Arsene Wenger on why supporters “can be very proud of their team”

The fantastic mentality of the Arsenal players since the start of the season is the main reason why supporters should be very proud of their team, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

Asked why the fans feel let down after a disappointing March, the Frenchman replied by saying that the huge hope was created because the team was still competing in all competitions and how that shows that there is the right fighting spirit in the side.

On what the Gunners achieved this season, the Arsenal boss declared that nobody expected Arsenal to be where they are today and how therefore their position shows that they did fight “beyond expectation from everybody”.

Wenger concluded by asking the fans to be behind their team until the very last second of the Premier League as that is what the players need to go on and win all five remaining games and hopefully be crowned Champions at the end of the season.

On Friday, Wenger said:

The Arsenal supporters can be very proud of their team because of the experience I have, this team has absolutely turned up with a fantastic mentality since the start of the season.

We created a huge hope because we were fighting on all fronts so the first quality the Club wants to have is a fighting spirit.

Secondly that we did fight beyond expectation from everybody. If I listen to the expectation at the start of the season nobody expected us to be where we are.

I would like sometimes, you, as well to acknowledge that and thirdly, what I would like from our fans is to be behind the team until the last day, the last minute, of the season.

I never expected us to be lying in 3rd when we should be topping the table by a mile, considering the poor season that chel & manu have had. Instead AW & his team have managed to mess that up so my question is how can we compete with these 2 teams when they are at their best?

    • Davi says:

I agree, but united haven’t really been punished for their poor performances. Partly this is down to the strength of their side, but also the referees, who have been insanely kind to them overall this season, whereas we have rarely got the rub of the green. Sure some things go for us, but far more things go against us.

Through 6 years of lies, stubborness and arrogance, you have lost the trust of the fans. The team is young and talented. They are in desparate need of a couple of experienced star players to help them win honours. Yet, you’ve refused to act, year after year. You have already lost our captain. You are now losing the team that you have developed. Our top players are sitting on the contracts and possibly finding the way out. The players crave honours. The fans want trophies. These are secondary to your Gallic pride in a project that has no hope of success.

So you’ve lost the fans and you’re losing the team. What’s more there for you to win? To be sure, you are wining the board who is happy with your money making, and the dwindling AKB who eat whatever you feed from your hands.

This people they are stupid, they can’t evin understanding what Arsene said,
the begining of season most of u u don’t except to do or where we are, because he did’t sign keeper, midfield, and so on, let me ask u, chezza is not best player then thoose u was thinking to bring in? Jack is not best player then the one u want Arsene to buy? and how it will affect chezza and jack if Arsene leasen u and buy some to there place? Last season u say we sold our fourth place to m.city and this season u say we will be out from top 4, but we fight in all competetion till march the time game days get firster and shorter and we have afew injuries but stil till now we are going to shift the EPL tophy in may believe me or not that ur own choice, I can’t see m u or chelsea to have best chance then us. looking guys: don’t fool ur self, come down and suport mr Arsene we will see 3 or 4 players from our youth same like chezza and jack in coming season plus 1 or 2 out side the club. We are proude because we are Arsenal and we have Arsene, thanks to GOD (ALLAH) for give Arsenal Arsene.

    • Dave says:

I can’t understand what on Earth you’re talking about.

  • tedy says:

i think salim should spend more time in the mosque and little or no time at all on football issues…i cant imagine a lunatic saying u dont expect arsenal competing for glories…it’s hearth breaking when our bastard manager speaks like that a senile fan like salim buttressing that….wenger should go or make significant changes now..else the money will stop flowing in coz fans will start boycotting and renewing season tickects

  • jason says:

This is what will happen next season we wont get a keeper cause he will say Szczesny is ready for the first team, we wont get a centre back cause he will say vermaelen is back and ready, he wont get a midfield player cause players like Flimpong and Ramsey are coming back and he may get a striker but only if he feels RVP cant do it on his own.

    • tommy says:

Spot on. And with Pool hammering Bham 5-0 today, unless Wenger signs 3-4 experienced quality players I see Liverpool, Chelsea, MU, and City finishing above us next season. Maybe Wenger will wake up when Arsenal are in Europa League?

  • Mahmud 9999 says:

How can any fan be proud ?Leads have been squandered dating back to the last five years.

The same thing has been happening with alarming regularity this season.Until the gunners

can maintain a lead and win no fan will be proud.

    • Paddywhack says:

yes, people think thatn its only this season they’ve squandered a lead. remember last seaso leading 2-0 against wigan in 81st minute full time wigan 3 arsenal 2 what did aw learn from that – zilch

  • Salim says:

I have questions to tedy and his follower,
who was give Arsenal a chance this season? (a part of royal arsenal fans)
who u wanna blem at the l.pool game after normal 8add menute? Who u wanna blem on sunderland game for disallow Ashavin goal? What u wanna tell us at newcastle game?
Be cleaver, and understanding the situation if we fail to lift tophy this year it only FA to blem, they fail and fail and fail to have hornest officials, my view is FA are to blem fo unhornest to us. Arsene he did his part and we see the fruit of his job on the field same on players.
Also we must know there is 4 players who late us down several times but we need to suport our players and Arsene at this dificult time, (win 5games and tophy on the table) come on guys my son is my son and my father is my father I will give them my suport at all time,

    • Uz says:

go back to school mate. Its hard to comprehend your posts

  • sedo says:

The expectations of the season were clear: “The players say: ‘okay, we want to win a trophy to show you we can win one’.” – and these are not my words.
Dixon said, that Wenger must change philosophy, and I absolutely agree with him, because what Wenger think, how to win a bloody trophy, simple does not work. Build a young team is ok, but try to let play them a barcelona.style football, if we consider the names like Schilacci, Denilson and Almunia it is a joke. So courageous footall is symphatic, but the fact that for Arsenal is not enough to lead a game with two goals is not easy to accept There is no balance in this team. Experiance is missing, and the defence is gruesome. Force french players like Schilacci is also something must change. So we can be proude of course – if we can forget the new castle game, or the wigan match and both of the tottenham games, but can we?

  • Gooner ted says:

Utd’s line up today included O’Shea at LB!! Evans Gibson and Anderson. This is the worst Utd team in living memory yet they will win the title. We have nothing to be proud of 1 win in 6 when the title was there for the winning.Proud of a team of bottling pussies who might not even finish 2nd.At least Wenger and Kroenke will be happy we will finish top 4.All that lovely CL money we wont fucking spend

  • tommy says:

We all know what’s going to happen right? Man U won today, Chelsea will win too, and we will draw or lose at Bolton, and the time the of the MU game at Emirates the title will have been decided and the game will be irrelevant–and then we will win that one, (because Man U won’tbe trying) and then Wenger will say it is proof of the teams mental strength.

Kroenke needs to FORCE Wenger to address the weaknesses in defence and goal

    • Uz says:

we’ ve already lost to bolton.
