Nigel Winterburn, “Manchester United are the big favourites because of their consistency”

Former Arsenal full back Nigel Winterburn believes Manchester United are hot favourites to win the English Premier League title.

Speaking before yesterday’s one all draw against Liverpool at the Emirates, the Englishman explained that the Gunners need to win all their remaining games to stand a chance of ending their six-year trophyless crisis as he added that Manchester United’s consistency could help them keep the top position until the very end.

The 47-year also declared that Arsenal have to believe in themselves but that even in that case there must be a “massive collapse” from the Red Devils to see the Gunners cut the gap at the top and leapfrog Alex Ferguson’s men for the title.

On Sunday, Arsenal have yet again failed to get all three points at the Emirates stadium as they registered their seventh non-win result at home and are now six points from the top with only six games to go.

Speaking to talkSport, Winterburn said:

I would think they are going to have to win every single game until the end of the season. Even then Manchester United are the big favourites because of their consistency this season.

In these these last two or three weeks they’re starting to come into their best form so it’s a daunting task for Arsenal to overcome them.

If you’re in the situation Arsenal are in you’ve got to believe you can win the title and Arsenal will believe that but you would say Manchester United will have to have a massive collapse.

The only thing we do consistently is run out of gas this time of season. Do the players give too much early in the year and have nothing left for the end? Whatever it is, it needs to be solved

  • Gunner says:

I agree with Winterburn to an extent only, MU have been consistent at home, away they have not been that terrific and a look at their record will show that! Arsenal have had a number of opportunities to catch them but as usual they blew ‘em all???
It would be nice if Wenger left but I don’t think so, and I just don’t see him being fired either!!
This team has a self destruct button that they never fail to hit when they are asked to meet a threshold of any sort! What is worse is that they are very creative about it too! You name it they can blow it???? Asked to hold a 4 goal lead for 45 minutes????
Asked to hold out against Barcelona at 1-1 2nd half 3-2 aggregate lead! What did they do, RVP figures out how to get himself sent off ????
Asked to hold out yesterday for 2 or 3 minutes after spending 98 minutes trying to get a lead, what did they do???? Concede the stupidest penalty of all time???
It reminds me of a CL tie at Anfield a few years back who can forget Walcott running the length of the field sliding an easy tap in cross for Ade and Arsenal are heading to the Quarters!!!!! Well not 1 minute later. Do we all remember the whole Arsenal left side just switching off, and then Toure swiinging off Babels shirt in the penalty area??? Oh is that a penalty????? Yeah!!! it is!!!
    Arsenal out of CL.
Wenger complains about too much time, bad decision etc?? What will it be next March?????

It was not a penalty my friend,Eboue almost didn’t touch him..

      • Uz says:

But he did my friend.Inside the 18,you need to be extremely careful and bearing in mind that in a few seconds it’ll be over,Eboue should have steered clear of Lucas. It was a penalty.

This has nothing to do with anything but, do you think Aaron Ramsey will be extra motivated watching his Wales teammate get the PFA, and his Arsenal teamate get the Young PFA? Hopefully he comes back rested and ready to become a regular next year
