[Rumour Rater] Arsenal Transfer News, 18/08: Peter Odemwingie and Moussa Sow

Written by James on August 18, 2011 – 4:30

The Gunning Hawk - ForumPeter Odemwingie

Just like last season, The Gunning Hawk will bring you every day throughout the summer one article with the most creative and sensational Arsenal transfer rumours. To know more about this section and for how long it will be online, kindly visit our forum.

August 18

After witnessing more and more problems in the final third against Udinese, two strikers are today linked with a possible move to Arsenal.

According to Metro, West Bromwich Albion’s Peter Odemwingie is ready to leave the Baggies if a “top club” makes an approach. The Nigeria International was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last month and with Marouane Chamakh clearly not the answer for when Robin van Persie is not available, a striker is a must if we are to be competitive this season.

In other news, Eurosport reports that Lille striker Moussa Sow wants wants to leave the Ligue 1 champions for Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. The French-born Senegalese striker said, “I want to play at Arsenal, I think my game is best-suited to the Premier League. It is my dream and I want to be playing Champions League football.”

And before moving on to today’s poll, a look at yesterday’s results in which we collected more than 2,000 votes and with Liverpool’s Joe Cole getting a high number of negative votes from our readers and with Eljero Elia enjoying more than 800 positive replies.

As always, please let us know your preference on today’s linked players and don’t be shy to join the discussion in our newly-launched Arsenal forum.

  • Aly Taha says:

Sow already said he’s dreaming of playing for Arsenal though I doubt Lille will sell another one of their stars. Odemwingie isn’t leaving West Brom.

  • Reece says:

11.22% of people are obviously mentally impaired

  • George says:

We need a courageous player like peter odemwingie n arsenal squad, pls sign him and see changes

  • Plev says:

Why are we being linked with second rate strikers when it is clear that we need defensive and midfield reinforcements.
I think the absolutely PERFECT signing for Arsenal would be the Urugauyan captian Diego Lugano who plays for Fenerbahce. This man is a leader and an organiser, and dominated in the recent Copa America. He has heart and steel, is an absolutely quality defender who could walk into the Arsenal team as a starter or as back-up and do a job.
Also he wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg unlike the average EPL players were are constantly linked with. As he plays for a relatively average team that is not in Europe, he should be available for around 6mil and certainly under 10mil. At 30 he has the perfect balance of experience and a few good years left. It’s a no brainer.. And before people say he sounds like Squillaci, it couldn’t be further than the truth. If you’ve ever seen him play you will know what I’m on about.

  • Anthony Nwaokoro says:

arsene should pls sign peter odenwingie he is a class on his own. A fearless stricker who can confront and defender one on one he is full a pace and has eye for goal. Can play on the left or right wing, as a lone stricker or as a supporting stricker. And he is cheap and affordable scored 15 goals in a club like WBA what else do we want again from this gentle man?

  • aminu anyigba-nigeria says:

Buy us mousa sow. He is young, talented, goal hunger, determine n hv bn long dreaming to play 4 us. We dont need odewingie. If he hs interest 4 us, he would hv join us last season irrespective of d price.

  • Apoorv says:

Get Eden Hazard …. for sure .. .and a striker …. common wenger … this what we need this season

    • TheMonk says:

Mata…better than Hazard(who aint too bad)

  • Anthony says:

l wish Wenger would buy Osaze and Eden Hazard then Samba and Baines.l think this super four will add more spices and strenght to the club.

  • Edgems4 says:

Peter is class and would fit perfectly with the Arsenal youngsters…..Cahill and Samba pleeeeeeeeaseee……and if Wenger won’t,coupled by a very frail back,we lose against Liverfools,Udinese and Manure………No way out.

  • Wenger please buy osaze,cahill,samba,marvin,hazard and javier matinez.sir kbo2 m.shinkafa,bauchi-nigeria.

  • Skavorn says:

    Non of them
    They are both rubish tbh.

  • OTAJELE-NIGERIA says:

Pls Wenger get Osaze, Eden, mata and Cahill so that we can compete this season.
U must agree with me that this season is going to be tough than last season. Some has to be done fast.
Chamak is not adding anything to the squad, in d last match he was a total minus.
Is this how we intend to play this season? Mr Wenger do something for God’s sake.
I believe from the last match that Djouru and Gibbs are injured, who will replace them?????????????????
Wenger hear our cry for heeeeeeeeeeellllllllllllllllllllllppppppppppppp

  • T-rex says:

this is really embarrasing…we were light last season, what do we do? Sell our two best players…fair enough, nothing we can do about that…so what do we do….nothing! Wenger does NOTHING! And when we finally start to look at adding players we are talking about kevin doyle / odemwinge / sow to strengthen(?)….maybe we should strengthen our back four with steve bruce and while we’re at it spending the cash get Seaman in goal and Pele up front…seriously, Wenger buy some real players that adds value!!! Your inefficiency is going to cost us Cahill and Mata, players that actually would have made a difference. Adding a second rate striker does not add value, we need a top 25mln+ striker – the money is there –

ACT NOW, or we’ll be 6-7 in the league by xmas and Wenger out of a job by Feb next year…and we’ll have a 2yr rebuild period before we even have a shot at the champ league again…

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

I believe Cahill is going to Liverpool

  • bolaji says:

what else do we want? these are two proven goal scorers that are interested in joining us for cheap prices. wenger said he would buy quality when he sees one and i think these are quality players who are better than the current crop of players that play when RVP gets injured.quality and relatively cheap price was what wenger bargained for and here they are. Wenger should just make a move and metersacker should join for nothing.

  • belly says:

osaze will be a good buy if only mr wenger can buy him along with mata hazard and samba or cahill, we really needs this quality players or else all the rest of the goods players in our club will be thinking of going somwhere better next season………arise

  • Leonard says:

Please, please Wenger sign Odemwinge! He is the best and I can assure you Arsenal will start scoring goals that really matter!! Arsenal can not afford to be kicked out of Champions League as early as the preliminary stage, it will be a big shame I mean a shame of the season!!!!

  • paris86 says:

we would really rob Lille if we bougth all 3 of their best offensive players.
Moussa Sow is the answer for van Persie’s sub and is the player we need and not old like Odemwingie. if we buy him we only need one defender and midfielder – Hazard, Cahill, Samba, Valbuena, Elia, Mata, Gourcuff are all good choices.

  • Alexander says:

Just get Hazard,Sow,Martin and Cahil and we got a team for the title!!!

  • Kimathy says:

AW ,its lyk u want to finish the glory of arsenal by making us look weak and desperate…..u need to thnk fast….nkt!!!!

  • Gooner13 says:

Re-sign Anelka for a year, he wants out of Chelshite.

  • soccersurf says:

THIS IS THE LAMEST THREAD EVER. WHY EVEN BOTHER?
PETER O. SIGNED AN EXTENSION TODAY WITH BROM AND WENGER ISN’T BUYING ANYONE EXCEPT A RANDOM DUDE FROM BELGIUM WHO IS 16 MAYBE

  • ronke says:

well as a devoted gunners fan,i believe chamakh is now a liability, odemwinge wld b d beginning of good things 4 us nd 4 goodness sakes,y do r defenders sometimes behave like cripples.also, although i believe wenger is a good coach nd i have always defended him where necessary but he is beginning to get on my nerves.y would u buy small boys 2 play 4 a club like ARSENAL in d PREMIER LEAGUE which is d most competitive leauge.we need experienced players 4 crying out loud, its so not fair giving ur all 2 b a gunner 4 life nd then every weekend u c ur hopes go down d drain.we need to win.

  • CHIDI says:

lol. none of those deal are gonna happen. we fan are only building castles in the air…with the likes of lakuka, mata, in chelsea, chicharito, young, snelder, in man u, aguero, dzeko, nasri, balotelli, in mancinicity, i doubt if we are gonna get to champions leque next season. well gunners lets not lose hope… wit a fit wilshere, ramsey, rvp, gerv, wacot, arshavin, song, verm, koscieny, sagna, djourou….we can still shock the world. pls manager prove me right by signing a cahill or samba, hazzard, benzema or zarate. gunners for lyfe

  • ari says:

is it not the same Peter Odemwingie that has signed a new contract for westbrom? am sick and tired of all these mess. as for arsenal if they like they should not buy by the time they don’t go for champions league they will even spend more than what they should have spent to bring players cos no top class player will want to go to a club that is not going for champions league. so leave arsenal they would soon learn how to spend money when they can not even make it to the europa league.
