Chris Powell: Jenkinson to Arsenal? Can’t officially say it has been done

Charlton Athletic manager Chris Powell confessed he is surprised that the Finnish Football Association announced that Carl Jenkinson is an Arsenal player.
Speaking to News Shopper, the Englishman revealed that the Addicks met with the Gunners to discuss the future of the English-born Finnish defender but as it is yet to be announced he opted not to officially confirm reports showing his surprise at the decision of the Finnish FA to announce the transfer.
But, Powell added that it is very unlikely that the 19-year old will be a Charlton Athletic player next season saying that the Club should benefit from the transfer as it will help their current financial situation.
It was first reported that the youngster will move to Arsenal two months ago with many believing that manager Arsene Wenger is strengthening the left wing ahead of the departure of France’s Gael Clichy.
On the future of the player, Powell said:
I’m surprised the Finnish FA have done that. We have been in dialogue with Arsenal but until everything has been sorted out I can’t officially say it has been done and dusted because it hasn’t been announced yet.
I’m sure Carl, if nothing goes wrong, won’t be our player any more. That is a shame but if it all comes off then it is a wonderful opportunity for him.
I know our club has been through a lot over the years and we are still getting ourselves on an even keel financially.
We will have to discuss what happens with the money and I’m not banking on that at the moment but maybe some percentage will be available, who knows.
