Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin was bitterly disappointed after the Gunners ended the season in fourth place, in England.
Speaking to his official website, the Russia International admitted it was a difficult season for the Gunners and that at one stage no matter how hard the players tried things were always turning against them.
Asked when Arsenal will finally end their six-year trophyless crisis, the 29-year old confessed everyone believed the just-ended year was supposed to be the one but despite having a golden chance against Birmingham in the League Cup Final, the Gunners failed to finally bring a trophy to the Emirates.
And on who, in his opinion, was the best player in England for each role on the pitch, Arshavin was honest enough to list three Manchester United players in his list as well as Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere.
After the Fulham game, the midfielder said:
The season turned out to be difficult for Arsenal. The championship was difficult. At the end of the championship I had a feeling that no matter what we did and how hard we tried – everything was against us.
[The reason?] We couldn’t win, we tried, but the season went its own way. Our paths parted at some point.
[When will we finally win a trophy again?] We expected it this year. There were some good chances. We had to win the trophy in the League Cup final. Unfortunately, in that game we allowed Birmingham to become the owner of the Cup.
[Positive news?] Relatively. Well, it’s great that next year we are going to play in the Champions League, or rather, we’ll start with the qualification. [And] our fans’ support.
[Best players in each role?] Goalkeeper: [Edwin] Van der Saar; Defender: [Nemanja] Vidic, Midfielder: [Jack] Wilshere; Forward: [Wayne] Rooney.
