Pepe Reina: Fabregas said he might want to go back to Barcelona

Arsenal Interactive - Squad SelectorCesc Fabregas

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina believes it will be another important summer for the future of Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas.

Speaking to Spanish radio station Cadena Cope, the 28-year old confessed the midfielder is a very important element in the Arsenal squad and is doing well with the Gunners but did add that the 23-year expressed his intention of leaving one day with Barcelona his preferred destination.

Reina – who believes Real Madrid is not a feasible option for Fabregas – also explained that most likely he will sit down with the club to evaluate all available options including any offers made from other clubs.

Last summer, Barcelona had a €40m offer for the player rejected by Arsenal with chairman Sandro Rosell saying last month that the Spanish giants will not increase their bid during this summer’s transfer window.

On Fabregas, Reina said:

He is an important player for Arsenal. He is ok there. But he also has expressed his intention of eventually leaving, and he has said that he might want to go back to his home, in Barcelona.

I don’t know if he would like to go to Madrid. I guess that he will sit with the staff of Arsenal and he will evaluate the project there, and he will see the offers he has received.

He is a franchise player for Arsenal, and I am sure that he knows this before taking any decision.

Why would Cesc wants to join the team that is backed by UNICEF and UEFA according to Mourinho? Arsenal are cleaner than Barcelona Cesc!

    • Uz says:

well said.and i think monriho is right

    • mixz says:

Agree fully. Refs and fifa favors barca.

      • 11 Guns says:

yeah, when playing at nou camp. van persie just hit the ball up in the air and he got 2nd yellow. never once i saw a second yellow like that.

      • Kathryn says:

Does none remember Bojan’s disallowed goal in the champions league semifinal last year. Mourinho’s Milan hacked and fouled their way to the final playing something that resembled rugby, but was a far cry from soccer. And now people want to see Real do the same. Look at some stats Baca had way more fouls called against them than Real, and if it was a matter of diving Pepe’s foul was a red card regardless of whether or not he made contact because it was cleats-up. Also over the entire season Barca have had only 9 penalties with 6 called against them, a staggering statistic when you consider that they have the ball 70% of the time, and Madrid’s Christiano has taken at least 9 in the league alone.

    • Kathryn says:

If you believed everything Mourinho says the world would be a very scary place, and Cristiano would be the best player. Luckily neither things are true.

  • Marc says:

Close the door on the way out Cesc and take Eboue, Bentdner, Ashavin and Diaby with you

    • Oti says:

      You forgot denilson

      • Bob the Gunner says:

Almunia is still in the squad too people!!!

    • Uz says:

Noop.Arshavin stays but almunia joins the list!

    • Guna says:

keep diaby, flick denilson.. and it’d be nice to keep cesc too!!!!

      • fanzone says:

u stil wan to keep diaby, the lazy, half hearted player?sell diaby too pls..

  • micheal says:

honestly apparently there’s nothing much to say about our skipper though its really important that he makes up his mind before its too late because he’s undecided mind will cost the team as a whole not him alone for as long as he keeps around at the emirates and that goes for all the other likely movers the likes of Nasri etc otherwise it wouldn’t be bad if he kept around and backed Wenger to drop in three or five mature players with a composed character and more competitive than the ones we’ve

  • Bonza says:

I hear Arsene Wenger was the first person to console Sergi Ramos after he recently dropped the cup from an open top bus during Madrid’s recent parade. He has offered him a place at Arsenal to ensure nothing like that ever happens again

    • Fonz678 says:

      haha thats gold!

    • Goonster says:

that’s the funniest/saddest thing I’ve heard all day, and I’ve been reading blogs about how Barça doesn’t dive and is the only team that plays the game “as it should be”. I will say that if “Barça DNA” includes a propensity for cheating via dives and simulated injuries as well as badgering the ref for a card every time a teammate goes to ground then Cesc has shown little-to-no signs of said DNA.

  • ABU says:

offlet matches he was not Cesc he seems his mind is already at the bench of Barca. Let him go Nasri will take charge of his position other wise we shall loose Nasri. He is not comfortable at the wing

  • The Shining says:

I wonder what Cesc was thinking when he saw those ‘friends’ of his diving and cheating the ref all over the place at the Bernabeu.

    • Uz says:

      Dani alves for example

    • Gunny says:

indeed, what a bunch of moaners

  • Kay-Bloggo says:

Guys we need to respect Cesc much more than we are..He has been a great player for us and a legend in his own right compareable to the great invincibles. He has done fantastic things here..Let us not give him stick whatever the decision at the end of the season….

    • Mark says:

Love the guy, but there are reasons to give hime stick, as captain he should be more in house with opinions, as captain he should know to leave the pitch when injured (Barca) and as an attacking midfielder he should get mor than 2 goals, as Cesc he should not be underperfoming to the tune of Jack looking better, as captain he should be taking a lot of stick for the lack of organisation and panic seen when he is on. There are reasons, but I love him and want to see him stay at arsenal, just get his head into the game. And he should not be shaking hands and smiling when at barca, yeah frends off the pitch, but show some respect to your team

      • Katz says:

I totally agree, I’m sure Sergio Ramos is also ‘friends’ with the barca guys but you see the passion when he plays against them. But with Cesc all he does is put in a perfect through ball for his ‘friends’.

  • Sheriyas says:

Let him go.take wenger with u.we should get mourinho.mite not be great football but atleast we will win something

    • Gunny says:

      too much beer?

    • Guna says:

yeah, cos we can sign any manager we want… what a ridiculous comment. it doesnt get any better for arsenal then wenger i assure you.

    • 11 Guns says:

no. not mourinho. better that we lose playing attacking football than playing defensive boring game. it’s not the arsenal way. if u want trophy, u can join MU and the rest of the glory hunters. i’m staying as long as arsenal can keep producing football that is interesting to watch. Come on Arsenal!!!

  • Alex B says:

Ok, so I’ve been giving it some thought.
And ya you can tell me to take it back to the drawing board but I think this answers all the questions that need answering. And I’m trying to be realistic with the numbers here.

Sell one of Bendtner or Chamak for 8-10m
one of Diaby or Denilson for 7m
Arshavin for 10m back to Zenit
    Fabregas for 30-40m to Barcelona
with a chance of Clichy going, lets say for another 7-10m
    That’s anywhere from 62 – 77 million.
I’ve excluded the likes of Rosicky, Almunia or Squillaci because either no one will want them, or you’re really not getting anything back.

Buy Benzema for anywhere from 20-25m
    Gary Cahill for 15m
    Jan Vertonghen for 12m
and Eden Hazard for another 12m
On the low end of things at 59m ya that’s relatively optimistic, lets say for arguement’s sake that the number is closer to 70 million.

This is gives a line-up something like:

    ———————-Benzema/RvP/Bendtner?———————
    Hazard/ Walcott/
    Vela/——————Nasri/Ramsey/RvP————–Nasri/
    RvP/ Bendtner/
    Mayaichi Rosicky
    ————-Wilshere/———————Song/———————–
    Ramsey/ Frimpong/
    Denilson? Vertonghen
    Vertonghen/————————————————-Sagna/
    Gibbs/ Eboue/
    Vermaelen/ Frimpong
    Traore
    ——————Vermaelen/————-Cahill/———————
    Koscielny/ Djourou/
    Vertonghen Bartley
    ——————————-Szcezney/——————————-
    Fabianski/
    Mannone/O’Shea
    LEHMANN!

That’s my line-up. Maybe another guy in the middle of the field. Take it all in. Am I wrong?
2 great strikers. Nasri down the middle. Back-up for Song. Reinforced back line.
And I’m only using players we’ve been linked with, and have heard there’s an off chance their clubs will sell them.

    • Alex B says:

      Sorry, Line-up came out weird.

      ———————-Benzema/RvP/Bendtner?———————
      Hazard/——————————————————–Walcott/
      Vela/——————Nasri/Ramsey/RvP————–Nasri/
      RvP/———————————————————-Bendtner/
      Mayaichi——————————————————–Rosicky
      ————-Wilshere/———————Song/——————–
      ————-Ramsey/———————— Frimpong/
      ————Denilson?———————–Vertonghen
      Vertonghen/——————————————-Sagna/
      Gibbs/—————————————————– Eboue/
      Vermaelen/——————————————– Frimpong
      Traore
      ——————Vermaelen/————-Cahill/—————
      ——————–Koscielny/————–Djourou/
      ——————-Vertonghen—————Bartley
      ——————————-Szcezney/——————————-
      ———————————Fabianski/
      —————————Mannone/O’Shea
      ——————————-LEHMANN!

  • George says:

I read that, Inter Milan are ready to offer star striker Samuel Eto’o as part of a deal to lure Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas to the San Siro this summer.
Corriere dello Sport report that the Italian champions are willing to use Eto’o, Wesley Sneijder or Julio Cesar in a part-exchange move for the highly-rated midfielder.
If we could get Eto and Sneijder for Cesc, I wouldn’t really have any problem with that! Would you ?

    • Alex B says:

I could see them including one of those players in a deal, but I doubt two. Giving them Fabregas for Eto’o and Sneijder would be a no brainer. That being said, I think the players have to agree with the transfer and Cesc is going nowhere but home IMO.

      • Goonster says:

Agreed. I don’t see them letting two of their best players go unless they some how drop out of CL qualification and can’t afford them. In that case, they might have to, but then Cesc wouldn’t want to go to Inter just to lose there. Not to mention that Sneijder and RvP will not likely ever CHOOSE to play on the same team. It’s hard enough for them to get along when they are playing for the love of their country. I do think Sneijder is probably the best true #10 play maker out there though and he’s wicked on set pieces. But he’s not coming to the Emirates unless it’s a UCL away match for him.

  • Sheriyas says:

Wenger out.all u people saying we should buy this and that.it wud be great but can u c wenger buying ???no way,he needs to go so we can get sumone who will splash the cash and make arsenal fc a great team again

    • Gunny says:

      repeat: too much beer…

      • 11 Guns says:

must be chelsea or man utd fan imo. splashing cash and in the end have a huge debt in their account. lol..

  • Steve of Chiang Mai says:

Cant imagine why anyone would want a goalkeeper so slow on the uptake…..

  • cin says:

How one club can keep a caption who always wants to leave.

Arsenal should sell him and get good money and invest.

In arsenal case get the good money and put into their pocket and show good profit and enjoy.

  • MC says:

Why doesn’t he -Fab- just leave & give RVP the band? he’s a leader and a performer. Fabs’ cash can be used for a quality central defender alongside Vam.

  • kryslergooner says:

man im sick of hearing the same history about cesc everytime! leave arsenal this summer pls!! we dont want half hearted players at the emirates!!

  • Boswell says:

According to Pepe Guardiola Barcelona have many players like Jack Wilshire in the Barca 2nd team. They would get the chance to develop at that they would not at Barca just like Cesc did not get the chance at Barca. So how about instead of letting them go to waste we do a swap deal for all his Wilshires and a few Millions for the ex Barca reject.

  • Shari says:

See..we can do a very good job even without cesc (after watched our performance and the result against MU this afternoon). In fact, we would be better off without him. True, he has done great for us for 7 years or so, but lately he always looked like his mind were somewhere else when he played on the pitch. Plus this annoying talk about he wants to leave will never end unless he really leaves. It’s not good for other players as well. Today’s result showed that Van Persie can be a better leader. And with Ramsey back, we’ll be just fine. Send him home.
