Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed captain Cesc Fabregas could miss Saturday’s friendly game against Cologne, at the Rhein Energie Stadion.
Speaking to the Club’s official website, the Frenchman explained that the Spaniard is not back to full training yet and although he is back running on the pitch he needs time to be back in full training, reason why fitness tests were scheduled for Monday morning.
Asked about the continuous rumours on the future of the Catalan, the Arsenal boss again confirmed that his objective is to keep last season’s squad intact adding that speculation come from everywhere and can hardly be stopped.
Fabregas, 24, has been yet again linked with a move to Barcelona with Real Madrid and AC Milan apparently also interested although earlier this month Wenger insisted that together with Frenchman Samir Nasri, the captain will be an Arsenal player next season.
Ahead of this week’s friendly game, the manage said:
We will have to see how far he is with his injury. Normally, yes [he will go]. He is not back in full training. He is back running on the pitch and the next step is to be back in full training. I will have to assess him on Monday.
My target is the same – to keep the players and my desire to fight for that is the same. The problem is [that] we face speculation from everywhere.
