[Rumour Rater] Arsenal Transfer News, 28/08: Park Chu-young and Adam Johnson

Written by James on August 28, 2011 – 4:45

The Gunning Hawk - ForumLeighton Baines

Just like last season, The Gunning Hawk will bring you every day throughout the summer one article with the most creative and sensational Arsenal transfer rumours. To know more about this section and for how long it will be online, kindly visit our forum.

August 28

South Korea’s captain, aged 26 as well as a Manchester City winger are today’s players linked with a possible move to Arsenal.

According to BBC, so a very reliable source, the Gunners are close to secure the services of Monaco’s 26-year old striker Park Chu-young. It seems that the South Korean was very close to signing for France Champions Lille but president Michel Seydoux revealed that the player could be in London to sign for Arsenal with the French side clearly not happy with Arsenal this summer after they lost Gervinho earlier this summer.

In other news, Sports Vibes believes that a £14m offer will be made for Manchester City’s Adam Johnson, next week. The Gunners sold Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri to City this summer and with the former Middlesbrough, apparently, no longer in Roberto Mancini’s plans.

And before moving on to today’s poll, a look at Friday’s poll in which we collected more 4,000 votes and with our readers giving very high votes to both Bastian Schweinsteiger and Leighton Baines even if the former could be cup-tied for the Champions League.

As always, please let us know your preference on today’s linked players and don’t be shy to join the discussion in our newly-launched Arsenal forum.

I’ll be glad to see johnson at emirates.

    • alie says:

I will be sad if this is just a news and it will never b a reality..Adam Johnson, that would be a fantistic signing…grate player in the making….Go for him plz

    • Northbanksy says:

Can’t see Man City selling to Arsenal. Their game plan seems obvious…weaken serious rivals Arsenal by buying their players (Adebayor, Toure, Clichy, Nasri) & strengthen Spurs by loaning them players who’s wages Spurs couldn’t normally afford by subsidising them (Adebayor & Bellamy) . The loanees can’t play against Man city so it doesn’t effect them.

  • Rocky Jay says:

surely adam johnson is valued at way more than 9m!
he is quality. I just do not see why Mancini would not wanna play him!

  • mzeey says:

when will the Rumours stop and the signing start its geting on my nerve hazard is the most linked player with us and evry article that has his name is read by thousand in no time we want hazard as arsenal fans we have spoken do what it takes , you will make your profits in no time shart sells will cover it the bigest arsenal singing ever the media on that belive me when i tell you bringing him to arsenal is biger the bringing kaka plus we need a few more eor a strong bench so we can compet chu is a good start.

  • Jason says:

I have always see Adam Johnson as a ready made replacement for Nasri. He has strong left foot with decent strike. He will be in great success in Arsenal. With current squad Walcott, Arshavin, Gervinho, and both Miyaichi, Chamberlain as future stars of Arsenal, the winger position will be Arsenal’s greatest asset. Most important part is, Johnson is an English player.

Never expect Wenger will move for Park Chu Young. It is understandable why Wenger take him in as both Gervinho and Chamakh will leave for African Nation Cup and Bendtner is leaving us in the transfer window. Park can be a good second striker or even a sub for Van Persie. His price tag is very much suits on Wenger style too.

  • kyung says:

Not many ppl know this, but Park spent many years of his youth in Brazil. And while there, his coach encouraged him to acquire Brazilian nationality (which he denied) due to his excellent football skills. And anyone who has watched his play at last year’s Worldcup, wouldn’t disagree with then-Brazilian coach. Just like the another Park, Park plays his best in big games. I guarantee Hawks will not be disapointed.

  • ODEY SOLOMON says:

Let us no go away with this summer open window remaining days and also consider the defensive error we have been having since late. Last season and sign a strong defender I think with that all will be fine with this season. up gunners till I may live nomore!!!

    • deluaro says:

Rumour has that we will now try for Chelseas Alex

  • The BearMan says:

What Wenger must not do is to panic in the transfer market. Avoid the i think, I think, I think mode, then return to old habits, this seems to be a better bargain then when you take it home realize it did not live up to expectation. With clothes one can push it to the back of the wardrobe, however, he will be reminded for an entire season should he bring in another donkey.

  • Awokunle Samson says:

Well all know is that Wenger should sign an experience defender, midfielder and striker one for each position that will three signing so that we can achieve this season. Gunner till i die.

    • Chris says:

That’s what he said he will sign, cross fingers :)

  • Thorny says:

johnson ….yes please. the guy is awesome. just ask the england team . he never gets enough pitch time at city.. get him!!

  • kafur says:

I will be very delighted to see adam coming to arsenal and ihope it will not be just a news .please arsene sighn him

  • steve says:

If Adam Johnson was coming to Arsenal then they would have done it as part of the swap with Nasri, im afraid thats one deal thats not happening unfortunately.

  • s4r0am says:

these two would be great. but if we sign park, lile won’t be too happy. johnson would be an excellent replacement for nasri (he’s never shy to shoot) and eden hazard can replace arshavin next season

  • Chiedozie says:

As we all know our coach can see but can’t buy am praying to god to help us be/cos i don’t see any one comeing in again let the wil of god be done in this our dear club arsenal.i be gunner’s fan till jesus come, i love all arsenal fans meet me in faceboo chiedo46@yahoo.com i be arsenal man 4 life.

  • kingesque says:

It would be phenomenal to bring in the trio – johnson , park and arteta. It would rily elevate the squad in quality.

I really think arsene is really gonna suprise we gooners afterall by bringing in quality players.

    Victoria concordia cresit !!!

  • Damn_gallas says:

With the imminent arrival of Park and maybe even Cahill the future looks brighter for both arsenal and its fans. However, there are also many reports linking us to M’Vila, Arteta and even Adam Johnson. The deal with Hazard looks dead, especially our hijacking of their deal with Park.

Obviously, the obvious choice for the fans would be to have hazard and cahill as our next 2 signings. But I think that at the end of the transfer window, only Cahill would be an arsenal player along with Park.

Thus my obvious first eleven: Szezcesny, Sagna, Cahill, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Song, Wilshere, Ramsey, Gervinhno, RvP and Walcott.

Against more physical team, my team would be: Szezcesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Cahill, Vermaelen, Song, Frimpong, Wilshere, Gervinho, RvP and Walcott

My carling and FA cup team would be: Fabianski, Jenkinson, Scquillaci, Ignasi, Traore, Coquelin, Lansbury, Miyaichi, Alex, Chamakh and Park

Players to watch this season: Alex, Miyaichi, Jenkinson

    • Jason says:

      Where goes Djourou,Rosicky and Arshavin?

      • Ross says:

All but asharvin leaving I hope. Djourou is the centre of any defensive mishaps we make. Every time he plays we concede weak goals, he is lost positionally and erratic

        • nasri chip a tooth says:

not a chance y wud we let rosicky go wen he in the form of his life the only bright spark of our outfield players this season

    • GUN says:

Koscielny can be a good left back. wenger should buy 2 CBs( 1 first team and another as backup), a world class play maker and 1 striker. Most importantly a world class playmaker. Else we are going to be in a relegation battle.

  • faris says:

come on wenger , get him now asap …he is very creative player ..

  • Dan says:

I’m just so sad and frustrated i’m about to cry. its second half and we’re down by 6!!! our board are a bunch of WANKERS!!!! they should be ashamed!!
what kind of miracles do they expect wenger to do with 7 first team players out of the club, and only one signing to replace them?! it breaks my heart to watch our players fight and try so hard to do good on the pitch withing their limitations. it feels like watching a dissabled man trying to cross the road without his wheelchair.
i’m so mad at our stupid board and the fact that they dont even have the decency to stand up infront of our poor manager and say – we admit, we fucked up! shame on them! shame on them!

  • Mark says:

The Arsenal Board are happy to take our money for tickets and merchandise but are not willing to spend some money on players. Time we started boycotting games until they start spending some money on players. Lets boycott all games until they spend 70 million on new players.

    • tonygunner says:

If things don’t improve soon, the board will be lucky to have 30,000 in the seats particularly at these prices. Who is going to pay the highest ticket prices in the world to watch crap?

  • arsenal fans wil be happy to see cahill….johnson and chi yung in emirate….it will be worse if arsenal didnt sign this guys this season

  • Castin says:

i would love to see Johnson and Chu Young at Arsenal

  • tonygunner says:

    I’m tired of transfer rumours.
These latest rumour players are medioccre compared to what we really need.
We need defenders after what we witnessed today at OT.
Late’s hope something worthwhile happens by Wednesday.
Remember, the darkest hour is before the dawn.

  • otunba says:

Great players need the right environment 2 thrive. Arsene understands this and needs us more than before to believe in him like we have been for the years gone by.johnson, arteta, cahill, hazard and raul albiol wd do d trick and be rest assured no one would see us coming!! Arsene, man up to the board and demand an increase in our players wages cos’ they would be taken away again.

  • BoB says:

We still need quality players – if there were any in the PL than I am sure the other big clubs would have made a bid! So why look in the PL – unless they are players that fit in to slots that we really need to fill – not just for this season.
Remember, spending all the huge amounts does not ensure that you will finish in the top your as they will need time to settle in – so be realistic – it is never going to be an easy ride.

Is the CL going to be a hindrance this tear?
