Ray Parlour: Buy three including Gary Cahill and sell Denilson and Bendtner

Written by Jeffrey on April 26, 2011 – 4:45

Arsenal Interactive - Player RatingsRay Parlour

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour believes the Gunners have to sign three players if they are to be competitive next season.

Another trophyless season will soon end after the 2-1 defeat against Bolton away from home with the Englishman believing that this summer’s transfer window is crucial adding that three players should be signed and the likes of Denilson and Nicklas Bendtner sold.

Asked who the Gunners should sign, the 38-year old was again full of praise for Bolton’s Gary Cahill as he explained that he can become the new “Tony Adams” at the heart of the Arsenal defence.

And on whether Arsene Wenger should be sacked or not, Parlour concluded by saying that he is one of the Frenchman’s biggest fans and that sacking him is not the answer although it is important to bring new players during the summer transfer window.

On next season, Parlour told Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast:

This summer is vital. I think he will buy three players and he will let a few go – people on the fringes, maybe the likes of Denilson and Bendtner.

I’d buy Cahill straight away and try to mould him into Tony Adams. If Arsenal had a Tony Adams at the back now they’d win the league – no doubt about that.

They’ve been very close but they need two stoppers, players who aren’t going to concede goals. We all know they’re great going forward and will score goals.

I’m the biggest Wenger fan so I don’t agree with people saying getting rid of him. But now he needs a couple of big signings in the summer. If he makes those key signings Arsenal will be in with a chance again next season.

  • Jim Rome says:

Why on earth would Wenger buy a goalkeeper? I’d ask if you saw Arsenal play this season, but the other things you said are at least reasonable. Goalkeeper? You’re totally misinformed…

    • ebonics says:

you’re joking, right? I’m gonna assume that was sarcasm.

      • Jim Rome says:

So I guess City should replace Joe Hart because he’s so young and inexperienced? You can’t possibly be this stupid, can you???

        • Arsenal Future Manager says:

I just have to say you are a DON for that reply looool but

Theres no need for a complete clearout all we need is:
CB: Gary Cahill or Mertseaker or Sakho
          LB: Jan Vertonghen
          RB: Gregory Van Der Wiel

          ————- Szczesny
          Sagna (Cahill) Vermaelen (Vertonghen)
          ———– Song – Wilshere
          Walcot — Fabregas — Nasri
          —————- RVP

or maybe if we get (Diego Milito)

          ————- Szczesny
          Sagna (Cahill) Vermaelen (Vertonghen)
          ————— Song
          Walcot —————- Nasri
          ———— Fabregas
          ———- RVP – D.Milito

Cahill: is a strong leader in the back along with Vermaelen,
Vertonghen: Strong CB, LB n DM he can push Clichy out and also provide cover for DM n CB,
Van der wiel: Compete with Sagna
          Milito: Fox in the Box

        • Tim says:

@Jim Rome: What happens if Szczesny gets injured? What? Rely on Almunia or Fabianski to be the 1st choice goalkeeper. If so, expect to see them to flaps in set-pieces and concede just as much as we did in previous seasons. You can’t possibly be this stupid, can you???

    • Dave says:

Szczesny has the potential to be a world class keeper but he’s still learning his trade. I’m good with him as a 2nd choice keeper, as he still gets to play in domestic cups and when the 1st choice keeper gets rested like on the match before the CL game. If Wenger doesn’t bring in a quality GK next season and Szczesny goes down injured it will either be Fabianski and Almunia to replace him and neither shown that they are good enough to be first choice keeper.

      • Aubrey says:

I personally believe Fabianski has shown enough this to show that he has the mentality. To fight for the number 1 spot. Either one of Fab and Shez would flourish with the competition the other provides. We do not need a goalkeeper

        • Dave says:

I have disagree just because he played a handful of decent games doesn’t mean he’s suddenly a good keeper. He still flaps in set-pieces like he did in the Newcastle game and he could easily go back to his error-prone ways next season. He’s 26 now so that he’s a young, won’t be an excuse anymore. I’m okay for him to be the 3rd choice keeper. Bringing in a new keeper means we can finally say goodbye to Almunia.

          • Jim Rome says:

Glad you’re not in charge. Fabianski looked great before his injury, Szczesny was even better, and Vito Mannone may be better than both.’

Again, how did the Joe Hart experiment work last year? Or would they have been better off buying Mark Schawarzer? Hell, Shay Given can’t even get in the team. Again, glad the team doesn’t turn to you for advice…

            • Dave says:

Well, glad you’re not in charge as well. As you’re probably going to stick with error-prone players that doesn’t help the team… oh wait, that exactly what Wenger does.

Given can’t get into the team but Mancini keeps sticking with Hart, does that mean the Irishman is a crap keeper? You’re deluded if you think the likes Hart, Schwarzer and Given is not better than Fabianski. I suppose if he flaps like he did in the Newcastle game a bit more and does his usual errors (i.e. charging off the line like manic, weak attempt are parrying the ball and laughable ways he deals with set-pieces) maybe you would see it. Fabianski played a few decent and suddenly every errors he made is suddenly forgotten. Some Arsenal fans have bad memory, I suppose.

            • arsene knew says:

shez is a fantastic goalie but his inexperience at the lane cost us the game, he is far from good enough for us to win the league or the CL, look at neur last night totally different class im afraid (as was van de sar), he is our future but not good enough for our present im afraid (i was at the lane), flappy you have to be joking, he is a joke and worse he is nowhere near big or tall enough (shez is), he is a midget goalie like our 3 midget centre halves vermailen included, we need at least 2 sol like tall, big & strong centre halves to stop the set pieces and to actually score them as well, the bolton stats were bolton 2 corners = 2 goals, afc 7 corners = 0 goals and 0 attempts at goal, our set pieces are beyond pathetic, our free kicks are rubbish and our corners laughable, they either dont get past the first man or they are caught by their goalie with nobody near it… our full backs cant cross, we have not one proper wide player who can cross or get to the bye line, not one proper goalscoring fast forward (walcott maybe but he never gets played there, the sperz goal was a proper forward goal)…. the midfield however is full of ball players so we dont need any more of them!

              so thats

              one proper goalie
              one defensive coach
two big tall strong sol type centre backs
one coach to teach the full backs how to cross & defend
two wide players who like playing there and can cross & score
two proper goalscoring forwards (one if theo plays there)

get rid of the dross & the loanees to pay for it & spend the 40m sitting in the account

            • Tim says:

I guess people just have terrible memories or in denial if they think Fabianski is a quality keeper all the sudden. Maybe Wenger should take my advice and others here on which goalkeeper he should bring in the summer because Wenger hasn’t got a good record in buying keepers. Szczesny is still in the air whether he’s turn out to be the world class keeper we badly needed after Seaman left. Lehnman was arguably be the best keeper Wenger brought in but he has his problems but nowhere near as bad as Almunia or Fabianski. And you’re having a laugh if you think Mannone is better than Sczcesny. I would like to bring in either Neuer or Stekelenburg in the summer.

        • fanzone says:

personally,i feel more confidence with fab than szes at the goal.fab has shown a lot of improvement n i feel wenger will use him as da no.1…

          • Jim Rome says:

            Are you stupid?

  • Tiger_Shree says:

    Tommy,

56% of Arsenal goals conceded this season come from set pieces!!!!
How many Corners and Free Kicks have we converted in to Goals?
Arsenal has just to defend Corners and Free Kicks better and improve dramatically our Corners and Free Kicks in to Goals.

  • yeancah. NIG says:

How I wish dis stuborn manager of arsenal will read and take heed. But he won’t read and even if he does he won’t see it as anytin meaniful. The fact as been dat. Wenger as failed 2 rehalise dat some players are not just gud enough. Eg diaby, denilson, eboue, charmach, almunia.Tactically wenger as bin getin it wrong I can’t imagine in a game u nid 2 win, he brings in berdner in place of walcolt on d flaks 2 dilever crosses 4 RVP. Dat will neva work. Tommy smith said is there anybody in dat squared dat oppositions sees as untouchable. Ans NO. We need monsters in dis team. I b’lif wit a vidic n van d sar at d back 4 arsenal won’t still work. Will leave our defender 2 uncovered 4 opponent 2 exploit.

    • Jim says:

learn how to spell mate…. “dat”, “neva” and “gud” are not words. plank

  • am says:

Vermealen is also slow, this would mean the defence would have to play deep.

    • Hunter says:

My goodness you guys are daft. When we had Amams and Keown neither of them were extremely quick but intelligent and positioning was exemplary. It seems too many don’t understand that as long as the central defenders are smart and positioned well they don’t need to be extremely quick. Your outside backs however do need to be and that is good enough.

  • Dave says:

Amen. Ray why don’t you be the assistant manager as there’s too many “yes men” that hang around Wenger and thinks everything he does is right. Still, I don’t think Wenger will improve our defense, seeing as this is a most stubborn man in football you’re talking about.

  • Musha says:

Someone still has to explain to me how we pour forward like we do and not shift goals even with Vidic and Cahill back there, not to mention not practicing defending set pieces. How much of the problem is personnel and how much is tactical (or a team mentality issue which one new centerback will not make up for).

    • jason says:

How is it that you can read thousands of different posts, wanting this, that or whatever?
You are right. You could put any 2 from Cahill/Samba/Mertesacker/Vidic/Luise/Dawson or why not go crazy and have a partnership of Baresi and Costacurta,(from 1992/4 of course)..and then stick Reina behind them?
The problem is much, much more than personnel…..it’s all about the tactics. How can you have every attack where your forwards, midfielders, including your D/M, and sometimes 2 of your defenders are all pushed forward in your opponents half, leaving you prone to counter attacks of 4 v 3 on regular occasions?
There is no doubt we could do with more nouse, organisation and strength at the back to allow us to defend better from set pieces and prevent all those howlers from dead ball positions.
As for 4/3/3…..well of course it works…if you have the work rate of Barcelona. I don’t understand why we can’t try to press all over the pitch like they do if we are going to play that formation?
As for the personnel all over the pitch:
How many teams have had to use 4 goalkeepers in one season and still been successful? not many, though Chesney looks fantastic.
A left back who is more and more prone to losing the ball or not winning it and then being caught way out of position?
Our Best C/B who has been out since the 2nd week of the season.
A mixture of defensive C/M’s who are either inconsistent or injured or both and offer no protection to the defence.
      And going forward……pass,pass,pass,pass,shoo…..pass,pass,pass,lose the ball…!!!
We only look really dangerous on the break, play too narrow and have become offensively predictable. We can’t cross or take effective corners on a regular basis either.

Maybe the time has come for Cesc to move on and if we must play the same formation, start pressing more all over the pitch. Also, when is Wenger going to play Theo up front?
With Walcott on the shoulder of the C/B’s and RVP dropping back into the hole, maybe we would be more clinical?

Finally, If Pat Rice is to go, Then, a new Right hand man, a new GK coach like Seaman and a defensive coach like Bould,Keown,Adams. A Midfield coach like Vieira. And someone to teach this lot how to put the ball in the net like Henry or Wrighty.
And Bring DD back into the Boardroom…!!

      Roll on United on Saturday…!!
      Favoured side:

      Szczesny

      Sagna
      Vermaelen
      Djourou (or new C/B)
      Gibbs (or new L/B)

      Song
      Wilshire

      Nasri
      RVP
      New Winger

      Walcott

      Subs from: Fabianski,Mannone,Poss Gibbs,Eboue,Poss Djourou,Koscielny,Bartley,Ramsey,Frimpong,Lansbury,
      Poss Diaby,Coquelin,Chamakh,Vela,Miyaichi,JET,Poss new Striker.

      • Steve of Chiang Mai says:

An even bigger question is how we can push so many forward and still come up with no one in the box……the amount of times that Arsenal crosses found the back post only for no one to be there is ludicrous. Its so much more difficult to counter attack from a kick off after the goal is scored!

  • Alex B says:

I agree with Ray about Cahill, I think he’d be great at the back for us. He’s going to be over priced though, and that never bodes well for us signing players. If Wenger’s economic policies come into effect, I’d good with Mertesacker or Vertonghen as a subsitute for Gary. Outside possibilities of Adil Rami, or Taiwo.

I think we need to sell the little Russian Arsh and replace him with Eden Hazard.

Denilson’s been a liability. Sell him. Tough task to find the proper replacement for him, but it might be our very Frimpong, though I’d like to see one the midfielders who really get in the engine room and effectively get all over the pitch. Who fit’s the bill? I can think of a couple from Ligue 1, stephane m’bia and moussa sissoko.

    • cheese says:

      LUCAS?

    • Hunter says:

Taiwo is on a free at the end of the season and I really wish we would get him. He is a big, strong quick character and has won the league twice with Marseille.

  • TROY says:

I agree with you, infact i’ll be over the moon if A.W can get inler and cahill i also think getting Eden plus world class striker.I heard about the Benzema rumor, but I don’t think it will happen…. he’s been in an excellent run of form with Madrid and I don’t think Mourinho will sell him.

  • SeattleGooner says:

Really hoping to get steve bould up to coach after pat rice leaves or maybe just bring Tony Adams himself, though I doubt he wants to give up managing. But who knows?

As for players, Cahill is a must to me, as well as a great goal Scorer up front. If I had to choose one, I’d pick Edinson Cavani of Napoli, who has torn the Serie A apart this year and would fit the mold perfectly.

  • Vicky says:

There are so many who could be sold from this squad.

Strikers – Bendtner, Vela(he is on loan though), move back to 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 and do away with this nonsensical 4-3-3 which is not working at all. Buy one out and out poaching striker in class of Bent.

Midfield- Rosicky, Denilson, Diaby, Song (he has gone backwards after good progress last year). Get Hleb from Birmingham, one high quality DM

Defence – Where to start? Sell Squeaky, Eboue, Clichy, get two CBs Samba and Mertasacker / Cahil. Move TV to left back and keep Kosc as back up to the two CBs.

Manager – Wenger should be told in no uncertain terms that he has to focus on results and not on his youth policy.

Wage Structure – if you pay likes of Denilson, Diaby, Bendtner in region of 45-60k per week and then claim you cannot compete with others then your wage structure is awful. These jokers are not worthy of 10-15k leave alone 45k upwards.

Imagine why would mediocre players leave Arsenal when they get such heavy wages and also no demand on performances.

This talk of coming in top 4 has made this team that of also rans. It reflects in their mentality on the pitch.

    • brian says:

vermaelen to left back? are u having a laugh
sign hleb? are u having a laugh

      • Hunter says:

Vermaelen actually is a left back first and central defender second. If you ever watched him at Ajax you would know this.

        • Gaz says:

He played the odd game at LB but was predominantly a CB

  • goonergerry says:

Arsenal can prove something to themselves and everyone else by turning Man U over next week by stopping feeling sorry for themselves and worrying about mistakes and just get after United.
Rekindle the spirit of the Barcelona home game. They have it in them- and they need to prove it- every one of them.
Lets wait till the end of the season before dreaming of new players. Arsene Wenger should not be forced to sell players because some fans think they are crap-what do we know about the injuries they have been carrying?
When it comes to making big money buys seeing will be believing when it comes to Wenger- he has no record of making big money buys at all- those have come closest (Arshavin, Reyes) have not exactly been successful.

  • Brendan Maxi says:

Why are you mates not mentioning your free acquired chamakh, the so called stiker who cant run, dribble past defenders, shoot at a goal, yet he’s a striker? No ways!! Nicky B is better than chamakh only his laziness lets him down. I would rather sell rosicky chamakh, sq18, denilson, almunia, fabianski, bring in eden, inler, ryo miyaichi, cahil/vertongen/per, maarten/neuer.

    • SeattleGooner says:

You bring up a good poInt. Chamakh has pretty much been a waste of space since december

  • Arnold says:

I know that Wenger is too stubborn to listen to advice.I agree with the thought of getting a better assistant but honestly we need to buy defenders first and then get an assistant thats defensive minded.I suggest he seriously looks at Christian Zapata,Per Mertesacker and Sakho as our options. You will agree with me that our problem has not been going forward but rather defending.Doesnt it suprise you how much wealth of attacking talent we have raised throug our youth and reserves but hardly any defensive talent. We seriously need to buy defenders right from a very early age.Wenger needs to “snap” them early as he does other areas.
I tell you if i were to have my choice the following would go:Bendtner,Diaby,Almunia,Denilson,Squillaci.
All in all a change of guard would be the best way for this club…..wait a minute lemme explain.
Mr Wenger has never changed from his philosophy of bringing in new talent but what irks many supporters is his aversion to buying already proven and experienced players.
I think we should hire Frank Rijkaard who not only knows about youth and also buys big.
I wish Stan Kronke brings in much needed guidance to a boardroom that drools at Wenger and his “philosophy”
All in all, we are tired of being nobodys…we have no nerves left to feel!

  • Michael Gillon says:

Bendtner and Denilson have to go. They have had their chance and not progressed. Rosicky will be a sad loss but that year out with injury took his last big year away. Was never the same on his return but now has to go.
Cahill would be a huge boost to fans and team as we know who he is and fans and pundits alike are pushing for him. Please no more foreign, cheap, unknown central defenders.
Sell Sqillachi and bring in a youth player. With Vermaelen, Cahill and Djourou as main central defenders how about playing Koscielny as defensive midfielder. I know that sounds a stretch but he has great passing ability and I have seen him run 50 yards for a 1-2. He may not be bruising enough for central defender but could surely bruise up midfield and is not like Song who thinks he is Fabregas. and is never around the back when we need him. Food for thought, please do not crucify me.
We do not need a goalkeeper we have the Chez and Fabianski is a good backup and young goalies in the wings. Chez is a monster and has done a great job at just 20. Went from no 3 to no 1. Sign an experienced goal keeper who might not be as good, what does that say to the young talent who join Arsenal because they will be given a chance.
Yes we need a striker, but didn’t we have one in Eduardo. Unless the system changes we only need a new striker for when Robin gets hurt again.
Theo is a winger (albeit a great winger) with Thierry Henry aspirations, but he is a foot shorter and pounds lighter and like David Villa should stay wide and move inside to shoot.. Must keep Arshavin despite less than his best season. I believe the system we have is 1 upfront who is rarely upfront and attacking midfielders who can score but rarely shoot. If 50% of the 1-2s inside the box where changed to shots even if less than half chances I wonder what the outcome would have been.
Now to the crux. Cesc Fabregas. Despite the injuries I cannot remember one game where he took control and played to his normal standard. I think he is fabulous but it might be time to cash in and finally lift this Barcelona curse.
Getting rid of Wenger is not the answer. Just wait and we might get Pep with Arsene moving upstairs.
Whatever happens if we go back to George Grahams 1-0 to the Arsenal then the dissidents will get what they deserve

    • George says:

      Spot on mate !

  • mandla says:

it is so sad to see such a big team like Arsenal going for 6yrs without a trophy.
beautiful foot ball but without success is like swiming in a Pond without water.
this man must be forced to spend the money on quality players.we are tired of every year its the same Execuse.Wegner must be stoped by the directors to waste money on these school kids.if he really wants to win anything he must keep Jens Leman for next season as his number 2 and Fabiasnk as the 3rd choice.get rid of all the dead wood.buy a defensive midfielder and one striker and a defender.

  • Gunner 4 life says:

Fellow gunners. What we need are Cahill, Vertoghen, Baines for Clichy, Parker, Mvilla Ilner and up front Falcao, Hulk Hazard and Benzema.

A good assistant coach ie Viera or Bergkamp and promotion to Steve Bould to defensive coach position. Wanger to go to the board of directors after the end of 2011 – 2012. Then bring the Porto manager. Young, clever, hungry for success and does not like loosing.

    • brian says:

      dream on mate

    • cheese says:

you want the coach and you dont even know is name lol

      • Axel says:

        villas boas mate

  • Kanye14 says:

3 signings will do and knowing Wenger he will prefer doing things on the cheap. So i think nzogbia would do a job on the left for us plus hez quick and a flair player, move nasri to the middle with cesc. Cahill at the back will do and a striker that scores goals falcao or gameiro. Wenger should concentrate more on defensive training and tactics.

  • Trippy says:

Cahill is a done deal – this is from a ANR and a friend of Jack Wilshere.

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

does that ManU don’t want him then

  • Daniel L. says:

If wenger continue with bringing kids, let the fans get his rid of leaving arsenal.people are now tired of what wenger is doing.we need to here the transfer bost with the big names, the like of pato, benzema, pedro, cahill, snidjer,Frank Ribery and the likes of arjen Robben should all be in the transfer list and wenger will see how arsenal are going to perfom and compete with other team.wenger doesn’t like competition b’se the moment he observe his people, when the likes of chelsea and man u has join to talk to those people for the transfer for the above mentioned by wenger, immidiatly he will be quite and leave the person what a held is that.sell charmackh,Dinelson, diaby, squilaci and bendther including vella get aliadiere jeremy back also.

  • Terry Henri says:

Is this a bad joke? Arsenal are not for real if this is the stiker they are looking to sign!

OWEN would be a better choice….

But i think that once the LEFT BACK and STRIKER positions are filled then the GUNNERS will be back to the HEADY days of old…

IN WENGER I TRUST….Do you still?

If i get to be appointed as arsenal maneger for next season and be provided with enough money i will go for everton fellain and sell diaby and denilson, then i will add expirience with the likes of schoenstiger the bayern munich middle,am telling u our problem is not deffenders or gollie, its deffensive football which is missing but these two players can attack and come to deffend when they play alongside wilshere who also can deffend our central deffenders will not have problems to deal with few attacks coz opponents will not have achance to reach our 18box,man u plus chealsea cenral deffenders get a lot of assistance from there midfield thus why they dont do silly mistakes,to me cosienly djorroue and verm are all world class they just miss assistance in deffending.for strikers sell bertiner and charmach and bring in falcao who can shoot and can head balls and he is powerfull too and bring in also a cheap dude from argentina i hope there many good strikers there who can do well in england,i dont watch there ligue but i hope they have good stikers club like liverplate and others.i know the players i have mentioned will cost a little but we will get some money from selling other players.i will spare ebue and rosicky coz they can help in carling cup during our busy fixtures. This will give chance cesc to go deep as he said it is favourite position so behind him will be wilshere and fellain on wings will be schonstiger and nasri and varnparse or falcao will be finishers.so i will go like this
    szcseny
    sagna cosienly verm clichy
    schonstiger fellain wishere nasri
    cesc
    varnparse

    sub;falcao walcot,asharvin song,gibbs frimprong djoroue ramsey,ebue argentine striker,rosicky,and fabianski.
no much changes stiger and fellain can cop with our passing game and can also add deffensive role in our game just like barca coz i dont see veeery good central deffender in barca but i just see veeeery good midfielders who can attack and deffend as a team, puyol and pique are not so good they just get required assistance from maestro xavi, iniesta, pedro and sometimes the magician messi, thus all.attack like a team and deffend like a team plus other phillosophy of passing game it termed as the best team in the world.if arsenal want to reach barca class it has to attack like ateam and defend like a team.

  • GUnnerPete says:

think this article says it all. We have to believe that Arsene took on the crap end of the stick to get the stadium built. The vast money raised selling our top players must have reduced our debt by 30% at least unless the money has gone elsewhere? Now after yet another humiliating season of failure ie; Failure to produce a squad that has enough quality to cover for our traditional major injuries. Failure to buy top quality when needed for 5 years. Failure to accept that certain favourite players bottle it in big and small games home and away. Failure to employ a defensive coach to iron out the fatal flaws that twice has lost us titles when defending leads were needed. Finally failure to bring in UK spirit and pride to fight for ‘our’ club when all about us (especially the press) are hoping for our team to fail. Failure to buy UK players for the same prices who are better than the foreigners purchased ie: Johnson (brum) Smalling (Manure) Johnson (City) Baines(Everton) Cahill, Jagielka, All better than AFC squad players.

Now a miracle turnabout is needed but not expected ie; Arsene has to have a clear our first week after season end….Almunia, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Eboue, Clichy, Squillaci, Vela, Bentner plus at least 6 loanies who everyone accepts will not even make our bench. This will take guts..has AW got it?

Buys should include players know to be Gunners…Tarrabt…Richards…(Smalling if they can buy from us why not the other way around?) add Cahill and Jagielka and pay for them all by selling Cesc.

The team for next year could look like this:

    Szceszny

    Sagna..Cahill…Vermaelen.. Gibbs

    Djourou Wilshire Koscielny

    Tarrabt
    Walcott RVP

Yes I know our present CB’s are listed as MDF but both are quick, both big, both skillful and both can attack. What would you rather have ? another 4 tip tappers who pass 20 times without a shot and a defence that CANNOT defend or a fast skillful team that no forward line would like to face. Another big advantage would be that IF we have major injuries we have a squad that can cover all areas.

    IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!

    • cheese says:

      tarrabt from QPR?

i hope we can do better than that!

      • Hunter says:

Gibbs is not good enough. Clichy is a better defender.

  • chris says:

Jagielka is better than Cahill! And then I read stuff about bringing in players like Taraabt, Hazard, Neymar….people just read stuff in the papers and then expect Arsenal to go out and buy them. What dribble. Alot of players that fans always say we must buy come from nonsense written in the papers. Half the players mentioned throughout the season cannot even be viewed regulalry on tv. So how can the papers or even some fans recommend them?

  • nigerian fans says:

Arsenal is a big club, they are doing there best to win something. They play fine football. It not an easy task to win a trophy. I believe that Arsenal will surprice the world very soon. If you are an Arsenal fans, what you need to do is to give them the support, not cast blame on them.

  • chris says:

” well said.”.. yes we are not perfect and have problems, players are messing up, wenger will fix these problems, but getting rid of him is not a solution and buying players purely on heresay is ridiculous. Support your team. That simple. We could be worse off and be Tottenham, even look at Liverpool, great history..struggling!!.

  • brian says:

    out: almunia

    denilson
    bendtner
    rosicky

    in: hazard
    parker
    cahill/mertasaker
    lisandro lopez

just got a feeling that nasri and fabregas are going to leave aswell
these are big players and wont put up with with finishing forth again

  • Jonah says:

There is no way we are going to buy a big name striker so just forget about that.

    Gary Cahill
    Scott Parker
    Hulk

Those are the three we need to buy the only problem I have is fitting Walcott in seeing as him and Hulk are both RW.

I doubt we will get rid of Vela, probably get rid of Bendtner and Denilson I don’t see Squillaci leaving this soon unfortunately.

  • Bluemoon says:

I think the first of all to change is the players mind ,today ,they becomes all the men in professional football world. Most of them esp the French players are not example Abu who always shows how best technique he is ,Glichy and Nasri who always loss their positions in defensive and try to offense in useless play when the other team play double wall tactics to Arsenal. Why does AW ask himself about how to manage this problem that every team always use to Arsenal. I think AW not practice his players how to manage in this problem ( no precise passing, no good translation in the pitch to move and make some little space and time to play, no pinpoint shots from RVN or the other strikers ,no 90-100% freekicks from Cesc or RVP or anyone else and finally no best setplays from AW in freekick.) AW and his squad should be more professional mind like the other players received the yellow card ,they should make the threaten them for the 2 yellow card it make the easy way to win, the same level or superior team that Arsenal should play for win not play for show off their tecnique ( they will loss to Man U in the next Sunday . Loss is loss even 0-1 or 0-3 or 1-2 is loss that AW should be concern to re think to how to win ,how to build this team to be the Monster that everyone fear and scare ( make scores in every area of the pitch not only in the box. To be the Monster is not change their style, they still is the beautiful passing style but make scores in every area of the pitch that AW’s lad can.). Finally ,AW still is the best manager in this team.

  • Carmelo Pace says:

Why is it that everyone here wants denilson out?i doubt it if this season figured in 15 matches,so on what count he should be shipped out,i for one it would be madness if he is sold, nowadays people who wanted flamini out,are cursing the day he left, players i want out,and with a reason are ,SAGNA,always the same move game in game out, running down the line and crossing the ball, mostly out of play,or on a defender head,or the ball will sail to the other end of the pitch, hopeless at heading the ball, djourou,he is only good at kicking the ball aimlessley and conceding penalties, clischy, less said about him the better, walcott,he will fare better running at aintree, then as footballernavent reached the grade and never will,CESC FABREGAS he is unhappy at ARSENAL the looks on his face and his non commitment tells all,i wouldnt keep my wife if she is unhappy with me,and so should arsenal, sell him PRONTO,arshavin THE MOST LAZYIST PLAYER and couldn’t care less win or lose,AGAIN get rid of him now this is my eleven players for the rest of the season

    scszney

    diaby miguel koscielny gibbs

    eboue denilson nasri ramsey

    van persie

    • ranil says:

      that team would get smashed

      • Hunter says:

That team isn’t even good enough for the Carling Cup.

    • Jon Toral says:

Wow, thats the quickest route to relegation my friend…

    • Steve of Chiang Mai says:

Probably cause when ever he played he was in the main, pretty much ….err……rubbish. He is the 7th Midfielder after Cesc, Jack, Nasri, Song Ramsay and Diaby and most likely would have been No.8 had Frimpong stayed healthy.

He is over paid and certainly under performing. Oh and he cant tackle!

    • Scott (USA) says:

      Shoot me now!!!

  • Damn_Gallas says:

we need a very good defender to partner DJ or Vermaelen in defense. Koscielny can be the backup.

    • Damn_Gallas says:

Someone in the mold of Vidic, Terry or Luiz..

  • ITG says:

I worry that everyone is saying how good Cahill is – he was the “leader” of the Bolton defence which let in five against Stoke! Be careful, if he plays for Arsenal and they let in five he will be touted as the worst buy we have ever made.
One also needs to remember that an Arsenal team with Viera lost 6-1 to Manure at Old Trafford – they weren’t always great.
Replacing Cesc and Samir would be really difficult – most of the players mentioned are really not in the same class and Wilshire has been really poor in the last few games although he always tries hard.
We do need new players and we need to still develop – teams that buy only tend not to get great teams. The British tax system makes this country unattractive to really good foreigners as not only do teams in Spain and Germany pay well they get to keep a lot more of it.
Whatever players we get will take some time to develop as the style of football is different from all other sides and the EPL is physically more demanding than others.
It is going to be a very difficult problem for management and I wish them well. If they change too much next year we will be out of the winners enclosure before Christmas – if not we have the same problem as this year – a very fine balance methinks.

that is 3 very good and talented players and 2 experience ones.

  • jason says:

AW isnt going to get Cahill he has someone in mind im sure but who knows who exactly.

Since when has AW ever got players who have been recommended by people.

    .

  • arsenal11 says:

we need to build our team around denilson, hes one of the most talented players in the premiership. The determination he shows in pushing forward and winning the ball back is unmatched.

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

have you gone completely MAD. Is there another Denilson you are talking about perhaps, not the one who plays for Arsenal??

  • Matty23 says:

for me we need a mass clearout. first people out: bendtner 10m, squillaci 3m, denilson 6m, clichy 12m, almunia 4m. thats 35m. do i need an explanation as to why they need to go? they’re all awful, especially when you realise that denilson earns 60k a week! what a waste.
Now, say cesc and nasri decide to stay, at the very least we should sign eden hazard and tbh i think we should sell arshavin for 15m, hes getting poor and only getting older. we will then
have 50m raised from sales, but 30m to spend as hazard will be about 20million.
also pretty sure we will get a 40m transfer kitty so we will have 70m aswell as eden hazard. WE NEED GARY CAHILL. pay whatever it takes i reckon about 20m as english players seem to cost more. we will then have 50m. I think if westham get relagated we could get scotty parker for next to nothing who will be very decent and we can rotate song, jack and parker as the 2 in the ‘double pivot’ in out 4231.
He should be about 10m but i reckon they will be forced to sell for less, say 8m. we will still have 42m so we should just break the bank to sign a 25 goal a season forward, i reckon tevez because hes not happy at city and it he hands in a transfer request then he could like the idea of coming here!
If cesc does eventually leave we should pay as much a week as it will take to keep samir and move him into the middle where he will be happy, but if we show this intent in the summer market it could be enough to show cesc he should stay. If fabregas does go we should be okay with hazard on the wing and nasri in the centre, but i would love to see sneijder as a ready made replacement! Also if cesc stays and nasri leaves we should sign a winger as we will only have theo hazard and maybe miyaichi so we would need to search, dunnp who we could get there really maybe ashley young but that could be quite expensive as we won’t get much from nasri as he only has 1 year left. Also clichy can;t defend so I would swap him for baines as gibbs is too injury prone.
this is the team i think we will have
    ————————————————————–sczcesny—————————————————-
    sagna—————————cahill————————————–vermaelen————————-baines–
    ———————————————-song/parker————-wilshere——————————————-
    nasri——————————————————cesc———————————————-hazard
    ——————————————————-RVP/tevez———————————————–
would win the league hands down with that team. could also put RVP back into midfield is cescis injured and have him just behind tevez. doubt we would ever have this team but oh well if we can get cesc and samir to stay maybe it would work as long as wenger grows a pair.

    • tommy says:

      Good lineup

      • cheese says:

        nice
but with 70 mil plus hazard we could buy better players

  • azeez says:

The midfield trio of jack song and fab is not working well, apart from fab niether of the two provide offensive threat. maybe we need offensive midfielder to play along fab with one of jack and song sit infront of the back four. jack preferably. A new right back is a MUST, definetely a must.

  • nicoman says:

Cahill was poor against Stoke in a Cup game, brilliant against Arsenal. How would be do against Fulham? The Bear is watching!

  • Peter says:

Sell Rosicky, Squillaci, Bendter, Denilson, Diaby and Alumunia. Buy Cahill, Milito and Baines. Move Bartley, Miquel, Lansbury, Eastmond, Frimpong, Miachi and Jay Emmanuel Thomas up into the first team.
