Lukasz Fabianski close to full fitness, to “obviously” fight for #1 place

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski is finally back in full training and ready to fight to again be the squad’s regular goalkeeper.
Speaking to Arsenal Player on Saturday after the 1-2 win against Cologne in Germany, the Poland International explained that the Gunners did well in the game although there were moments in which they suffered a lapse in concentration such as during the first part of the second half.
On his return to action, the 26-year old declared that he’s delighted to be back on the pitch revealing that only three weeks ago he was in a position to finally do some goalkeeping, in training.
With Wojciech Szczęsny doing well in goal during the last part of last season, it will not be easy for Fabianski to again be a regular but when asked about retaking the spot now that he’s back, the goalkeeper was very determined in saying that he will do anything to again be Arsenal’s number one.
After the game, Fabianski said:
I think there were some parts of the game where we did really well and some parts where we were not focused, especially the beginning of the second half when Cologne pushed a bit and they were really close to score an equaliser. We didn’t conceded and then we controlled the game.
I’m very happy that I’m finally fit and could play part in the game today. I’m pleased with my fitness level and hopefully I will just improve in the next day and should be like fully, fully, fully fit.
How long [since I was in full training?] I came back to proper training, to be honest, like three weeks ago and that was the first time when I started to do some goalkeeping.
Before that it was only gym, gym, gym and gym. I can say that my shoulder is stronger than before, hopefully nothing comes up in the next few weeks and my shoulder will be good and I should be good for the competition [coming up].
[My match sharpness?] Yes, to be honest I feel ready. I wasn’t nervous when I came on today, I felt quite good on the pitch, I felt the distance as well and the reading of the game was quite good. Of course I wasn’t busy but I felt good on the pitch.
[Starting role?] Obviously, obviously, that’s my aim and I will do everything I can to be the number one choice. [Gervinho?] He’s really quick and sharp. He showed today his movement on the pitch, it’s really intelligent, a great run, great finish as well.

Arsenal News 24/7

Ergh… this guy will cost us points or get us knocked out of cups this season mark my words. He’s one of the worst goalkeepers I’ve ever seen at the Arsenal. I’d rather we keep Almunia.
