Emmanuel Frimpong: Why I’m a different person after the injury

Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong will be delighted to end the Asia Tour with no injury worries as he was quite convincing in both games.

Speaking to Arsenal Player before the squad left for China, the 19-year old explained that it’s always a nice feeling to train and play alongside the first team as ultimately his objective is to show to manager Arsene Wenger that he can be a valuable asset in the Arsenal midfielder.

Asked about confidence, the youngster explained that the more time he spends on the pitch the more confident he feels as he however confessed that he’s still not as sharp as he was during last season’s pre-season.

On being cautious after returning from a long time on the sidelines, Frimpong concluded by saying that he is indeed a “different person” as one should always be cautious after spending months out because of injury but again said that he wants to play, impress and secure a regular place.

Ahead of next season, the Ghanaian-born said:

It’s always nice to go out with the first team and see what it’s like to be part of them, that’s why I’m here, to try and just and get into the team, show the manager what I can do.

Every time I come on the pitch, the more time I spend on the pitch, the more confident I feel. I just want to be on the pitch and train. The physios told me that the more time I spend on the pitch the more confident I’m going to be with myself.

I’m still not 100% fit as last year but that will come, I just have to be patient. [If I'm a different person after the injury?] Yes, I am quite different, I’m quite cautious on the pitch but that’s just normal [as] it would be silly to come back from a big injury and still go mad on the pitch.

As I said I just want to play, I want to give it all when I’m on the pitch, it’s a big opportunity for me to show what I can do.

Hopefully everything goes right, I’ll stay clear from injuries and I’m sure I can perform on the pitch.

I wish the young man well but we will see whether he as quick after this iunjury – most players are not. And he has a lot to learn. Hence we need to buy a tough defence midfielder – not just rely upon Song and Frimpong.

  • I had always liked frimpong composure and style of play.
