Johan Djourou very happy with his season, Emmanuel Eboue ready for United

With Arsenal very close to be mathematically out of the title race, defender Johan Djourou confessed he can archive his season with a smile after suffering no long-term injuries during the campaign.

After a serious knee injury damaged his progress last season, the Switzerland International enjoyed 32 starts for the Gunners this season and did a very good job at the heart of the defence, albeit some mistakes.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the centre back explained that his objective this season was indeed to be consistent, play in as many games as possible and show that all injury problems are just a thing of the past.

He said:

That’s what you want to achieve, to be consistent and playing every game. That’s what happening at the moment so I’m very happy.

It was a hard season last season. Why it’s even greater is that things turned out that quickly. Because, you never know, a guy can come back from injury and not be the same. In my case, I think I came back stronger.

Every time you walk on the pitch, you have that adrenaline in you that say, ‘That’s it – it’s your time’. It’s a really special feeling to see all those people coming to watch you and support you. I know a lot of people who’d like to have that in their lives.

Meanwhile, right-back Emmanuel Eboue explained the Gunners should respect rivals Manchester United when the two teams meet on Sunday but added that they should play their normal football game and not be scared of the leaders of the Premier League.

Eboue said:

We need to respect them and play our football, don’t be scared. Play our football and we will see after the game.

This is the problem for Arsenal.

These players need only games, not trophies.
Anyway their manager doesn’t want to win. He wants only beatiful football and CL birth. Then how can we blme players.

The main problem of very young team is this. They need more game to show their talents.

    • drhersy says:

more than 5 seasons of games in 4 Competitions, what are you talking about my friend?!
they had enough games and more than enough. actually we supporters had it with some of these shaky players.every season they say we’ve got the lesson,we are still learning so when they will understand that they are men?maybe not in this life.

    • kenny says:

How old is Borussia Dortmund? Our players aren’t young. They’re just complacent or naive.

  • Charlie says:

He should be feeling the burning pain of failure deep down in his bones, this talk of being happy after another unsuccessful season isn’t good enough. Would Tony Adams have said the same in this situation, of course he wouldn’t. Djourou you were terrible against Bolton, you are on the brink of being relegated to a place on the bench because, in case you hadn’t noticed, every man and his dog is calling for a new centre back to play alongside Vermaelen next year. Wake up and smell the coffee.

    • Davi says:

How many full seasons did adams spend on the sidelines?? I don’t blame JD for feeling like that, but wenger should have dropped him for the bolton game, as he hasn’t maintained his early form, whereas squillaci has improved recently.

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

Bring in Samba from Blackburn – he’ll hurt a few people – he isn’t afraid to put himself about.

      • james says:

Samba will not fit into our style of play! He is slow.. he cannot play a high line like arsenal do. We may stop conceding set pieces but we will concede way more in open play. Im content with vermaelen and Koscielny at the back however i would be more than happy to welcome a more experienced defensive partner for Vermaelen.. Someone that is strong in the air and fast enough, I think Cahill or Jagielka or Sakho would be a better addition.

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

Well said – he should be ashamed. TA and MK would have been ashamed, they might not have been pretty but they stood up for themselves not like this gang of French bottlers – how would they like it if they were’nt getting paid at the end of the week. They shouldn’t because they haven’t earned it.

  • Steve Palmer says:

I hate to say it but Arsenals current squad are a team of bottlers, they have no confidence and show that in every game. Lets face it, if you cannot win against the lower teams what chance have we against the best team by far in the premier league. The players are scared already and will feel the weight of Utd’s defenders, and will bottle, our forwards who cannot penetrate a relegation teams defences, will hardly get a look in, and the fast attacking of Utd’s attack will catch us out as usual, we have no spirit no bottle and no chance. We are not in their class. And don’t expect a massive change for next year, as who wants to play for a team where the Board are not interested in results, only profit.

    • james says:

our forwards not being able to penetrate relegation teams defenses?? Van Persie scoring 17 goals in 17 consecutive games says otherwise..

  • bc says:

Hold on a minute squillaci over Djourou? i dont think so. The problem here is once again the player has become complacent because there is no competition. I mean really, Squillaci is the only competition to JD and Kos at the moment. It will get interesting when TV is back but not interesting enough. We need 3 players fighting for the right sided CB role and another 3 fighting for the left side, if they could have the flexibility to play other positions all the better. That is why we need one of Cahill or Subotic and one of Sakho or Vertonghen. I believe Bartley will be a genuine contender next season, whereas it is a year or 2 before Miquel is put in that category. Imagine Djourou, Bartley, Cahill or Subotic fighting for one place and Vermaelen, Koscielny and Sakho or Vertonghen fighting for another. Then we will see some performances from all of them…………… unless of course 4 of them were injured as per usual.

The same ethic needs to apply for full backs, 3 fighting for each position. Sell Eboue, Eastmond and Clichy, the lad Jenkinson who has versatality can then fight with Sagna and Van der Weil (if only) Whilst buying Vertonghen and Sakho woukld mean these 2 along with Vermaelen, Gibbs, Botelho and Traore would provide plenty of competition and cover for LB, CH & LW

  • javea says:

jd was alwasys going to be accident waiting to happen. watch him closely all how many times he hides from the ball..sure he is a good athlete but thats about it ! oh… and yes he talks to a media a lot as if he was won and done great things in football !

    • Paddy O'Neill says:

when we got rid of Senderos I thought we were getting rid of the other Swiss cheese – we would have been better with a youngster from the reserves – could he have been any worse than JD – not much Im sure

  • Oleg Luzhny says:

Ahh the attitudes of Wenger-brainwashed players.

Shut up Djourou. If you’re happy with that then just go.

    Terrible attitude.

  • Nice Djorou, except iron out u’r mistakes that let us fall prey to Boltonians. Yes Emanuel Play our entertaining footie, as you encourage the fontliners to shoot and shoot always. Why do you have to retreat/Chamach inside the box, when you have all Arsenals and tactics to suffocate the opponent? hope you watched Messi’s second goal encounter with Real M in the champions league at Barn’bou, who can’t do that in our squard and we find a sollution for him in the next transfer market.

Djorou you must always know that the game is never over until its over. If you recall its only Arsenal that has conceded stupid goals in the dying minutes to the game. If i’m not mistaken check your records with A.Wenger.
