Arsenal chairman Peter Hill Wood declared the Club is 100% behind manager Arsene Wenger after questions were asked following last week’s goalless draw against Blackburn.
Speaking to the Daily Star, the Englishman branded some of the Club’s supporters as silly people who make stupid comments as he added that some comments made can do a lot of damage since in today’s game it is impossible to achieve all set targets.
Hill-Wood said:
We are 100% behind him. That is always a dangerous statement, but I can assure you it has not crossed our minds that we wouldn’t support him 100%.
I simply cannot believe he will react to these stupid comments from these silly people. They are supposed to be supporters, but, in fact, they do quite a lot of damage.
We have set the bar high and everybody expects us to achieve that every year, but it simply isn’t possible. If you keep changing managers every nine months, you get into even more trouble.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal issued a statement following the comments by the chairman in which it is explained that the fans “are at the heart of what we are here to do and that will always be the case”:
As we all know, emotions can run high in football many times throughout a season. It’s because we all care about our club. Our fans are at the heart of what we are here to do and that will always be the case.
We have always had a uniquely strong working relationship with Arsenal Supporters’ Trust and other supporters’ groups and this is important to us.
