Wenger on having names in mind for next season and Henry’s return

Written by Jeffrey on April 29, 2011 – 4:45

Arsenal Interactive - Squad SelectorArsene Wenger

With Arsenal set to end yet another season with nothing to show for it, manager Arsene Wenger needs – according to many – to sign new players.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online about what his plans are for the summer, the Frenchman admitted that the Gunners always have names in mind as they evaluate – on a weekly basis – all the reports submitted by their scouts from all over the world.

But, the Arsenal boss added that it’s still early to speak about who could join during the summer transfer window adding that the focus at the moment is to do well in the last four games of the season.

And on the return of Thierry Henry who will be in action with the New York Red Bulls in this summer’s Emirates Cup, Wenger concluded by saying that it’s always nice to welcome an old friend back, concluding by saying how important the Cup is, during pre-season.

On Thursday, Wenger said:

[Transfers?] We always have names in mind because we have our scouting reports every week, we have scouts all over the world but I feel it’s too early to speak about that because it’s important to focus highly on the end of the season.

[The Emirates Cup?] It’s good news to have our friend Thierry Henry back, overall I am happy. It’s always a massive experience and a great experience to have the Emirates Cup, always a big joy to experience that.

i agree. a proven striker would be fantastic. Someone like Falcao, Etoo, or Cavani (just throwing names out there haha). i would then evaluate during pre-season and probably put vela and bendtner on loan to other premier league clubs, the latter can be recalled in the event of long-term injury.

I also hope Wenger brings in a strong no-nonsense CDM. Song is fantastic but an extra player would provide steel to the midfield as Diaby is strong but more attacking and very inconsistent, and Denilson is by no means a good player in that position. Personally i would invest in Vertonghen, he is also a good defender.

Personally i would also bring in a CB/LB to challenge Squillacci or Clichy for their places. Squill i think is a decent player he had a horrendous first season and will improve next year, the latter could certainly use a kick up the backside and i bet his defensive performances would improve if he knew his spot was at stake. Personally i would break the bank for Sakho.

I dont think a new keeper is required. Fabianski and Szsesney have both had a good season and will excel with a strong defence. Since Almunia is probably leaving (thank god) i would bring in a decent but inexpensive keeper to replace him. Im hoping for Schwarzer

    • MGooner says:

Wow, for the 1st time i heard a gunner fan no wanting to get rid of squillaci. Well, i have to agree too. Squillaci is probably not having a good 1st season with arsenal and its too early to say that he deserves to go. But that does not mean arsenal does not need a new CB. I think the new CB has got to be a tough uncompromising defender who is not scared to get the booking for the sake of the team. With that, it should at least inspire our existing defenders the true meaning of defending in the premier league. Too many times I see our defenders preferring to ball watch than to actually get in and wrestle for the ball. That, i think is what separates our defenders from Samba, Vidic, Carragher, and John Terry. An for god sakes, arsenal need to work on their set piece training. Too many goals conceded on set pieces and too many goals not scored on set pieces.

Now strikers, yes strikers. Somewhere earlier this season, some fans said that if RVP can keep fit for the rest of the season, we will win the league. Well he is still fit at the moment, and where are we now? Now, I don’t think RVP is all at fault for this, he tried, but he sometimes spend too much time loitering outside the box. I know he is no out and out striker, but as a striker he should be in there more often. I think this is more because of his training. We know Nasri, Arshavin, and Cesc can score goals but trying to get them too involved in scoring a goal can sometimes be considered overdoing things.

Bendtner, well I have watched this guy since he first appeared in Arsenal a few years back. To be honest, I kinda liked him back in those years. But his, lack of improvement and off the pitch arrogant talks have just made him one of my least favourite players at Arsenal. He has been courting other clubs out there recently ala Adebayor. I think if he thinks he deserves better, then he can just go. Let his place be taken by a more no-nonsense striker. A striker who just want to get the goals and will do anything to get it. Guys who are good at this are Darren Bent, Drogba, Javier Hernandez, and Higuain. Now its not really possible to get these guys this summer, but at least Arsene Wenger should try finding a striker like this and mix and match to at least add unpredictability to the typical Arsenal tactics.

I can talk all day about midfield, keepers and Fabregas but ill save that for a later day.

    • kelly says:

the scouts just informed him of a player from the lower french divisions whos having a great season.i think even with the transfer budget aside selling ebuoe and bendtner should generate enough funds 4 a decent striker.

  • Bonza says:

well that is 3 internationals how many do you want? There is also Rosicky which makes 4. Do you think world class players are going to come and sit on the bench? Name for example Barcelona’s or Man United’s 4 options for the wing? Even up front you say we only have RVP, not true we have 3 more international strikers, not just nobody’s but regular scorers and 1st choice picks for their country. Remember we play with only 1 up front. United play with 2 they have Rooney and Hernandez after that they have Berbatov and Owen, then what? I agree that perhaps we need to improve our quality, but firstly we need to consider changing the formation. Currently we play with 5 midfielders so naturally our squad is packed with midfielders and versatile players that can play as wingers. Even if you look at Chelsea and Man City who have spent over half a billion between them and pay absurd salaries cannot keep all their strikers and Wingers happy. We already have 61 professionals in our squad that is around 15 more than Man City and 20 more than Chelsea and United.

  • kensley says:

arsene wenger is a great coach he has made the invincibles and we fans got used to that ,howerver his faith in this youngsters must stop cause he has believing in them for the last 6 years and they cant produce ,he really has not replace the invicibles gunners which he sold ,he need to admit he got it wrong the last 2 seasons and need to move on and buy players and make drastic changes to keep up with the modern football of today and also we play a beautifull game of passing but it not getting us anywhere start teaching them to take shots and show more urgency when they behind in games

  • kenny says:

trust me Arsene always has prospects but the window will close without a single signing. he’ll say we have enough quality. Even when he signs, the players play well at first but fit in with time and become lazy just like the rest. No shooting no nothing. Our team is full of complacency thats the problem.

  • cin says:

    Shit and shit……..

What is there in his mind. Only for cheapest, unproved, young and french players……

What kind of scouting is going on he says.
May be its happening, but manager is not listening……….

  • taha says:

we all agree that we need decent strikers not one striker , i think arsenal should buy nilmar from villareal and someone big who can head easily , i love dzeko wenger should try signing him …

    • Boswell says:

Not sure about Dzeko. I mean Man City only signed him this year for close to 30 Million and he has just about had half a season with them.
Sorry mate but I can’t see Wenger even attempting that one.

  • DARKBLOOD says:

arsenal should SELL clichy, squillaci, diaby, denilson, chamakh, bendtner and rosicky & ALMUNIA…….
And BUY baines, cahill, gokhan inler, scott parker, oxlade-chamberlain, cavani or benzema or falcao and a big african striker.

    • felly says:

Scott parker is not worthy to play for arsenal

      • Jon says:

He’s been one of the best premier players this season??? And played in a below average team?

        • CLIVESON says:

YES – BUT HE WASN’T GOOD ENOUGH FOR CHELSEA WHEN HE WAS IN HIS PRIME – SO HE’S NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR US!!!

          • luc says:

well said…i think scott parker should not come to arsenal…he’s just good in westham cos everyone else is average player thea…we need a big strong striker to support van persie…and a goal poacher to that…we need someone to tap in goals…like chicarito is doing for man-u

          • Davi says:

Little harsh. I don’t think it’s that parker wasn’t good enough, he just found his path to the 1st team blocked. They had lampard, who was playing literally every game, makelele (enough said), gudjohnsen happened to be on fantastic form that season in midfield and similarly joe cole had a head start on him. Parker never really had a chance to show what he could do.

Chelsea also let lassana diarra go, and then he couldn’t get into our team. His path to the 1st team just happened to be blocked at that time by the incredible form of flamini – does that automatically mean he wasn’t good enough? I think most people would have him in our 1st team right now if that were possible. If we’d been able to hold on to him for one more season, he would certainly have gone straight into our 1st team and I don’t think we would have missed flamini half as much in 2008/09

      • arsenal11730 says:

I disagree. Scott Parker is more qualified to wear our crest than some of our french ponces.

    • Dimples says:

I agree some of those mentioned need to go. You can’t make so many changes in one season though. He might sell all of those and not manage to get the signings to replace them. Then what? A couple of injuries to the team and your screwed.

Also will any big African player do? lol. It’s just I know a few I play with in a Sunday league and they are giants.

  • Emeka. says:

Wenger should be ashamed of himself 4 mentioning Emirate Cup. D players are Tired & Ashamed of showcasing Emirate Trophy as their achievement while other clubs have somethn reasonable 2 show. Wenger must b a perfect drunk.

    • Oluwaseyefunmi says:

i agree with you..Emirate cup means nothing sincerely, there are other serious trophies to be worn. Wenger needs to wake up from his slumber and produce the results he was hired for…..

  • Dan Mutua says:

I prefer selling 5 players and buying 4….,Sell Almunia,Squillaci,Denilson,Rosicky and Chamakh….then buy Sketelenburg,Mertesacker,Parker and Hazard.

    • Prince says:

Mertsecker was the worst player in the bundesliga and how the hell would you sell the second most prolific striker in our team?(Chamakh). I would sell Almunia, Fabianski, Squillaci, Bartley(He wants out if we buy a new CB), Eboue, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Bendtner(he may be good………………… for the bundesliga). This would fetch around 30mil. That + 40mil we buy Neuer, Cahill and Phil Jones, a no nonesense DM(either Italian or English), real cover for right back in the form of Davide Santon(He’s young and way better than Eboue), Hazard and a CF like Cavani/Falcao/my personal favourite, Alex Pato. We would be a force to reckon with if we got Pato but the rest would do. Bring back Vela from loan and give him a chance in Carling cup and he’ll prove all his haters wrong.
plus Mannone is great Italian cover (the next Buffon maybe??) and Chessney would also be good cover for Neuer. A great LB would be Fabio from Benfica.
      fav line-up
      Neuer
      Sagna-Kozzer/Cahill/Jones-Verm-Fabio Contraeo
      Nasri-Cesc-Song/Parker/Montolivo-Wilshere/Hazard/Vela
      RVP/Vela-Pato/Cavani/Bojan/Falcao

      • zekehenry says:

possibility of neuer coming to arsenal is next to impossible….
may be try for Sketelenburg instead he is good and proven..
mertesacker had only dis season not going previous seaasons he was incredible.
        sketelenberg/schessney
mertesacker and tv5 shud be first choice cb’s
may be v can get bosingwa as it is known dat he is leaving…..so as to give run for sagna for his place..
        for attacking options……
hazard, papis demba cisse and podolskishould be brought
podolski has already stated he wants to play for gunners or spuds

      • Davi says:

As for the RB issue, I’ve never seen him, but some fans compare jenkinson to bale, in terms of energy at least. I will be interested to see how good he is before saying we need to buy more players.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Sounds like the fans and supporters know what they want, now all we need is Wenger to listen.

  • Henry says:

I think Benzema, sakho, vertoghen bt offload rosicky, chamack, bendner, arshavin.no more goalkeeping problemz.

    • Charlie says:

I second that. Only concern is that both Verthongen and Vermaelen are left footed, so is Sakho (although Sakho would be playing LB). The first two play together for Belgium but perhaps a right-footed player at RCB is better. Verthongen has the aerial ability, is technically good enough to play for Arsenal but is he fast enough to play in a high back line. A major plus is his versatility to play CB or DM because we do lack cover for Song in that area, unless Frimpong does a Wilshere next season and becomes a star.

      • Davi says:

Coquelin might be a better bet than frimpong to be honest, for next season at least. I think they are both good enough but coquelin has had a really good season playing DM, RM and RB, whereas frimpong has obviously suffered a major injury, and he did have an injury record before that.

      • GoonerGaz says:

I would love to see verminator play left back now and again. That would allow us to play our new cb alongside Djourou or Kozza.

End of the day, Clichy isn’t quite good enough and Gibbs isn’t there yet.

  • john harden says:

maybe jones of stoke might fit the bill big strong forwarward and of course wanger would love the price lol

  • Tosin says:

We need playas on all the dept apart from keeper. Cahill well will be expensive. Inler d price shud b ok. Harzard quiet xpensive. Falcao/benzema both decent strikers. Offload eboue denilson rosicky almunia and bendtner. Let arshavin stay 1 more season. So they shud all fetch 25million

  • DICKTO says:

I think Arshavin should be given one more season, but the rest that appeared in the exit are ok.Goal keeping seems not a big problem if we can bring defenders like shako.A proven striker is a must if we are to compete.

  • ewa jerome says:

sell 5 players like bertner, squalaci, dieby, delnison, almunia & buy eto,o, cahil, bensima & the rest we need players not any how players but good players

  • wisegent; says:

wenger may you know that we dont need those scouts, the perfect scouts are the fans because they are all over the wolrd be it the smallest continent, only that you yourself you are fond of ignoring their oppinions, some of the fans are former world class footballers,in management if no changes in production increase or output changes are made,”the ball is in your coat”.My fellow gooners have a nice day and keep faith.

    • Mijodarling says:

You are right friend, wenger doesn’t need any scouts..fans are better scouts than those call them self scouts..we the fans knows who we want and who can help us to achieve our goal.We need fighters and the strikers who have good finishing..players who strong, well defensive and well strikes…i think wenger is the main reason why we are going throphless..because he don’t hear us we the fans..lets try vemaelen and M.Sakho,1 good defensive midfielder ,and a good finisher…..we will be the greatest teams in this world…

    • Charlie says:

That’s a load of rubbish. Fans talk about players after they’ve been linked with Arsenal most of the time which is after the scouts have scouted them and Arsenal have enquired to their clubs. Alternatively fans pick players who are good on football manager. Just as every fan thinks he can be a manager every fan thinks he can be a scout. Name me one fan who suggested Thierry Henry, Kolo Toure, Patrick Vieira, Cesc Fabregas, Robin Van Persie….i could go on but i think i’ve made my point.

  • Ozziegooner says:

Chamakh is not prolific, second highest scorer yes, but certainly not prolific. Parker not a worthy player? That’s insulting and shows how ignorant people can be. The guy is a no nonsense bad ass who fights for the cause when on that football pitch. He is s player who I admire and who can look himself in the mirror and say he’s earned his money. How many players can honestly say that! A worthy winner of the football writers award and unlucky not to get player of the year.

  • PHIL says:

Wisegent, I sense wisdom in your words just as it is contained in your name but I should also say that your elementary English teacher received his pay for a work not done. Meanwhile you are on point, it is the fans who whatch all these matches across the globe, who realy observe and note who is good for us. The problem is they have no decision making powers on this. I reckon a major shake up will do us a lot og good.

  • The BearMan says:

Arsenal need some exciting players that are match winners. At least two or three players that can turn a game. Imagine having a line up that includes Lukaku, Williams and Hazard. Pruning is vital. When most teams in the Premiership only need to add one or two to their squads, Arsenal needs 4 – 5.

The defense is number one priority, fit that and consider the wingers and another defensive midfielder.

We also need a lethal striker whose only business is scoring goals. Someone that will not be happy until they have scored 30+ goals per season. The expectations at Arsenal is to low.

  • bearwoman says:

Arsene needs to look at how other teams defend.Look at how RM managed to keep Barcelona and Messi at bay until Pepe was sent off. Similarly there are many defensive minded epl teams.
To me the gunners have no coordinated plan . It is each man for himself.A look at some epl teams will show they have two lines of defenders who dont go awol.
Until Wenger has a well organised plan for defence, there will leaks and against a potent forward line like the red faced’s and it could be curtains. It is not not all gloomy.Recall the gunners game against Chelsea beaten3-1. The gunners played like their lives depended on it.The blues were closed down as soon as they got the ball.
If the gunners can play like this, there is no reason why the red faced cunt can’t be sent packing.

    • Charlie says:

I think you’ve made an excellent point bearwoman. Not so much about Real because they played negative tactics at home and still lost 2-0 without having a sniff of goal. True they kept them out for a long time until they were down to 10 men though, not many teams are capable of that, only ones managed by Mourinho. I was more interested in the point about closing down. That’s the part of Barcelonas’ game that many overlook, when they lose the ball they immediately hunt it down in packs. When Arsenal have been at their best they’ve done that, even though it was a struggle against Barca. When the hunger goes from the players their work rate diminishes so they close the ball down less and their cutting edge disappears. We need more players at the club who never lose that hunger. Cesc has lost it because he wants to leave and if he loses it how’s he supposed to lead the team. For me he’s the wrong choice, it should be someone who is Arsenal to the core and represents everything that Arsenal stands for. If Jack was 5 years older i’d say he’s the perfect man for the job but you can’t inspire players senior to you at 19yo, can you ? Having a captain who clearly isn’t gonna stay much longer sets a very bad example.

  • Charlie says:

Blimey, looks like Belgium are gonna win the World Cup. Lukaku, Hazard and Verthongen are the hottest properties around at the moment plus that Vermaelen fella is quite good. How about we get all of them and have a nice little Belgian community in North London.

  • The BearMan says:

Who is this bearwoman – I know not?

  • bolaji ogundele says:

In my own opinion, i think cahill is overrated. Wenger should get 2 versatile defenders(vertoghen and sakho),
and a prolific stricker(falcao, cavani or benzema). Sell almunia, eboue, denilson, rosicky, squil(good but not of premiership standard).

    • The BearMan says:

I am starting to agreed with you, as I have only seem Cahill put in one brilliant performance this season and that was against Arsenal recently. He is strong yes, but no Tony Adams. The performance that stuck in my mind, was against Stoke in the FA cup. A rather disappointing performance! Arsenal needs a CB that will take command of the backline, stop every attack and take pressure off the keeper! Then occasional move forward and score the odd goal. He has to be fast, able to read the game and put out any attacks.

  • Bob the Gunner says:

I still don’t know how the hell did we miss out on Chicha-freakin-rito.

    • The BearMan says:

When I saw him at the World Cup tournament, then heard Man Who? purchased the lad, I said to my close friends and a few Man U supporters that Fergie has found himself another Ronaldo.

I dread to think what Lukaku will do in the Premier League?

      • Uz says:

How is it that sir Alex can spot a nobody and transform him into a world class player while our players keep diminishing in form simply because we have a coach that lacks that ability.
Sir Alex, munriho, guadiola, even harry woodini can turn the most clueless player to an agressive player hungry for success. It is only in arsenal that it dosent really matter if you fail to deliver or live up to expectation.Elsewhere, both coach and players will be sanctioned.Fab said it.In spain and indeed elsewhere except Asenal FC,there is no room for failure.Barca sent ibrahamovic packing.Im not sure arsenal will have the nerve to let him go.Let AW understand that no player and himself,is indispensible!

  • cheese says:

howedes, hulk and coentrao and maybe vertogen

  • Abu says:

I’ve read through most of the posts by Gunners fans but what we all miss is the fact that it is not the players who dont fit in to our system but it is Arsene’s system which does not suit the players. If we bring on board new players which I strongly believe will not come to pass”read stubbornness”, we’ll treating symptoms instead of the real underlying problem. What we require of is change of guard and it is time to make tough decisions. We all know Arsene has done a marvelous job at the club but his continued stay will only jeopardize the future of the club. Watch this space.

    • The BearMan says:

No, Mr. Wenger still has the ability to take a rough diamond and transform the same into a first class player, but it is if he chose to. That is his best coaching skill, unfortunately the focus is directed on a system, not individual performances. Some how he has not seen Vela, Diaby and Denilson going backwards and Arshavin and Rosciky getting slower and Arshavin getting fat.

    • tommy says:

It’s kind of true. Wenger plays a lot of players in positions they are unused to, and thinks it’s ok because they are “quality” Haha

      • kenny says:

I don’t understand why Arsenal players never shoot and if they shoot it’s towards the corner flag. There’s a lot of laziness and it discourages the few hardworking players like what happened to Samir and RVP.

        • Dimples says:

What happened do RVP??? He’s just scoring in every bloody game he plays in lately.

    • kenny says:

I fully support u Abu. If Arsene stays, nothing ever changes. How many yrs do the fans need to see that? AW’s poem is ‘Next season”.

  • James says:

    HAZARD YOU MUST BUY HAZARD!!!!!!

SERIOUSLY DON’T LET HIM GET AWAY

  • harold says:

i was just laughing at ur analysis of Rvp. go and luk at the statistics. he is ahead of all the strikers u have mentioned. the guy has scored a goal per match. what more do u want. dont blame for the sake

    • The BearMan says:

I do agree on RvP now he has to start working on overcoming his sole weakness! Injuries! I would like to suggest RvP work on some flexibility exercises by exercising his ankles, knees, legs, waist and practice sitting for long periods in a horse riding stance and always warm up well before playing his sport.

      • Abu says:

I think if we can recruit a proven striker like Tevez or Rooney, David Villa, Luis Suarez at whatever cost, together with RVP then surely nothing shall stop us from assuming positions. As Terry Venables has put, Arsene should stop behaving like a director but start thinking like a manger at least for once in 7 barren and long years. For me only Cesc, Nasri, RVP, Wilshere, Sagna, TV, Song and Wojo fit Arsenal’s status. The rest can not be placed even in our reserves.

  • David Wanyoike says:

I have read with interest the obsession with strikers. Walcott is better than Hernandez only that AW doesn’t recognize that. Iam really disgusted with AW for saying that Hernandez is a threat when he knows that Walcott is a better player when played in his natural CF role. Imagine Walcott & RVP in a 4-4-2 formation.

The second thing is those idiots in the Medical team. If Valencia was an Arsenal player he would not have started playing. If TV was a ManU player, he would have started playing last winter( Hargreaves is a sad case). I am asserting that you can buy CBs.DMs, Strikers etc but if those clowns in the Medical dept are still there, forget about winning anything.

    • The BearMan says:

What Walcott has to do is to take what he has learned from his coach and tinker with the same info and develop a personal form that suits him personally. He must learn to look forward to the challenge of doing battle against the best, and find a way of outsmarting each challenger. He must find a way of confusing his opponents – worried about what he will do next.

Walcott has the brain, the speed and skills, now he just has to believe in his own ability and practice as though playing a game of chess but always finishing with an end product. That is what will cause others to consider him – Special or Genius!

  • Zion says:

Rosicky was only denied a chance to play . Remember how good he was when he had just joined. There are some matches where Ebue plays in the midfield when Rosicky is on the bench and I wonder.

    • The BearMan says:

I would replace Rosciky with the JeT instantly. Arsenal is delaying this lads progress. The JeT will be in the first team B squad, together with Lansbury, Bartley, Aneke and Afobe. If Arsene devote some of his coaching time on these lads after bringing in 4 -5 class and experienced players, he will not have to spend monies in the January transfer window.

    • Dimples says:

He had that long injury spell and has not been the same since. There was a time it seemed he may not recover. Arsenal have not wronged him in any way. Now we sorted that out I hope it’s one less thing you need to wonder about.

  • Jioke says:

We need a striker in the mould of Benzema or falcao, a strong D.M to challenge song. Defensively our problem is not the defenders but 4-3-3 formation, we always need our fullbacks to overlap frequently to add width up the pitch when we’re attacking. When we loose the ball b/4 they return our center backs moves to the wings to close down and we are torn apart by their attackers or we concede free kicks at those dangerous positions. While half of our players are not quite tall. That formation need to be stopped, it only favours few players while the whole team suffers for it.

  • Jack says:

we need to sign 5 players
Hazard, Benzema, Parker, G.Cahill and Chamberlain
    then sell
Almunia, Fabregas, Denilson, Diaby, Rosicky, Eboue and Traore

    • The BearMan says:

The Bear would chose Williams over Benzema any day. That is a player waiting to explode on the World stage. Lukaku is a must have!

  • dan says:

isnt it funny we are talking about henry returning. we have not replaced this man. van persie has replaced berkamp. diarby was meant to replace vieira. i think the focus should be on replacing these 2. we must also get another solid cb. we play great football but we lack a strong fast and intelligent forward. v p has inteligence and ability but no pace and power like henry. adebayour had his flaws but he added something. jterry and viditch do not mind van p and arshavin or cesc or nasri. so to me we need more power through out the team. to replace viera with cesc was great but its time to go back and get those strong players back in the team. look how drogba has torn us apart year after year. im sick of cesc im sick of manu bullying us with their brand of stokesk league winning football.
im hoping it was just the mass changes at board level that stopped wenger buying in the past and i hope this summer his tune would of changed.
we need a powerful striker because this should not be van ps job and a powerful and brave centre back, maybe cahil. throw in hazrd kick out cesc and replace diarby with a more mature version.

    • The BearMan says:

Take a look at some of the YouTube videos of the Brazilian Williams, who does he remind you off?

Embarrassingly, I have a feeling that Morinho might have been right on something about Wenger: “I think he is one of these people who is a voyeur.” Look what he says about every top performer another club has bought. Ronaldo, “he almost joined Arsenal”, Drogba , “we almost bought him” ….Hernandez, ” he has been in our Radar” . In all these cases, the fact that Wenger was close to buying them might have been right. But he probably hesitated to add a few more dollars to match the price they deserve (i heard he was to pay something around 11 million for Ronaldo, and Fergusen came up with 12 Milion and took him). He probably wanted to buy Hernandex for 5 Million, Manure snatched him for 7.5 million. The point is, having peoples’ names in your mind is not sufficient, Mr. Wenger, you need to have the determination to part with the money that those players attract in the market. Alonso was tired of Liverpool, and just for few more dollars than Wenger was willing to pay for him, he went to Madrid. Lescot, Cahil, Schwartz…. .Wenger, if you don’t have the guts to spend money that matches players’ valuation (just a bit more than what you think the player deserves, probably), don’t just mention names and don’t get Arsenal’s name connected to every big player. Wanting a player in a position, and having identified a particular player are just first steps. You get to go further and decide to part with the amount of money other clubs are ready to offer them. Don’t just pronounce, again and again, that I will strengthen, only to stubbornly announce, after the closing of the transfer window, that “We are a strong team, our players are mentally strong, we will bring trophy this time, judge me by the end of the season, blah, blah, blah…”

Had he trusted his instincts on Ronaldo, Drogba, Villa and a number of players he firmly believe in the Arsenal trophy cabinet would have had something each year. Consider this, many managers are watching and listening to see and hear his opinions on certain players, then jump in and make a deal.

It is also true that some players are over-priced! Such as Cahill, but he might turn into a gem. True current value is 12m.

Trust me he’ll never buy. It’s happened over and over. We can mention who we should buy or sell but trust me there will be no change as long as AW is still manager.

    • The BearMan says:

Wenger also knows that he is in the last chance saloon!

Despite all his achievements at Arsenal – he will still be regarded as a failure if he does not turn this team around. The greatest insult is the team he has put together saying you got it wrong.

Next season is the making or breaking of Le Boss. Does he still have the quality and foresight to turn Arsenal into a great team again? Not long to wait! He has to ruthless and dispense with the services of a few individuals, bring in a few and get them playing as a team very quickly. Making certain his A and B squads are true quality that he can rest players and be sure the person coming on WILL do the job. Plus get all the fans firmly behind the team again. Simple job for a professor!

of course its always good to have The Emirates cup pre season as it’s the only trophy we stand a chance of winning…..

    • The BearMan says:

The fans demand – bragging right! Only comes through beating the best and finishing top at the close of the season.

  • Jimmy says:

whatever happens i jus hope we dont have clichy at left back. He is soooooooo shit and useless!

    • The BearMan says:

He is a B team player, but Gibbs needs to toughen up and challenge for top spot. Gibbs worked hard to get in the first team, but needs to do more to keep that spot.

  • Sean says:

If fabregas goes use Nasri centrally and sign Alexis Sanchez or Eden Hazard to go on the wing. Then sell Almunia and Mannone and sign Shay Given. Then get Oxlade Chamberlain and Jenkinson. Sell Denilson and Rosicky and Traore and perhaps Bendtner. Replace Bendtner with Cavani, Falcao, Remy.

No centre back is needed because we have Bartley and Vermaelen. I’d also release some youngsters who look to far off the first team: Rhys Murphy, Sanchez Watt, Mark Randall, Gavin Hoyte.

  • timao says:

Eto’o would be good. If Miachi can get a permit he will make a difference. But we have to have a new gialie, the best that money can buy.

  • Paul says:

Firstly Sell Denilson Almunia Rosicky Squallaci Eboue and maybe Diaby but Bendtner on a season long loan to increase his play time and Fab or Nasri might leave i suggest try to keep atleast one if not both 40 million(Wengers Kitty) plus 30 million from our below par players 70 million
    Hazard would be 20 Mill
Vertonghen or Mertesacker 10 Million or 8 million
Scott Parker or some good midfielder 7-14 million
Leighton Baines if Clichy leaves 14-17 million
maybe a keeper behind Steklenburg 13 million
and a good striker and someone who will play with out getting burned out
maybe a Dennis Bergkamp as you assistant

  • The BearMan says:

Arsenal fans forget Cahill, the lad is very inconsistent and not worth 10M in my estimation. Taking his last three performances into account:

    1) Against Stoke at Wembly, his team was beaten 5 v 0. Cahill did not cope well under pressure and did not help to deal with the onslaught.

    2) Against Arsenal where Bolton beat Arsenal 2 v 1 Cahill had a good game.

    3) Against Fulham where they were beaten 3 v 0. Another poor performance. Fulham fans said they had forgotten Cahill was even on the pitch.

Arsenal needs a rock in defense, Arsenal will be paying over the top for the lad, he is beginning to make Squallaci look good.
