Jack Wilshere: Gervinho? Impressive, he can hit 10-15 goals a season

The Gunning Hawk - ForumJack Wilshere

Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere was delighted with yesterday’s win over Cologne, in Germany, as he was full of praise for new arrival Gervinho.

Speaking to Arsenal Player after the game, the Englishman confessed that the friendly game was a much tougher test than the two games the Gunners played in Asia adding that they started well, scored an early goal and put pressure on the local side, just what they wanted to do in the early part of he game.

Asked about Gervinho’s two goals, the 19-year old said that he was very impressed with the winger’s debut, a good addition to the squad as he can time his runs to perfection and score goals.

On what the Ivory Coast International can add to the squad, Wilshere concluded by saying that he is a player similar to Theo Walcott as he can can cause all sorts of trouble to the opposition and capable of scoring between 10 to 15 goals in a season.

After the 1-2 win, Wilshere said:

It was a good work out against a stronger team that those we played in China, no disrespect but these were a top team.

It was a good workout on the goal, good win today. We were unlucky with the own goal, we don’t see as many own goals as good as that but we’re happy with the fitness and the result.

We started off well, that was the idea to get on top of them, get an early goal and keep the pressure. We are working on defending hard on the pitch and I think we’ve done that well today, I hope we can continue going into the season.

[Gervinho?] Very impressed, the timing of his runs and even when he got on the end of the ball, he had a finish, I’m very impressed, he’s a good addition to the squad and I hope he can do it.

I think his first touch was a goal, if he can keep carry on that form this season we have a new player who can get in 10 or 15 goals a season.

It’s a midfielder’s dream when you get players that run in behind like that. The timing of his run was perfect and really [it was] an easy pass where I had to chip it over the defender and he was on to it and it was a good finish.

[What he can add?] He’s similar to Theo [Walcott], obviously each one of the wingers is different and he can score goals as well and that’s what we need, goalscorers and players who are dangerous for the opposition.

Gervinho will be the next Gervinho!
Why are we so obsessed with the past, we need to move on.

I’ll be over the moon if Gervinho is the next Henry but it’s important we don’t get carried away.

Remember, Diaby is supposed to be the new Diaby, Theo is supposed to be the new Henry and Ramsey & Wilshere the British Xavi & Iniesta!!!!I refuse to get excited about the new season, even if we sign the required CB, LB, Striker or another midfield enforcer.

This team has broken my heart so many times, even if we are 6 nil up in the 90th min, I still won’t be 100% certain of the victory!

go suport someone else then, its easy. Loving a team its like marriage ,with goods and bads. Gooner for life and after!!!!

anything more than 4-0 is sufficient.

      Simple, support someone else !

While i agree with you in part – my instinctive reaction to his first two goals were “Is that Ian Wright?”

His finishing for both was lethal and for the second he was brave and strong.

I think we have a striker on our hands – someone who knows what to do with all the bullets the midfield will put in the gun for him…

If he gets a run in the side and can play with RVP (and there is no reason to believe this can’t be as good as DB10 and IW8) – i expect 30 goals from him.

He is more like eto’o then henry

Henry was rubbish on the wing, lol. I think Alpha t meant Diaby was supposed to be the next Vieira . I hight have been if he wasn’t injured on the last day ba few seasons ago. He was a different player back then. As was Eduardo before Taylor injured him. Sure Gervinho looks bright and very promising, but can he hack the physicality of the English game? Not all players do, Robben at Chelshit was one example, as was Limpar, Bobby Pires was threatening to leave in his first season between stories about his lucky underpants, lol, but he managed to get used to it. Reyes never did. Gervinho may be a future legend. He’s 4 years younger than what Ian Wright was when he joined Arsenal. Yeah, Wright was 28 when he joined us. I’m pleased about Gervinho so far.

  • Alpha t says:

Yeah I did mean Diaby was supposed to be the new Vieira lol

    I can’t count the amount of times I’ve wished I wasn’t a gooner, but it’s more than a marriage, cos I can’t divorce Arsenal!

Gervinho will hopefully avoid injury and if he can be half as
Lethal as Wright, he’ll be a great signing.

Wilshere does look in fantastic form though!

  • arsenal4eva says:

Gud job Gervinho…..hope u will continue scoring more goals!…Gud luck bro!

  • Mooqs says:

Why are you guys mentioning Gervinho to be the next Henry or whatever???!!!

The guy just came to the club last night has scored 2 goals and already people are thinking his gonna be like Henry and comparing him!!!

This is what annoys me so much about some Arsenal fans man *sad face*

  • dianjuh says:

    The loyalty here baffles me.
Are we loyal to Arsenal or to Arsene? This man has kept us on the wait for 6years that he will sign on the weaknesses we have to make us the team we used to and we ought to always be….English Champions!! But no…… everyone…….and I mean that literally… knows we have a less than appropriate defense for tough premiership and we are signing strikers?? We now don’t have a LB, Our central partnership apart from Vermaelen is same old like last years and only Song for back four cover and you guys are looking forward for next season?? What has changed for crying out loud? We are probably going to root teams like blackburn, bolton Swansea, etc etc….but so will the Manchester teams and Chelsea…so the difference will be games between us…..and you guys honestly think we can win? I have come to terms with the fact that Wenger and the board are happy with Just a Top 4 finish because that is what we are capable of achieving with this squad. Oh and if Fab and Nasri leave…well…lets just say God save us!!!!

  • Chabbz says:

On all Gooner comments and other third party commenter pretending to be gunners fans,

Don’t build pressure on Gervinho. Gervinho will be Gervinho one day, Not Hnry, Not Ian Wright. 1stly he is not bold, he got hair so not henry or Wright can be compared :P

No seriously, Let him be him, Don’t put pressure on him. When Chamlah start scoring everyone was like he is like this like that, and turns out to be a flop. Not entirely a flop, he is still a good addition, and I hope he finds his bordeux form at Arsenal again soon. Because we need him.

As for Gervinho he is a great addition. Has real good pace. Once again to gooner fans, I keep commenting this about Cesc. Do not worry. Even recently Barca bid £33 million which will be rejected. Unless they decide to come close to £40 million since he worth that amount he aint going. He will perform well since he does not want to loose the interest from other clubs. Basically Barca don’t have the money Cesc is staying for 1 final year to give us time to find a replacement and give a good chance of winning something. Nasri same, To leave in a free transfer he need to impress clubs, therfore he will be giving his 100%. Will he be there next season? Doubtfull but this season? He will be.

Finally, If Cesc gets injured now we can always play NAsri in the middle and Gervinho on the right. I think that’s Arsene’s plan as Bendtner was a fail.

Also I really dont think Verminatior and Kozza is a bad pair for our defence. Yes we conceded goal, but some of the wins were ruled offside and some of the draws were given bad penalty decisions to the opposite side. So are we changing the system? No so why change the defenders. They really did not do that much of a bad job that media shows it to be. I think specially without Verminator we handled very well, and the way Kozaa handled messi at Emirates was breathtaking defending. So don’t count them out. I do think we need a defender. However our current 1st choice are really not that bad. Don’t forget the only other 3 teams with good defence was the top 4, and they are all expereince aftr being average for a while. So give our defence a chance to improve. Don’t be stupid fans like Roman Abrahmovic.
