Alexander Hleb: I love Arsenal, I would go back if I could

Written by Jeffrey on April 19, 2011 – 13:35

Arsenal Interactive - Player RatingsAlexander Hleb and Cesc Fabregas

Yet again, former Arsenal midfielder Alexander Hleb admitted he would love to make a comeback as Birmingham’s style doesn’t suit his style.

After joining the Gunners from Stuttgart during the 2005 summer transfer window, the Belarus International left three years later to join Barcelona but failed to make an impact in Spain and after a season-long loan deal with the Germans he returned to the English Premier League – always on loan – after he agreed to join Birmingham City.

But, the 29-year old explained that he still loves his old Club and although it is too early to speculate on his future he added that everything is possible and if offered a new deal he will accept straight away.

In three years at the Club, Hleb played more than 89 games for the Gunners and can play in midfield behind the strikers or if required on the wing.

On a possible Arsenal return, he said:

I want to give my best for Birmingham but if I have chance to go back to Arsenal, of course I would. I am happy and enjoy my time here, everything is good but this is a little bit not my style of football.

Of course, I love Arsenal. It is always in my heart but now is too early to speak about a new club. Everything is possible but I am just saying if I get this chance, of course I’d come.

I have enjoyed it here in a way because it is something new. But here you need to just fight and run, not too much passing. This is a different experience and I prefer to play and to enjoy football.

No thanks Alexander…you’re 29, you went off for fame and fortune and ended up at Birmingham…great career move even with that Carling Cup medal . We have two undersized ,underachieving and overpaid players already – Rosicky and Walcott – and Fabregas seems on the gentle slide. Perhaps he may go to Barca, we trouser 40million and his career dips….perhaps not , we’ll be lucky to get 20mill for him on his current playing and injury form…so sorry Hleb no chance….

    • bergie2016 says:

we realy need another clown who runs around in circles with no end product . he didnt love us to much when he left

    • Monk14 says:

Are you out of your mind? Rosicky yes but Walcott? His season may have been hampered by injuries but he has greatly improved his play. Everytime he attacks up the right wing, we always threaten our opponents defence. He’s just unlucky with injuries.

  • buck says:

i would welcome him back every body deserve a second chance in life people make mistake and it would be same if nasri leaves

    • Uz says:

correct Buck.my only problem with him is his age. He,fabrigas and Flamini formed a great partenership. Its a shame the other two had to leave.its a shame the manager was quick to let them go.This man sells players and never brings in useful replacement.
Im glad the fans are finally realising that the problem of this club has always been and if care is not taken, will always be AW.
It beats me why a manager, admist all this criticisims, disappointments and failure to win trophies would still chose to stay put.

      • Hunter says:

You guys need to stop drinking the Arsene kool-aid as far as ages go. The fact that we sold off all our older players is precisely why we can’t close down a game or come through when our backs are against the wall.

        • amused says:

I would take him back. No one passes like him (yes no one, nasri comes close but not fabregas, wilshere). He picks out impossible disguised passes. I recall his pass to adebayor for the late winner against Man U a few years back. Love the way he cuts inside -> could give eboue/sagna more space to roam on the flanks.

  • frenchie says:

just what we need: another player with no end product.

  • Gooner says:

Not so soon Hleb.. bulk up a bit and learn to shoot, then who knows what it could be….

  • jim says:

A shot shy tosser. He would fit in perfectly with this team

  • Bob the Gunner says:

It’s over Alex, move on !!!

    • A.M says:

Its becoming more of a tale between 2 former lovers isnt it? haha its hillarious

  • Zion says:

I loved the way you used to play while at Arsenal and greatly miss u. How I wish u rejoined us.

    • katiz2010 says:

u r right ZION. Hleb wz a great player. Let us welcm bk ths prodigal son. He hz the experience, the skill – pure genius. I’d rather we hd players who were 100p.c committed like Hleb. He jst made a bad decision & should not be crucified for it. Let us swallow our pride & take on ths little maestro!

  • Louis says:

I w’d luv u back but da all shit nw depends on AW. Gud luck.

  • mohammad umair says:

Although arsenal fans are hurt by ur betrayal of their trust i guess none of them cud argue with ur skills.U probably are one of the best with ball possession.

  • John says:

Walcott is a disgrace, diaby , denilsen, bentner, clichy almunia, and more all rubbish when will u stupid arsenal fans wake up!!! Wenger out! Wake up! does it have to be 10 years before u do!

  • Ray says:

Although I won’t want Hleb back, but I will like to thank him for his previous contribution and also saying what he had just said to tell the rest who thought the grass is greener on the other side and having the thought of leaving. However, I wonder why players like Almunia, Eboue, Denilson, Diably, Rosicky and Squilacci haven’t have the thought of leaving yet.

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

I’ll bet Hleb kissed the badge on the Arsenal shirt as he went out the door, thinking of the big bucks Barca were going to give him. Yes, the grass is greener on the other side. You went, nobody pushed you so stay away – we want players who are loyal (except Diaby, Denilson, Squillaci, Kos, Bentdner) some disloyalty from these would be good.

  • Alieu says:

Sorry big man we are going for Eden Hazard not u anymore xxxxx

  • soushio says:

“I love Arsenal”…as much as you did when you left?
