Wenger on Koscielny’s injury, admits Gunners are not close to new signings

Written by Jeffrey on August 21, 2011 – 15:30

The Gunning Hawk - ForumArsene Wenger

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was full of praise for his players after yesterday’s 0-2 defeat at home at the Emirates against Liverpool as he blamed the defeat on two offside decisions that went against the Gunners.

Speaking to Arsenal Player after the game, the Frenchman admitted that Emmanuel Frimpong’s red card changed the game as it came when the Gunners were on top of the game and ready to make substitutions to strengthen the offensive department.

On the back injury suffered by centre back Laurent Koscielny, the Arsenal boss declared that the Frenchman was out for two weeks the last time he suffered a similar injury meaning that he could miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against Udinese and Sunday’s Premier League game away against Manchester United.

Wenger concluded by saying that he understands the frustration of the fans as he revealed that his team is still working to bring new players but that it’s difficult and they are not close to sign anybody at the moment.

On Saturday, the manager said:

We played with the right spirit, with the right heart, I believe we were unlucky on both goals, it looks they were both offside but certainly the first was.

[Emmanuel Frimpong's red card] changed the game, of course, because we were just on top of the game and overall we were thinking to add some more offensive power but it was then difficult and on top of that we conceded an offside goal so it became very difficult.

[Laurent Koscielny?] I don’t know, he has an inflamed back and the last time he had that he was out for two weeks.

[The morale] is quite strong, the players are highly determined and they showed great spirit today. I feel that everything went against us in the last two games, it’s very difficult to analyse why but we are not very lucky with what’s happening to us.

[My message for the fans?] Who wouldn’t be frustrated when you lose two nil at home? The fans were great today and I just would like to thank them for their support. The team gave absolutely everything, we had eight players out today and it’s time to get some players back.

[New signings?] We try but it’s difficult to promise because we are not close to sign anybody at the moment.

Pls, be careful with ur choice of words. The same Wenger u disrespect will be snapped up by bigger teams like Real Madrid today if he says he is leaving Arsenal. Wenger has done well though things r not going the way it ought to go now, we r still better than the club that won us yesterday even with all the money they’ve spent. Mark my word ” WE WILL FINISH STRONGER THAN LIVERPOOL THIS SEASON EVEN WITH THE SQUAD WE CURRENTLY HAVE” In Wenger we trust.

    • jack says:

absolutely what i think.great comment.even with all those signings liverpool were shit for most of the game and despite all the injuries and youth we played better.that shows wenger understands football.its not his fault that all those players got injured together.and our squad is not really thin.we have only lost fabregas.and he did not play in so many matches last year which we won.we lost only because we got red card and had so many injuries.things would be fine soon

      • EZ Macdoom says:

Ha! The old “we played better than them, therefore it’s OK to lose” argument. Heard it for the last 7 years now, sick of it. We played without any penetration and were beaten because the manager is relying on 19 year olds in the heart of midfield and defence when he should have already signed a Cesc and Squillaci replacement. This team is the worst Arsenal team under Wenger, at a time when we have more money than ever before, and more importantly the fans are being charged more than ever before.

It’s obscene and will very soon create a divide between the board and fans which could become irreparable. This is lunacy of the highest order and makes no sense to anyone other than Wenger and his obstinate ego. BUY SOME EXPERIENCE YOU EGOMANIAC!

    • Jerry says:

Wenger has a way with words even with the obvious staring all of us in the face. All Arsenal fans should be prepared for the worst because this is just the beginning

    • Opiyo G.Levy says:

Wenger should take up the job of an Investments Manager at Barclays where the profit motive drives managers. At a football club, a managers preoccupation should be winning trophies. We dont mind how we win, all we need is a winning formula. That is what a football club is for. Any achievement is secondary. Its very hurting that this obvious objective eludes many football followers. Besides, no one is indispendible. Arsenal must accept that it is bigger than Wenger. I respect him so much for what he has achived, but when the law of deminishing returns sets in, it doesnt matter who, you will never change fate. That is the theory of nature

    • Saudi goooner says:

Is our goal to finish above Liverpool???????????? I feel bad for us because our ambetion should be winning the CL not finish above 6th or 7th place in the EPL :(

  • guuner 112 says:

what a joke, dsetroying an entire club, ignoring everybody,, i feel sorry for those who goes to the stadium,,,,why not boycot one game if you want that some change has to be made,,or you are crazy like hime watching bendner and frimpong

    • Charlie says:

Destroying the club ????? Don’t make me laugh, that’s THE most ridiculous comment that i’ve read all week. He has revolutionised the club for the better in countless ways. I can’t believe that some people liked this comment.

    • Rob Shumba says:

Are you made?Who was the best player before the red card? Why blame the young Frimpong when he was the only one putting a shift.IU think you should continue staying at home.

      • Donnie says:

        lol destroying the club
lets not forget he more or less has made arsenal the club we are
and for us fans to to want him out after 3 games in is kinda sad.

its not that simple its not bang we sign him him and him
if it was simple to be a football manager am sure we would all do it.

        • airiRin says:

I don’t think he wants Wenger out only based on this season performances. He wants Wenger out, I think, because Wenger is obsessed with youth project and don’t care about what the team needed.

Wenger doesn’t want to buy Mata and now Chelsea got him.

          • abbey says:

Do u know how many time chelsea has annouce they capture player, or have u forgot the case of Kaka, Aguero, Rooney and now Lukalu? Am not yet sure of Mata.

    • diehardgunnerfan says:

well said man,I really dont understand wat is in mind of AW still he is stubborn in signing the new player with so much space 2 be filled in midfield ,like u said fans must boycott a match so that wenger and the board will be in action in the transfer market

    • deluaro says:

As if the recent booing wasn’t bad enough now some goons want to boycott the matches. The frustration is understandable but lets not make the club look more unappealing to any potential signings.

    • goonerest says:

boycott a match. yeah with all the money they lose on the gate there bound to sign a super star. idoit!

      • GoonerForLife says:

Yeah, cuz we were signing sooooo many players before that -_-!!!!

  • Danish Gooner says:

What a joker !!! Not close, you have had 3 whole months to identify our weaknesses and still you cant get it done what a loser and tight fisted french wanker.

    • kelly says:

or just admit there is no money!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • Simon says:

No money? Let’s keep it simple – add the Fabregas and Nasri transfer money together – take off what he paid for Gervinho and Jenkinson. Wenger said he had a transfer kitty before those deals so by any reckoning he’s got at least 60 million.

        • Patrick O'Neill says:

Ah! but are you sure he has got the money yet from skint Barca, I doubt it.

        • Zigzag says:

we have not sold Nasri and Cesc money comes in installments so what’s your point?

          • Simon says:

My attempts to reply to this have been moderated despite the fact that they used no offensive language. Perhaps I was a little sarcastic but I couldn’t help it. Now I see the post above has five thumbs up! So let me have one more try. I’ll take your points one at a time

            1) “Cesc money comes in installments so what’s your point?”

No it doesn’t – only £5m is in “variables” – £30 up front. Barca president Sandro Rosell has provided full details of the deal if you care to actually look.

            2) Direct quote from Wenger “I will pay 30 [million] – I will even pay 40 if I find the right players. But it’s not a question of money, it’s a question of quality we find.” So what you’re saying actually contradicts Wenger himself. Kroenke said Wenger had plenty to spend even before Frabregas went.

            3) You’re right on one issue – Nasri is not gone…yet. Well done – the rest of us had failed to notice that. Most have factored in his departure given the obvious signs – perhaps you have better information? We’ll get somewhere around 20 million for him.

I stand by my estimate on 60 million although it may be substantially more.

    • Charlie says:

and now we’re resorting to name-calling of a man that has done so much for the club. How short memories are, and how small are some peoples’ brains. Wait til after the CL qualifier, most top players don’t want to play for a Europa League team but to explain that would put added pressure on his players for the match.

    • Francis Jay says:

Well said, perhaps Wenger should consider selling groceries like Mr.Arkwright, very similar personalities.

  • Judith Le'Strange says:

Why can Wenger never admit that the team were rubbish instead of saying this decision or that decision went against us. It’s his refusal to buy players to strengthen the team but insist on relying on the youngsters to replace the more mature players. But there are at least 6 or more players that should be shipping out or never be in the first team again but at least strengthen the back four, we have money from the Fabregas sale so spend some on Cahill and Dann or Cahill and Samba. We need strong players that can protect the goallie as well as a couple of defensive midfielders that can help protect. Walcott needs to start scoring as well as Chamakh who seems to go walk about during matches. Keep Nasri and play him in his correct position.

    • Andy Mack says:

You obviously didn’t watch the game.

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

I think Frimpong will be the new Viera – with Song as back up. It’s just that he’s young and headstrong, but wasn’t PV young and headstrong.

  • bergko says:

I think AW should stay and i disappointed that some fans are venting their fustration by booing the team.
I feel Arsenal have been very unlucky over the years since the move to the new stadium. Perhaps its down to bad FENG SHui or that the stadium is jinxed???

    • Haris says:

Whats unlucky in buying a player for 15M and for him only to be on the bench. Miyaichi too if they don’t play now then when??? only in the Carling Cup. Wenger has lost it!!! We had 8 players out and he still doesn’t play the new signings who are “super quality” wright?

      • Charlie says:

Miyaichi flew back from Japan on Thursday so he’s probably got jetlag (10hr time difference i think). As for Chamberlain the kid is 17, just maybe he’s not ready yet. Such sensationalism, calm down there’s easy explanations.

        • Jim says:

15M for a kid who can’t play in the Premier League yet, while the team is crying for experience and depth. Can’t you see that? He was a top Arsenal manager who brought us joy and success, but that was the past. Today, he’s just a deluded man who’s destroying our club. The death will be swift with him having undisputed power at the club.

        • Haris says:

Then why did he buy him??? if he is not ready and when is he going to be ready in 2, 3, 4, 5 years…. We need players who are ready NOW!!!

        • John says:

Great, now Chamberlin can have a good season at 19 and get sold to City by 20, and Wenger can buy another 17 year old and start the process all over again.

      • Mr Finch says:

Hey Haris, If it wasn’t for Wenger we wouldn’t even have Miyaichi. Do you think Fergie would know that there’s a young kid on the other side of the world who is going to be world class? What about Mancini? yet Wenger signs the kid while he’s still at school in Japan and yet you know better.

        • Haris says:

hahah, you are not really comparing Wenger to SAF??? Ferguson is the best manager, look at MU for the past 20 years or just look at the last 5 years and you will see amazing success and what about Chicharito??? he was brought just like Miyaichi and even though I love Ryo he still hasnt proven anything, can you say the same thing for Chicharito???

      • Andy Mack says:

        Where does 15m come from?

Maybe one day with all the add ons for winning the CL ….

        • Haris says:

          STUPID invested money.

The only player we brought from whom Arsene expect something this year is Gervinho.

  • Haris says:

He`s ridiculous. He buys players for them only to be on the bench!!! Why the hell did he pay 15M for a player that is only going to sit on the bench. He has lost it. Just leave Wenger…

    • bonje says:

Did you hear him say he was about to bring in offensive players b4 Frimpong got the red card?. Miyaichi and AOC wld av come on for Arshavin and Walcott and i believe the result cld have been very different.

      • Haris says:

How did Arshavin play in the first half??? A COMPLETE JOKE!!! then why didn he get off in the half break????? but no….AW believes in him so he let him be in there for 15-29 more minutes (by the way he wasnt better) and then brought him off.

The same is for Frimpong ??? Why didny he get off in the half timr or maybe 60th minute when everyone could see that he was close to a red!!!!

Wenger keeps making stupid mistakes that a little kid can see!!!

        • serge says:

          Frimpong had to stay on:
          1. Ramsey was jogging around like he was at a park
          2. Nasri had to stay up for the counter
          3. Lansbury is rubbish
          4. Miguel does not have the experience to leave his position to attack the midfield

Frimpong just shouldnt have gotten that first yellow card, thats it.

We would of finished with a draw.

          • Haris says:

yes, well you have a good point.

But it seems nobody can give a good explanation why we bought Alex, Joel and the others who are only going to be behind Arshavin, Chamakh and so on in the picking order.

            • Andy Mack says:

So you don’t think we should buy players for the future?

Admittedly we should be buying some fo now as well, but would you rather we only buy ‘for now’?

              • Haris says:

Well I think we should buy players who are from 23-29

Is Young for the future, is Kun Aguero for the future, is Dzeko for the future?, is Yaya Tourte for the future?, is Adam for the future? Downing? Suarez? Carroll? I can go like this for months….

And the answer is YES on all of them.

Players who are bvrough to play now and can/will play in the next 5-10 years…..Isnt that the future.

Believe me all those players will be at the club the same like Cesc was, like Nasri was, like Ade was, likeHleb was, like Flamini was…..

so all this players who you think are for future, well they are not because they leave when they are 24/25/26……

                • Haris says:

I should n have put Nasri in the list.

                  he is still a gooner.

                  • Arsenal1Again says:

No Haris, a Gooner is an Arsenal Fan, a Gunner is an Arsenal player. Nasri is still a Gunner.

                    • Chris says:

You can’t imagine what you just said and how true that is! :)

                    • frog says:

                      best comment ever. cheers

                    • Haris says:

hahaha oops, gunner :D there you go. All fixed

                • Andy Mack says:

What? Are you 11 or something? All the names you mention there are for NOW (even the ones that aren’t good enough for us!). That’s why they all cost a fortune!. Do you really think we should have bid 35m for carroll?
As for the Cesc/Hleb/Greedybarndor examples, remember, we sold them all for lots more than we bought them for. Flamini was the only one that got away after only one good season.
I’d guess you’re a new supporter as otherwise you’d know Hleb and Greedybarndor were ‘now’ players when we bought them. Unfortunatelt they were AWs mistakes, but no one’s saying he’s perfect, just better than any realistic alternative.

          • Patrick O'Neill says:

Frimpong is a kid and is headstrong – give him a break. PV got red cards too.

  • . says:

Wenger no signings, that makes me want to cry,10 days and we ain’t close to signings please wenger stop killin me.

  • arsenal norway says:

BEST BUY ARESENAL CAN HAVE NOW IS A NEW MANAGER!!

DEAR GOD IF U HEAR ME, GET THAT BLIND FRENCH MAN SACKED !!

    • Haris says:

I agree, the only way this club can go “forward” is by getting a new manager.

    • Andy Mack says:

Dear god, if you can hear me, get that know nothing ‘arsenal norway’ to support another team !

  • Daniel Wong( Hong Kong) says:

The n why spend ten million on an unknown kid.The money coild have been better spent getting the guys who could make a difference now not in five years.

    • Andy Mack says:

He’s not buying ‘instead of’ he’s buying ‘as well as’ but can’t find the right ‘as well as’!

And as for ‘not being close’, he will not tell anyone publically ‘how close’ they are. Arsenal never have and they never will. When he says we are close it means ‘all bar the signature’.

      • Rocky Jay says:

He can’t find a player? Guys..there is Juan Mata, a world cup winner, proven quality, 23 of age(so one for the future) just waiting to be taken and Wenger goes and signs AOC!
Why would he do that? Surely if its to save $5m then screw him!

        • Andy Mack says:

So you don’t think he tried to sign him?
The rumour is that he was ready to sign when the Chavs mentioned to him that they’d pay him double the salary.
AWs big on salary structure (and is happy for the structure to pay more) but signing 1 player on double the salary of RvP, Jack etc just causes team problems. t would also be a time-bomb for the FFP.
Which could easily mean that Clichy (hopefully not Nasri) doesn’t play in europe in 2 years time!

          This isn’t championship manager.!

  • hec says:

He is not close to signing anyone, thats O.K is it ? FROM TOMORROW you have 9 days before it closes to strengthen the team , the window is open for 92 days and you have 9 left and you say no one is close.
Wenger you get off your skinny arse and bring in some quality not a 17 year old for the future ,if not Wenger get on your bike and piss off.

  • WillyG says:

I am on the verge of wishing for Arsenal to lose to Udinese, if that’s the only way for the board to kick out this stubborn old mule.

    • Haris says:

Thats the bad thing. I feel no matter what happens Arsene will stay.

The board is as stupid as he is. BUT if we don’t make it in CL on Wednesday and finish 5th this year then there will be a lot less money and maybe then the board will let him go.

      • Andy Mack says:

So you think the best players will want to come to us without CL football.
        Clearly a ‘plastic’!

        • Haris says:

No, but are the best players coming now???

          • Andy Mack says:

Possibly. That’s what he’s trying for.

      • Patrick O'Neill says:

Amazing to think that Ancelotti got sacked for finishing 2nd.

      • Ziggy says:

what are you on Haris? whatever it is quit it, it makes you unbearably stupid. you know NOTHING but you slag off the only guy who can get us out of present predicament. You have no idea what goes behind the scenes at the club.

    • Jules says:

WillyG, The board will NEVER kick wenger out. And Wenger will NEVER walk out. This current board we have realise that there are teams of superior financial power competing for trophies. But trophies is not on their agenda. Football is now only a business. And wenger is the best businessman out there, but not the best manager. As long as wenger keeps getting champions league football, as long as players are bought and sold for large profits, and as long as attendances at the emirates are high the board will do NOTHING, absolutely nothing but count their money.

Players like Mata,Cahill,Hazard,Benzema,Alonso,Baines,Falcoa,VDV all would of made a huge difference yet we decided not to buy these players. Manu spend £50 million on players they dont even need. You dont want to spend a possible £60 million generated from sales on players we do need.

I love wenger for what he has done for this club. But in football love is short lived. The past can only save you for so long. Wenger will be a hated man in many eyes if he does nothing. But there is still time..

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

You will get your wish, 2-0 to Udinese, sadly

  • sam says:

and neil warnock said he won’t to buy 4 or 5 players.
no one wants arsene to be sacked but abuse of power and such stubborness is turning him ugly, his presence is becoming more and more intolerable.

  • steve says:

“GET RID OF THAT POOR EXCUSE OF A MANAGER, ARSENE WENGER BEFORE IT’S
TO LATE”. THIS GUY IS DESTROYING OUR CLUB,AND TIME IS RUNNING OUT.
“UP THE GUNNERS,AND OUT WITH WENGER”.

  • bc says:

David blunkett could identify our weaknesses man. for crying out loud our weakness is experience and your lack of a winning mentality. 5 trophy winning seasons out of a possible 14 compare that to george.grahams 5 out of 9 then u can see he is not as good as even graham was let alone to be mentioned in the same breath as ferguson.

    • Andy Mack says:

Graham wasn’t a bad manager, but if he’d had to manage us through the stadium change then we’d probably be in the championship now (if not we’d be being compared with blackburn !). I was there most weekends during that time and it was rarely entertaining at all. You endured it for the odd win (a lot less than under AW, although admittedly, more important wins than we’ve had recently) and the chance to have a beer (hopefully in celebration) with your mates.

  • Muhd says:

Arsene shld listen 2 our cries and worries for his inability to strengthen despite pre-season promises. He should pls keep to his promise to our happiness.

  • buky says:

u know what, am really tired ov dis manager. (not close to…..) wat da f*****

  • ken says:

    TO ALL ARSENAL FANS
Open your minds for a few minutes and listen to me. Forget for a moment that you are anti-Wenger OR Pro- Wenger, or AKB, or Wenger-hater.
Just listen (do not take it textually) to the following:
    1. A couple months ago there was a post which circulated and it mainly hinted that Wenger was given another year by the board for his youth project.
    2. A couple of weeks ago Hill-Wood said that it was very probable that AFC will not win any trophy this year again.
    3. Last week Wenger and Hill-Wood again said we are going to spend if we find the right players (they said the same thing Last year and in January 2011).
    4. Yesterday Wenger told the press that buying players will not necessarily bring about a winning team.
    5. We also have to remember that Stan was in London around one month ago for a special meeting. On the agenda was the issue to discuss the financial risks associated with investing on high priced players.
    6. The timing for selling Fabregas and that for Nasri runs down to the final weeks of the transfer window.
    7. Deals for Cahill, Mata, Hazard, etc have run out of favour as the window is soon to close.
This is a perfectly calculated scenario. However what was not foreseen was the long injury list. The replacement of Fabregas by Ramsey, backing up of Song by Frimpong, replacement of Bendner by Ryo Miyaichi has all been planned in detail by Wenger.
The master plan also consists of players (even Vermalen) boasting to win the title this year (as they do every year) and each one at a time gives a declaration to the press about their commitment to the team, their dedication and that they also feel they are ready to step up. That is all ok except that in reality they are not ready, they have no dedication and they do not need to lie to fans who are paying for their salary. They should show their dedication on the field, their ability when playing against tough opponents and most importantly they cannot assure us of their strength through their mouth.
THAT’S WHAT WENGER DOES WEEK IN AND WEEK OUT. He gives us a verbal assurance of the team’s ability and once the players are on the field they fail lamentably. THEY ARE DOOMED TO FAIL BECAUSE WENGER IS MORE WORRIED ABOUT THE BUSINESS MODEL THAN THE FOOTBALLISTIC PERSPECTIVE. THE BOARD IS MORE INCLINED TOWARDS KEEPING THE MONEY SAFELY IN THE BANK THAT SPENDING IT IN REBUILDING THE TEAM.
Players have been brought in this year, but they are meant for the business model, i.e Campbell, Chamberlain are investments just like Fabregas. Around 15 million for each one, we are not even sure if they will one day be worth more than has been invested. Why? BECAUSE the plan is about making money and you have to invest and take risks to get high dividends afterwards. So this type of transaction is very easy at Arsenal but the other one buying strong and already made players will never be on Wenger’ and the board’s agenda.
SO THERE IS ONLY ONE THING WE CAN DO AS FANS IF WE WANT OUR TEAM TO LAND IN THE TOP FOUR THIS YEAR (WE SHOULD NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT WINNING THE TITLE NOW). WE HAVE TO HURT THEM AT THE PURSE LEVEL. WE HAVE TO REFRAIN OURSELVES TO GO THE EMIRATES HOWEVER MUCH THAT HURT US AS FANS. THEY HAVE TO GET THE MESSAGE: “AFC WILL LOSE MORE MONEY IF THEY DO NOT SPEND SOME FUCKING MONEY AND REPLACE THE DEPARTING PLAYERS WITH QUALITY’’.
WE ALL HAVE TO BE ON THE SAME WAVELENGTH (AKB, ANTIWENGER, LIFE LONG SEASON TICKET HOLDERS, OPTIMISTS ETC). WE HAVE ONLY 10 DAYS REMAINING. WE HAVE TO ACT NOW.
LETS’ STOP THE BOOING, WE MUST NOT AIM AT THE PLAYERS BUT AT THE ASS HOLES WHO ARE ONLY INTERESTED WITH THE PROFITS. EVEN THEN, THEY DO NOT HAVE TO SPEND OUT MONEY FROM THEIR POCKETS BUT WHAT WAS PLANNED TO BE INVESTED IN REINFORCEMENTS THIS SEASON.
SO GUYS LETS DO IT, IT IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO CONVINCE THOSE GREEDY BASTARDS OF OUR OWN COMMITMENT TO THE TEAM, TO ARSENAL FC (the football club , not the cash machine).
Thanks to all those who understand. And those who do not , please do not try to call me a fool etc, you simply cannot, I hold bagful of qualifications and certifications. All that I have written is sensibly right and is a rational deduction and forecast based on events that have marked me as an AFC fan since 1970.
Please help me relay this message to all our friends and to all AFC fans that we know.

    • maurigunner says:

Well written dear friend, I live far from London(in the Indian Ocean) , Arsenal fan for more than 30 years and assure you that if I was a regular Emirates ticket holder I will have followed your views from going to watch them.

    • Arsene knows says:

There is no ‘board’ only silent stan who is now the ‘owner’ and can do what he wants and arsene… Arsene famously said “I don’t buy stars – I make them” which is true, the problem is the stars leave and the players he buys who don’t become stars stay (on stars wages) or nobody wants to buy em so we are left with the dross and new ‘intakes’ of potential stars, and stan? What does he know? And Ivan? A corporate muppet whos only talent seems to be putting up big posters on our stadium!

It’s the beginning of the end

    • Arsenal1Again says:

“I hold bagful of qualifications and certifications.”

But you can’t structure a novel like this into paragraphs. I don’t believe you. You have what is known as BPD (Borderline-Personality Disorder).

You have zero way of knowing what was on the agenda when Kroenke flew into London. a month ago.

Until your perceived failures of the Board take place, which can’t happen before Midnight 31 August, and many of them before May next year (there’s another transfer window in January) … you ought to LOOK before you leap.

Punish people when they’ve done something, not because you IMAGINE it is going to happen.

    • Andy Mack says:

‘All that I have written is sensibly right and is a rational deduction and forecast based on events that have marked me as an AFC fan since 1970′.

No it’s not. It’s paranod drivel.

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

I would not call you a fool and I’ve been a fan since just before you 1966 (oh those heady days when I first came to London from Ireland). What you say is quite correct. AW should be a Manager, he is not the CEO. When SAF wants a player he identifies him and takes no part in the financial negotiations. Why does AW need to get involved in this. The problem is that AW is too big for his boots. He needs a Board to kick is Arse. But they won’t do this because he is making them plenty of brass. The Board and AW are thick as thieves. You are right, much as it hurts to hurt the Club ALL fans should stay at home on Saturday and see how long Silent Stan stays “Silent”. And also Lady B-Smith needn’t carp on about the Board, she sold her shares to Stan instead of the Russian who has about 10 times the amount of money.

Also, one more point, if AW is point to the Fair Play Rules, the likes of ManC, ManU and Chelsea will just laugh in the face of UEFA because they know that money talks and UEFA don’t have the balls to throw any of these out of the CL if they don’t play to the rules. So AW forget the Fair Play Financial Rules – they won’t exist!!!!!

  • Muhd says:

Why on earth are we arsenal fans? It’s just for the beautiful game they’ve been playing for years but it has now become thing of the past. It’s time we bid Arsene fare well nd go for aggressive one.

  • sam says:

ok one more chance for wenger at least he should do the right thing

SACK ARSHAVIN AND STOP PLAYING VAN PERSIE AS A LONE STRIKER.
his current formula is killing the team performance, although we had a weak link in the midfield(ramsey) nasri and frimpong tried hard to raise the game but the attack was absolutely rubbish because the french tactian love playing people out of their position for his own ego.
IF WE STICKING WITH 4-3-3 THEN VAN PERSIE SHOULD PLAY ON THE LEFT WALCOTT/GERVINHO THEN BUY A REAL CENTER FORWARD MR TIGHTFISTED FRENCH TWAT PLEASE. ADEBAYOR/TEVEZ/FALCAO/BENZEMA/HULK we don’t care. just spend some f**kin* money and bring someone to lift your weak strikers they dont intimidate any defence. we only scored one goal in 3 games. arsenal problem is really in attack, if we had real strikers that could score 3 goals we would have walk home with 3 points.

  • ozed says:

You guys behave like you started following Wenger this season. Last time Wenger said no signing was close , he signed oxlade chamberlain a few days later. Also recall he said at the begining of the window that most of the action would happen in the last days. Expect one or two signings before wednesday.

    • frog says:

agreed. we all know that everything arsene says in a press conference is pure bulls**t. i dont even read or listen to what he says anymore because its all smoke and mirrors. i think its hilarious how worked up people get over his “comments”. lets just wait till the window closes before we stone him to death.

  • true arsenal fan..omg says:

afta reading all these foolish responses…..im even more convinced now that what arsenal really needs is….sensible..loyal..supporters..jeez!

  • Nick says:

anyone believe we are actually negotiating with Real to take Kaka on a year loan?

  • Mohamed Ali says:

Wenger lost his brain and is becoming a real danger to Arsenal present and future. It is already too late and is making it impossible for his successor to do anything as the transfer window close in days and that is a very wicked thing to do. By doing nothing members of te board who are milking Arsenal are also responsible in this crime . Arsenal Fans should stand up to salvage their Club today before tomorrow .

  • biu keme says:

i felt pain ystaday and i neva knew when tears came out 4rm my eyes. Oh wenger, my pride, my strength. Plzz wenger bring bak d joy 2 d arsenal fans. We need u now 2 act fast

  • maurigunner says:

What I will write will shock some of you but it’s my feeling right now. I”m really HAPPY for yesterday’s defeat cause just think of what would have been AW arrogant comments if only we drew with Pool. This would surely be ” I’m proud of this team, we hold Liverpool and I think we should not buy new players”. But to be honest, I don’t think this defeat hurt AW, he continues to believe in his young squad without thinking of the fans but only to inflate shareholder’s pocket . Believe me dear friends, we WILL NOT have quality signings before Aug 31or may be one or two from french ligue 2 for the future and as soon as they become famous being sold to Citeh, Chelski, Manu or Barcellona to inflate shareholder’s pocket.

    • Andy Mack says:

AW would never say that he’s not looking for new players.
If he’s ever said it before, it would have been because he didn’t have any money.
He’s always looking for ‘quality’, and that’s where the problem lies.
In the past when he’s said he’s interested in someone it becomes open season for the’cheque book’ managers to come in with ridiculous offers and ‘gazump’ us.

  • Gooner13 says:

Whatever AW says, believe the opposite. The “I won’t quit” comment, means he’s considering or considered it yesterday.

    My predictions:

    1. No new signings

    2. Nasri stays (on a free next summer, he’ll get to name his price, why settle for Manshitty now?)

    3. Wenger gone by January

I hope I’m wrong on all.

  • kola oba says:

why are u all borthering urself. Anyone dat believe in AW when he says anything wil giv himself hypertension. AW is having over 50m at his disposal now,he is not ready to spend it. And he’s watching d club crumbling and he’s not doing anything abt it. If i were a woman, i can never marry him, bcos he’s too stingy. Come to think of it. The money at his disposal, is it his own? As strong as manu is, they are stil buying good players. Let alone you that has not lifted a trophy in the last six yrs. You are stil relying on all your ‘young shall grow’ . If we are stil interested in trophies,AW must be sacked.

    • frog says:

hahahaha!! youre thinking about marrying arsene wenger ? some of these posts are so ridiculous. do you people forget that arsenal are a football club who play a GAME! get a grip people. “i wouldnt marry him because hes stingy” hahahahahaha nut job!

  • ivor says:

Well its does matter if arsenal win any matches this year…am jst starting to hate watching any of our match either we play a big team or not i just dont have that confident cos there is no assurance prove to me we r actually going to win, thus, i have stop watching any arsenal match either on the tv or at the emirate until thing good signing all arsenal fans has arrive…but my act is not a matter of supporting the manager or not. I jst hate to see arsenal beaten. Bt i accept with ppl here who suggest we should jst stop going to emirate til those winners arrive.

  • John says:

The best thing for Arsenal is Usmanov taking charge and sacks majority of the current board and re-instates David Dien and gives his son a role at the club. New manager or keep Wenger the fact remains the problems are at boardroom level will still be there, with Chairman in PHW who has too much power and influence and too negative for the club. Gazidis will still be in charge of transfer negotiations and showing how average he is such as him travelling half way around the world in the summer to talk about transfer targets and being shown up time and time again by David Gill on how to make a transfer in the European transfer market. The dark negative feeling I have is that Arsenal are being used to fund Stan the mans American sports clubs.

    • Andy Mack says:

You mean they should get rid of Stan. The same Stan that Dein brought to the club.
      Interesting.

You should watch the BBC interview with Dein.

  • Ray says:

We played with the right spirit, with the right heart. [The morale] is quite strong, the players are highly determined and they showed great spirit today. The team gave absolutely everything.
    - compare with the invincible team players, I really cannot see that in the first two matches against Newcastle and Liverpool.

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

AW should have looked at RVP’s face and then realised there was no spirit in the team.

  • true ARSENAL fan..007 says:

what’s up with you lot, you have become very greedy fans .
you forget we have a depth to pay up. and I don’t think we are far of just doing that
and you will see the £30 mi players coming in.
we have never bean far of of wining the title for the last 3 years.
we have bean luffing at other clubs for spending far to much and getting f*** all in return .
you have forgotten the records ARSENAL & A/W have bean breaking .
well this is a new team and keep supporting any one plays for ARSENAL team,or sell me your season ticket and p*** of .
some players are GREEDY , well you know what happens to them when they leave. ARSENAL.

  • pat says:

  • KC says:

This is all b*llocks…….. all this crap about “we forget what Wenger has achieved” ….football is about NOW not about who did what 7 years ago or 10 years ago…. get it into those dumb skulls of yours that Wenger has failed to produce anything in the way of success for 7YEARS. At any other real top class cllub with any real ambition would have sacked Wenger after 3 years of failure!

The crap being spouted about the first 2 EPL games of this season is amazing, all the Arsene lovers are working overtime in these blogs making out that Wenger has a big plan and that it is all bad luck that is causing our problems. Utter B*llsh*t, the problems are caused by us having too many average or lower than average players, too many youngsters being used and depended on by Wenger, too few World class players in the side, too few EPL standard players in the squad, too little investment by the board and Wenger.

What is really happening is that Wenger has sytematically turned us into a club who is now rated by most and spoken of in the same terms as Everton, Villa, Sp*rs, Liverpool with the same expectancy that we will be only capable of challenging for the 4th UCL place at best.

Until all of you blind faith fools wake up from your dream state….. all we will see is another season of inane excuses from Wenger. blaming everyone else from the bar staff to the conspiracy of referees, while he makes mistake after mistake, with the result that we shall not be good enough for 4th place but drop down further to the unthinkable levels of mid table mediocrity….. then we shall see the real difficulty in persuading top class players to come to the emerates.

Sadly I believe that when finally Wenger goes when everyone has woken up to his real lack of ability and he is removed from managing the team …..any new manager will have the unenvieable task of rebuilding a side devoid of any top players and coherance…. in fact I think we will struggle to get anyone of any quality to take the job because of this. But until then we have another season of putting up with Wenger and his crap WHAT a nightmare to think about.

It is already too late for this season but WAKE UP AND GET WENGER OUT NOW so that we can get someone in to salvage something from this mess and to begin the task of getting us back to the top where we belong.

    • Andy Mack says:

      “football is about NOW”

Maybe now we better than Spurs, but will we still better than Spurs at the end of the season?

  • Oliver says:

My advice to arsenal fans in Uk is to boycott home matches so that aw play his team in an empty stadium. They should also stage a demo as man u fans did against the glazers some yrs back.

  • WrightyMightyMan says:

13 points from last 13 games. Relegation form.

Sold one of the best players in the world for peanuts (relatively speaking) when he had 4 years left on his contract.

Sold our left back & won’t replace him cause it’ll ‘kill the career’ of his understudy who can’t stay fit for 3 games in a row. Hence we have Sagna now playing at LB & a player who was playing in the conference last season at RB.

Admitted last season we needed a proven EPL defender, has had all summer to buy one. Hence we had to put on a 17yr old when Kozza got injured.

    Spends 15m on a 17yr old who’s only ever played in League1.

Will sell Nasri & NikB this week to the tune of 30m & will not replace either of them.

It just beggars belief that any Gooner can still defend him.

WENGER OUT, GAZIDIS OUT, KRONKE OUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • mm says:

    guys check these out..

    http://www.thefootballnetwork.net/main/s378/st170548.htm

    time to whack the board..

    • frog says:

if what that piece says is true, and i dont know if it is, we”re in a lot deeper poop than we thought. It does make sense however, and i think arsene wenger will do everything in hbis power to make this club a success. the board on the other hand, will not. all this angst aimed at wenger is ridiculous. he is a gunner and a gooner through and through( thanks for that Arsenal1again !!) , we need to stop blaming arsene for everything and start drilling silent stan and the rest of the BOD.

  • ITG says:

Wenger is not in charge of transfers – it is obviously the board. That is why they will sanction a youngster like Chamberlain as he does not demand high wages. The board have totally messed up this summer as Wenger told them who he wanted in and out and they have failed to act or to change a wage structure which is much lower than at least six other Premiership clubs. Implosion is on the way unless the board sanction buying really good players and pay the wages they demand. As for SAF he was able (on debt) to pay Rooney last year double his wages to keep him. This move was denied Wenger.Kroenke and Gazidis both really need a reality check and both should examine their conscience for he disgraceful way they have let Wenger take the flak for their failings. If I were Wenger I would leave now and go to Real Madrid of PSG where he can once again prove that he is one of the best coaches in the world. There is no way he will be allowed to do it at Arsenal as his power base of past successes (David Dein) is no longer available to him for support.

  • segun says:

you are right, bcos buying young player is not problem but ability to keep them when they are geting to age of 23 24 the same story will start again wenger and board should just stop deceiving fans they are just enriching their pocket if they are serious at all let them flash back to 97 up to 2003 and see kind of player wenger use to win trophy the problem is board i know if not board by now wenger will not be at arsenal just take chelsea for example if you are manager you spend big and your team did not perform well you know the result my advice to all arsenal fans take to heart

  • Jimbo says:

we will be alright this season, stop panicking like drama queens this isnt eastenders we are a well respected well run club
yes Wenger is to blame for some stuff but is also responsible for changing this club for the better for ever
    chealsea were shit for years
man city have one one trophy in about 40 years
liverpool spent nuff havent won league for over 20 years
tottenham spent nuff think they won the carling cup in the nineties
man u didnt win the league for 26 years in loads of debt but fair play they have been successful
you haters need to grow up and support your team and your manager
maybe we dont set the world alight this season and we can cull some of you fair weather muppets
Football is as much ,if not more about disapointment than utter joy, just like life ,but you stick with your team and show your commitment thru thick and thin cos it means something.

  • Bouba says:

I don’t think we could go forward by changing manager at the beginning of the season, that’s just madness…

Arsene Wenger has the keys to improve this squad… In the back of his mind, he is thinking about the injured players who are coming back… But he is not thinking about the future injuries ( RVP for sure and Rosicky/ Gibbs always )…

As always we will be short at some point.

We have 10 days left and he is trying to bring players on loans ( check l’Equipe ) as he could easily make a few bids ( serious bids, not cheap and silly ones ) in his tender France…

The fact is we need bodies ( quality? may be ) as soon as possible…

Another fact is, with this squad and the track record we have with injuries, this season might, just might, turn into a catastrophe… Forget about the top4 ( the only objective we have managed to achieve in 6 years ), we will be scrubbing for a UEFA space if we are lucky.

    Let’s keep it real here…

  • jay says:

so chelsea just got mata for far more than we coulsve gotten him for…. dont even know what to say other than i feel devastated

    • loui says:

The problem is the boad. dont just put the blame on arsen…..

  • segun says:

it’s a pity that mr jimbo did not understand what we are saying we are not compair arsenal with chelsea arsenal is bigger than chelsea anyway what i’m saying is that wenger and the board need to change their metally let me give an example as a president in particular nation introduce a policy that did not have effect on mass for period 6yrs do you think the president will contiune to be in power without change the policy no no things must change in arsenal team ,arsenal should’t be aclub that raise player for club like man city barc we need to buy manture player that is what we are saying i’m gunner for life

  • steven says:

the board or arsene i dont know who do the transfers are trying to sign new faces, its just that the player that wenger wants are to get or unavailable. wenger as bid between 25 and 30 mil euros on yann mvilla and thats a fact for yann mvilla but his club refused ! i got this info from the french tv who are more reliable than the british press who only want fans to turn there back on their team by claiming that (M’Vila, who has two years left on his contract, would be available for a reported £10m) which is bullsh..t! just wanted to say!!! wenger cant be as dumb as people are trying to make you believe…and he knows his team aint ready as of yet …

  • mick says:

I was having a good night until i read that chelsea signed Mata. Discraseful :I

  • josh says:

i think our major problem dis season will be d choice of v p as captain.in d last 2matches he felt over responsible 4 d team, going back 2 make clearance and running forward will easily dehydrate him.i would have prefered vermelean as d captain cos nt so many big clubs give there captaincy to a forwarder and he will drive d team from d back.on signings,i think we need 1player each from each level i.e a defender,a central midfielder and a striker.wenger shd go if we have a bad season again.

Now I dont have the habit of posting and writing and stuff, BUT
Am sick and tired of everything That everybody does or says to hurt AFC Club , Managers, Players ans so on.
Some people need to hear what even saying or suggesting.
I know as a club we are going through some hard times , BUT if you feel that we will dissappear , WE WONT.
What we need is all of US to get behind THIS club, behind The Mnagare, behind The Players, instead of using ourselves a fifth falanx to destroy that Club.
Years of blood sweat an tear to be where we are today.
Juts imagine been like that within our family’s.
People make mistakes and poepl do things, That is been happening through the centuries, and will still happening for years to come, and after we gone AFC will still be here.
Time to support instead of crusifying, everything THAT rerpresents AFC.

  • Matt says:

Some of the posts on here amaze me. Having watched football (Arsenal) since I was 5 thats 50 years of supporting the club through bad times (I never saw the club win a trophy for the first 12 years of my support and good (the GG years which were a lot better footballing wise than a lot of people would have you younger supporters believe – sure we won 1-0 at times when we had to, but we played with class and excitement and were successful there was no other way when you had the likes of Limpar, Ian Wright, Rocastle, Thomas, Marwood, Seaman, Bould Adams Dixon Parlour Merson etc) , and all through to the current time I watched through rain snow and shine all over the country and in europe.

One prevailing problem has always haunted Arsenal managers and that is never being encouraged to buy / spend the money necessary to keep building to keep us at the top. GG suffered it as did Terry Neil wHen he was manager and we lost Brady and Stapleton because we would not pay them the wages that Inter(Brady) and Man U(Stapleton) would pay. Before that it was losing Ray Kennedy, Charlie George etc

Now its the same but with the twist that our current manager Wenger actually AGREES with the board instead of standing up and saying “for gods sake we have to be able to pay top dollar for players of quality and Experience if we are to get back to the top level”…..this is the REALITY because trust me not matter what bull is spouted by Wenger or anyone else, we are no longer part of the top level of the EPL and certainly not Europe.

Wenger says look at the players he has bought in to see the quality??? OK so he added Henry, Vieira, Pires, Edu, Petit, Overmars in his early years…… but in the last few years what have we seen arrive at the club – the likes of Chamakh, Ksocielny, Squillachi, Eboue, Denilson, Diaby. Bendtner, Cygan, Senderos, Djourou, Almunia, Fabianski can you honestly believe his statement when you look at this list??? Sure he hit on a couple of good ones…Vermaelen, Nasri, Szeczsney….and the jury is still out on Arshavin (who I think has lost heart in Wenger and the side when he failed to see any signings that improved the squad & Gervinho who may be ok but looking at him at the moment I am not sure …. in a top squad he might flourish but with our current one?????

Why also does Wenger persist in speding money on young (prospects) ahead of experienced quality (Chamberlain, Jenkinson, Campbell) we need to concentrate on the now and get the squad built up NOW! Sure the future is important, but Wengers concentration on the future means that there is never going to be a now, it will always be a concentration on bringing in prospects for the future!

Wenger says all the words that you would normally hear a manager who is in mid table say…. we are hoping to bring in players to help boost the squad….. but Wenger has blatently lied about this consistently for the last 4 years at least and I have little faith in his ability to do any better in the last few days of transfers….maybe a panic buy may happen to try and shut us supporters up for a while, but it will not change the fact that we are looking at a season where for once we shall be struggling to stay in the top have of the league not the top 4.

Wenger always uses the excuse of player injuries and bad referreeing decisions, but all teams have injuries, however I do question as to why when we let Clichy go (and why did he go so cheaply??), we do not sign another left back rather than gamble on a player who has a record of being injury prone (and he is out again at the moment….sad as it is he must be replaced and another top full back brought in as Traore is not the answer.

Things will improve slightly when Wilshire returns, but he Vermaelen VP and maybe Szeczsney are the only bright spark in a sea of mediocrity….. but that is not enough to keep us in the top 4 let alone win the league….. that I believe can only happen when the shock hits the board financially and Wenger is replaced!

    • Berk Face says:

I agree with everything you say. I haven’t really seen the bad times as an Arsenal fan – born 1979 (a great year)

    • Patrick O'Neill says:

      Don’t forget Igor Stepanovs!!!!!!

  • inn says:

Wenger’s comments are nonsensical, The team was useless for the whole 90mins plus extra minutes. He cant say the sending off was the deciding factor. He has to stop this stibborness. I foresee a situation whereby we will finish 6th in the Premiership this season and be relegated to Europa! Oh what a mess that Wenger is in. His love for money means that he cant see the danger he is putting the team and fans into. I says almost two years ago that oen of the biggest problems we have at Arsenal is Arsena Wenger himself, and now we are at it!

  • Bill says:

We played with good spirit and we were a little unlucky – i think I heard that quote played over and over again towards the end of last season. Reality is that we need some quality players to be drafted in otherwise we will be battling with Bolton, Wigan and Everton and not with Man U, City or Chelsea. Poor form by a man who is totally out of touch with what’s going on.
If we remain with the current squad, Wenger will not see the end of September – now that’s reality.

  • Berk Face says:

“[Emmanuel Frimpong's red card] changed the game, of course, because we were just on top of the game and overall we were thinking to add some more offensive power”

    - ahh the old Bendtner on the wing 72 mins substitution that really cranks up the pressure

Frimpong’s first booking was the stuff of pure stupidity – but he shows promise overall

  • Jamie says:

Wenger & Co promised signings, and they already delivered their promise by signing Gervinho, Campbell and Jenkinson. I think that’s already more than enough for the club eyeing to at least a Champions League place.

Arsenal were title contenders for more than a decade, but now with more players leaving and more rubbish quality players coming in at cut price, I can see where’s Wenger bringing the club to – to absolute oblivion.

He’s stubborn, He thinks those French defenders can be another Adams-Keown combination. Perhaps he’s past his best. Can’t even cut a deal with an unknown quantity like Campbell, and now that Mata is joining Chelsea, all I can see is another French rejects coming to be our savior.

No, he’s no more Mr Economics. He likes to buy cheap and try to turn them into superstars, but I don’t think you can produce every Sagna or Van Persie every season.

  • focus says:

Attacking “pretty” football, young players with as huge bags of potential… Great cheap signings that have been sold on to huge profits. Arsenal have been contenders every year yet we are something like 7th for transfer spends over the last 10 years. Soon Arsenal will be DEBT FREE.. how many other clubs can say that? Especially after building a huge stadium so recently. Fifa fair play rules come in and suddenly Arsenal look golden.

At times like these we need to pull together and support our team! I have read reports that the board refuse to increase the wage budget – so we can’t pay players the same as other clubs – especially champions league clubs!

We have alot to be positive for… we were unlucky against liverpool I think, 2 – 0 makes them look alot better than they were. Arsenal fans slag off Nasri for being a traitor, yet where is the loyalty to Wenger, who has SACRIFICED THE SHORT TERM FOR THE LONG TERM OF THE CLUB!!
