Wenger to give Lansbury a chance, confirms Miyaichi will not feature today

The Gunning Hawk - ForumArsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed midfielder Henri Lansbury will be given a chance this season as he possesses the talent to play for the Gunners.

Speaking in his pre-Emirates Cup press conference, the Frenchman explained that the 20-year old needs to work hard to secure a regular place as with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Alex Song and Emmanuel Frimpong already fighting for a first-team spot, the midfield position is indeed a congested one.

Loaned out to Scunthorpe United, Watford and Norwich City, the youngster impressed with the Canaries, scoring four goals during his loan spell including an acrobatic effort against Bristol City.

Wenger concluded by confirming that due to work permit reasons, Japan’s Ryo Miyaichi will not feature during this weekend’s Emirates Cup as he can only play friendlies behind close doors with the manager insisting that the Gunners want to keep the player ahead of next season.

On Friday, Wenger said:

Henri Lansbury is in a situation where I believe he will make a career. At the moment it is a bit congested for him but I believe he has the talent to play for Arsenal Football Club.

I have to give him a chance at some stage and as quickly as possible. I believe in him. But if I honestly believe he will not play this season or has no chance to compete for a position I will tell him and let him go.

We have been very impressed by Ryo [Miyaichi]. Unfortunately he cannot play tomorrow because he can only play friendlies behind closed doors. We hope very soon we get permission for him to play for us.

But we have all been very impressed by the footballer he is and by the person he is. Will he play for Feyenoord again? Our desire is to keep him here.

Also, I hope Lansbury can find a place in the squad. Perhaps he could fill in for Denilson. Along with Frimpong, he seems a very good prospect, and would provide good cover in the midfield.

That said, I would still like Arsene to bring in an established defensive-minded midfielder to cover for Song and force the perma-crock and inconsistent Diaby out of the squad. Someone in the mould of Gokhan Inler would be perfect.

  • feygooner says:

I hope Lansbury gets a chance, our midfield isn’t too crowded. We have Cesc, Wilshere, Song, Ramsey, Diaby and perhaps Frimpong and Coquelin. Cesc and Diaby can be expected to miss a few games and neither Coq nor Frimpong are established first team members. Lansbury would do well in the Wilshere position I believe.

Im pretty sure Fabregas will leave soon enough, and my gut feeling tells me Nasri will be played in that attacking midfielder role.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Everyone seems to be under the impression Nasri is staying, is there something I`ve missed?

    • mick says:

What you have missed is that Wenger has said he is not leaving. But he is only the manager, what does he know.

      • Chris says:

Actually, Arsene said Samir loves the Club and our desire is for him to stay and if you watch yesterday’s interview you will see that his body language is far from convincing in respect to Samir staying.

  • Nikko says:

Let’s just win something next season.

  • george says:

gud to no wenger is giving the lad anoda chance to play with d first team, even though the midfield luks congested…henry’s got d talent to play in the epl and luks a gud replacement for the departed denilson

  • Donnie says:

    about nasri
well the speculation linking him with any more seems to hgave cooled of not much talk nasri seems okay at arsenal has played in the games.
looks like with a contract or not his going to stay for this season atleast.

and lansbuy i think is a good player
but to chalange and pick him ahead of ramsey, Frimpong and with atleast one more midfilder coming in and with nasri gervinhio and even mata who looks like he might come all can play in the middle.

its best for lansbuy to play week in week out he cant do that arsenal
he should leave and build his careers.

Just dont want any more heart breaks.I have had enough last season.Wenger, you and arsenal board should give the fans and the players trophy this season.Stop using the players to be enriching ur pockets.

  • Longolekong says:

Miyaichi is good player i only pray that soon he will get a work permit.with his pace i can’t wait seeing him on the left wing and walcott on the right van persie up front and gervinho behind him i’m telling you it will be fantastic squad

  • Shegz 9ja says:

wenger should stop using player out of position.

  • Samchixp says:

Wenger should work hard for Miyachi to have a work permit @ the Emirates & i love the way Lansbury plays, he reminds me of Ray Palour, he can mark & he can shoot as well, i like him.

  • gloomygooner says:

Miyaichi would bring the gunners back to Arsenal of old, with real wingers who are fast and skillful enough to get behind fullbacks. Ryo is Overmars 6.3

Lansbury is some much needed grit and guile, a player with some technical ability, but plays with heart and instinct above thought. need a few of those.

This Arsenal team is beginning to look like the Arsenal of the 90’s a style of play for which Cesc isnt needed. Diaby is looking more the the Engine that will fit, and drive this team forward.

    Just my take.
