Arsenal eye £26m double defender deal

Arsene Wenger wants to bolster his defence for next season by signing both Phil Jagielka and Emilio Izaguirre, according to sources close to the club.

The Gunners defensive frailties were all too apparent during Saturday’s Emirates Cup clash with Boca Juniors, when they squandered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2.

Wenger has come in for criticism from some Arsenal fans in recent years for failing to spend big in the transfer market, but he is now planning to splash the cash on two defenders – Everton’s Jagielka and Celtic’s Izaguirre.

Nigel Neita signs professional contract

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that young forward Nigel Neita has signed his first professional contract with the Club.

A quick, powerful player with an eye for goal, 17-year-old Nigel joined the Gunners as a scholar in the summer of 2010, having originally been at Millwall’s Youth Academy.

Arshavin targeted by big-spending Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala

Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin is being targeted Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala.

The Russian Premier League side were taken over by billionaire Suleyman Kerimov in January and already have Brazil legend Roberto Carlos in their squad.

Reports in the Russian media suggest Arsenal are bracing themselves for a £15m bid for the midfielder, whose contract runs out in 2012.

Arsenal break off transfer talks for teenage Croatian star

Arsenal have broken off negotiations over the proposed transfer of Mateo Kovačić, after baulking at Dinamo Zagreb’s asking price for the midfielder.

The Gunners are long-term admirers of the exciting teenage playmaker, and have followed his development since the age of 13, when he rejected a number of Italian and German clubs in favour of a move to Zagreb.

He has since been watched a handful of times by Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley, including on his first-team debut against Hrvatski Dragovoljac last season.

  • GOLE says:

YES I AGREED WITH YAW BREFO

  • Bouba says:

Wenger has been linked to 2 defenders???
I just cannot believe it !!

£26 millions double swap… Well that would be a first…!!

Juan Mata has now been linked with Inter Milan… I won’t be surprised if he goes there… We are just taking to much time and fuss just to sign one player. That is why we lost Alvarez.

We have 26 days left and I just don’t see anybody coming… he may as well get Joey Barton, since he is free ( Wenger likes free players ).

Wenger and Gazidis should realise that without proper signings or reinforcements we will struggle to finish 4th… That’s not difficult to see… The teams challenging for the top have all brought serious competitions, except us… !!

Ohh yes we have Gervinho, the “new Eto”, yeah right !! and Jenkinson…

Wenger needs to wake up and smell the roses… The taste is not very good at the moment.

  • Gunner4life says:

I agree with you bouba , only 26 days left and all we get is speculation, I thought we had funds , why then are we not buying players ? Every arsenal fan knows that we need at least 2 world class Players if we are to challenge for honours

  • FAN1985 says:

Arsene you really are confusing everyone with your comments why is it so hard to buy a defender? criticise barca for there part in the cesc fabregas transfer while you should be focused on strengthening the squad ok we understand these things take time but the season finished in may!!! we all knew from the final day of the season what was required we all knew what was needed we bid silly amounts of money rather than getting the job done everyday i like other gooners wake up to all types of players linked to our great club the shameful thing is they all want to play for arsenal. I do believe we will sign players what my concern is how pathetic weve become to strike a deal.. THINK like a manager nothing lasts forever mr wenger you rather save a sinking ship than to save its passengers!

p.s if we miss out on juan mata i wont be surprised….

  • olaniyi joseph says:

i will be delighted if Arsene Wengar can sign in more defender because this will boost us for thtitle
    race.

  • Sparky958 says:

Gooners need to wake up, we’ve all been hoodwinked into thinking that Wenger was going on a spending spree as said at the meeting with the AST with gazidas telling us it’s going to be a very busy summer. What a joke Arsenal and us fans are becoming I am sick and tired of reading the gunners being connected with this player and that player yet nothing comes of it.
Mata, Campbell,Samba,Jaleilka and anybody else it ain’t gonna happen. Let Cesc go now also Nasri as they’ve got no interest in or playing well for the club next season. As for Wenger he’s not up to the job and the time for him to go is now and take Pat Rice with him. We’re missing out on good players for the sake of Arsene’s policy on buying on the cheap and the youth policy. We’ll be lucky to get pass the first stage of the champions league and be looking at be looking below 4th spot by the end of the season. yet more humiliation awaits unless the board get to grips with Wenger and tell him. If you think Arsenal will win a trophy or the league this season you all need your heads examined.

  • nasgunner says:

If it’s a double signing, I’d prefer Samba and Cahill for £30 million. That way, Vermaelen will play on leftback position and seal the back line.
