says:

An unfortunate remark by the Chairman of ANY Club.
He must remember that the heart of any Club is the folk who turn up every match day and pay their ticket money.
It is good that the Board is 100% behind the Manager but it is understandable that the fans are impatient for success. A lot of the trouble at Arsenal stems from poor PR. The fans see poor results and team performances and at the same time, excuses are doled out about the inexperience of youth, poor referee decisions, injuries and a sub-standard pitch. Transfer windows come and go, without buying players that the fans feel would meet the Club’s needs. They may be mistaken in many cases but no-one does a PR job and offers an explanation. Cue for disgruntled fans to abuse the Manager.
The forthcoming close season should be used to remove any dead wood, bring in replacements and review tactics…….especially the introduction of a Plan B when games are going against us and mental toughness is needed.

  • Steve Palmer says:

I have heared a few comments by loyal Arsenal fans, asking for DD to come back, maybe you are right, but in my eyes we want to move forwards, bringing Lehman back was a mistake, he brings nothing for the future, the reason his back is because he’s cheap, Arsenal are being labled as the club who shops at Tesco While others shop at Mark’s. you only get what you pay for, if we want victory the deadwood needs to be moved out. With a good eye and swift moves we could so easily get the team to the standard we need to be successfull. In my eyes we start with the deadwood which in all honesty is Hill Wood, and let the rest take its course

  • Ben says:

Why don’t all you Wenger haters go and support Manure, Chavsky after all they win lots of trophies. The truth is i love the arsenal way. We are not in debt higher than our eyeball,(manu) and we don’t get our money from some Russian mafiosi. The club is admired around the world because of our style of football. Enjoy it while it lasts.

    • Steve Palmer says:

Ben, dont you want to support a team that wins things, or are you just happy to sit and watch the team you have supported all your life, get beaten by teams that shouldnt be in the same league as us. You say were admired across the world, for what, loseing year after year, for being good losers, Well you may be happy, but any supporter should expect his team to improve and should strive for success its not wrong to want your team to be at the top, Being solvent and haveing money in the bank is all well and good, but when the management are quite happy with second place, theres somthing wrong. Their happy because mugs like us will pay the hike up in fees and will fill the stadium up week after week, while they pocket the money, and eventually leave and live a very comfortable lifestyle, while some one else tries to get us back on track. We all support in different ways, if your happy carry on paying your money, only dont moan as they slip down and eventually end up rich, but playing a league lower.

  • joe says:

Forget about the profit making, no new players etc ect

Arsenal are BORING to watch, fell asleep watching Blackburn game. Seriously, probably the most boring team to watch in the league, coupled with shit defending and no desire.

Something is rotting in this current crop, and wengers to blame

    • joe says:

Forget about the profit making, no new players, no new trophies etc ect

  • Chris OK says:

It is obvious that this so called chairman fails to realise that the fans of a club is a very vital or import part of the club. You cannot just come out to say anything you like when the club has not been delivering anything for years now. It might not be a surprise if PHW is not a supporter of arsenal, he might just be there simply for the money. His statement can cause a lot of damage to this club, because every fan has the right to say what they feel is wrong with the club, so you do not label any one as silly because they came out to air their view. It is time to wake up, young players needs very experienced player to leasd them on the pitch of play……

  • stevus says:

When we finished 2nd in 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 despite having Bergkamp, Vieira, etc. very few fans complained because the team was both competitive, experienced and entertaining. Surely breaking up that side and making £3m from every game at the Wengerbowl was designed to improve on past performance? I don’t mind success lining the pockets of our directors, but not apathy and intransigence. This summer, the fans must see a serious statement of footballing intent from the club as it currently feels very stale and flat.

  • Goonerpower says:

Can’t wait for Peter Hill Wood to leave, what a tosser he is!!

  • tadho says:

AW and PHW,are not helping matters.they knw what we want.pls we need trophies not silly word from their mouth.up gunners.

  • Bob says:

i wonder where most gooners have been educated.

first of all the word ‘fickle’ has no relevance to the complaints being made by the fans at the moment. its to do with the same mistakes being made time and time again.

second of all, how can fickle relate to 6 seasons of no trophy’s? seriously the mind boggles.

    fed up yes, fickle no.

finally this is a democracy and while the ‘in wenger we trust’ brigade can have their say so can the fans that frankly dont wear rose tinted spectacles.

the board have helped create the 6 season cycle anyway with zero pressure on wenger … what do you expect from Hill Wood?

frankly im appalled they treat the club like a military dictatorship and like wenger ignore everyone else apart from their own opinions.

its not just the fans who are fed up, its ex players and journalists (the good ones!) …

  • Prof says:

Anybody who labels fans opinion ’silly’ is not deserving of playing a significant role in the management of AFC. without the support of fans, you could n’t be where you are now.
It’s paramount the opinion of fans is taking into account in football management.

On current evidence, AFC problems is not just AW. Put DD in the board room, and I’m sure the ’situation’ will take a different perspective; a welcoming one.

  • john says:

Well Mr phw this silly #$%* is not paying 50 quid of his hard earned money again until we buy a new keeper and centre back or a new manager it does not matter what order

  • Buzz3210(Gooner4Life) says:

Well guys i do not believe that our fans are the most fickle the press are doing a good job in winding up a lot of them with the same old taunts of “pretty football, don’t like it up em,need 3 playes ETC. If this crux of this team can be here next season i finally believe we will win something who cares about the seventh season label that gonna be spewed out every week by any pundit with half a brain. We should be showing undivded loyalty we are football fans if we want the glory go support chavs Citeh or the free spending spuds who will be lucky get anywhere near Europe next season. WE ARE ARSENAL SUPPORT YOUR TEAM.

  • GoonerDave says:

PHWs comments were very thoughtless, thats for sure. Insulting to the fans would be an understatement!
But has anyone wondered why he and the board back Wenger 100%? A lot of us are puzzled as to why AW seems to have such a safe job, yet has delivered nothing in recent times. The answer is simple – we have no money. The stadium hit us a lot harder than some fans realise, we sold big players just to balance the books.
The spin we are fed about Wenger having 50M to spend etc. is simply to discourage derisory bids for our players, and to ensure we keep buying tickets.
Its not rocket science – the money for the stadium had to come from somewhere, and for all our faults on the pitch, we have managed our finances really well.
The board arent all stupid, so why do they keep backing Wenger? Because Wenger has kept us in touching distance while these financial restrictions are in place.
AW knows our keeper isnt good enough. He knows we need experience. We all know that, so how could he not?
He has carried the can for too long, and its time the board admitted the truth – we were broke! If this truth does come out, and I believe it will, a lot of our fans are going to have to eat some humble pie.
But maybe the chairman should either do a PR course, or keep his mouth shut!

I know for sure we are the most moaning fans, if we dont moan at the team or the board or the manager we….er moan at other fans.

    • Chris says:

      Yes.

Fans going at each other, asking each other to go and support different teams.

But fortunately, according to some, everything is rosy at Arsenal, isn’t it?

      • toni says:

very rosy indeed. even our dear chairman happens to have his own emotions under control. pot calling kettle black. am sure he would have done worse as an ordinary fan. how on earth can one explain such a comment from the chairman. so fans are now silly people. news flash….. even in our homes am sure we have different views in a subject despite being members of same family, let alone a big football club like arsenal. what did he expect? a resounding applaud for arsene in these difficult times? he and his crew are supposed to expect exactly what is going on now and there part is to handle it professional and not throw abuses back at fans.

  • nicky says:

I may be wrong but surely no shareholder and/or member of the Board of a football club is there for the money. Just the opposite, unless he or she sells shares. Do Arsenal pay an annual dividend? Shareholders obviously want the club to prosper and be run efficiently but doesn’t it stop there? I repeat, apart from shares held, there is nothing in it for Board members. Or am I wrong?

  • PaulK says:

Whether you support AW & PHW depends greatly on if we think we’re on the right path. I think we are.

We have a young team (avg age of 24).

We have a v good youth academy and many good players out on loan a la Jack Wilshere.

We’ve been unlucky in all 3 games we were knocked out of competitions in. Against Man U in FA Cup we had the run of play and more chances, and the same was true against Blackburn in the Carling Cup. Against Barcelona in the first game we played great, deliberately counter attacking aggressively and quickly which eventually led to us rightfully winning. There are not many teams who can get that close to knocking Barcelona out of the Champions League.

We are still in the hunt for the Premier League title. If we win the rest of our games we’ll finish 1 point behind Man U, presuming they win all theirs with the exception of us besting them at the Emirates. Man U is in the Champions League and FA Cup, so they’re likely to get tired and their focus is more dispersed.

The moaning fans always point to the lack of trophies for the past 5 years. We’ve been unlucky in a few cases to not win the League or the Carling Cup this season. But Wenger should be judged for the duration of his being at Arsensal, in which case Arsenal is more successful than any other team except Man U.

Wenger is factually the most successful manager Arsenal hs ever had.

Most teams never win anything ever.

Wenger’s spending over the past 5 years has been restricted due to the stadium. As PHW said, under the circumstances no one could do better.

I agree with PHW that the moaning supporters asking for Wenger to leave is dangerous. If he left he’d be snapped up immediately for a huge salary.

Yes, some of the players aren’t top flight eg. Almunia, Denilson,… But I have confidence Wenger will deal with it in the off season. He’s doing what he can with what we’ve got. Almost every player has been criticized by the moaning supporters, requesting that we let them go at some time. That is very damaging for the players to read these things.

In summary the supporters need to support more, we’re going to win the Premier League, Wenger is a genius, the future is looking up.

    • Hunter says:

We were not unlucky against Barca, we were played off the park. Good teams create their own luck. Do you see United wilting when the pressure is on? Do you hear SAF making excuses about the international break being why the team played like crap?

If Wenger was a genius we would not have started the season with Almunia still starting in goal, no replacement for Song, Denilson still in our squad, etc. Things easily fixable without spending much money be he refuses. That does not equal genius.

PHW when was the last time u ever went on the field to watch the gonners play, all u care is big profit for u to put in ur silly mouth and make stupid noise and label us who paid our high money silly.u are one of the crazy chairman who care for cash to entered ur belly.let ur child go to school and failed 4 six years in a class and continue to praise him/her.our money u guys are stuffing will one day run ur stomach.

  • Dimples says:

Hill-wood is regarding anti Wenger fans as silly for what?
Is it for not understanding that Wenger never had the finances available. Because if that’s the case then why do the board keep giving us this bull that Wenger has the money to spend if he wishes. If they don’t actually have plans to spend but then get Wenger to make other excuses for the lack of quality signings then they the board are to blame for the fans misunderstanding aren’t they.

If the anti Wenger fans are silly people who make stupid comments it’s because of the lies the board feeds them with. Instead of criticizing these fans he should educate them. If there are constraints on Wenger then tell the fans what’s really going on.
