Chu Young Park on his favourite position, Gervinho and English football

The Gunning Hawk - ForumChu Young Park

Arsenal striker Chu Young Park is ready to use World Cup Qualifiers against Lebanon and Kuwait to reach a good fitness level in order to be ready to play for the Gunners.

Speaking to Arsenal Player before the Gunners signed Per Mertesacker, Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun and Andre Santos on the last day of the summer transfer window, the South Korean explained that the Gunners possess one of the best teams in England adding that it is a dream to be a Gunner and very proud to be part of Arsene Wenger’s squad.

Asked if he knows any of the current players, the 26-year old explained that he of course knows Gervinho from the French League, revealing that the two spoke last week with the Ivory Coast International saying that he is very happy to be at the Club.

On his favourite position, Park confirmed that he is a pure striker who plays in a central position as he concluded by saying that he is ready to work hard to adapt to the strong and fast style of English football.

Ahead of the new season, he said:

[The current squad?] I think they are one of the best teams. It really is a dream to be here and I’m very, very proud to be an Arsenal player. Now, I just want to show how good I am and prove myself.

[If I know any players?] No, I don’t know any of the players personally, but I played against Gervinho in the French League. I’ve seen him since I came to the training ground and he talked to me and told me he is very happy since coming to Arsenal. He is the only player I know though.

Gervinho played for Lille and they were a very difficult team to play against. I played for Monaco and it was difficult for us. Last year, Lille were the Champions and they gave us a very difficult game.

[My best position?] The position I feel most comfortable in is up front, I feel very comfortable as a striker.

[How long to settle down?] I didn’t have a full pre-season but I have two games for the national team so I expect my condition to improve very quickly. After that, I will come here and make sure I get to my peak condition so that I’m ready to play for Arsenal.

[The different between the French League and English football?] I’ve heard from many players who play in England and they say English football is very strong and very fast too. The French League is almost the same because it is very tough as well with quick players. I feel that I need to concentrate on my skills, so I can fit in with the Arsenal style of play.

I prefer the “Buckaroo position” – it’s the same as the doggy position, except that you scream out another woman’s name half way through and see how long you can hang on for. Try it!

  • kamil zaki says:

can someone post for me how wil the starting line up be

    • chris from Cambridge says:

      Good question !

    • WarriorFootball says:

Van Persie can play on the right flank, as he does in his Dutch A team, and Park plays up front. This will be the winning combination. Park’s got an IQ of whopping 150, scored on the school-wide IQ test in his ninth grade. This genius makes him think fast and act fast. That’s why Park scored many non-stop volleys on long-range lobs on the run, somethin’ that you need split-second calculation and execution. Park and Persie with the likes of Walcot, Gervinho, and Arteta will whip and rip through the enemy’s box with lightening give-n-go and devastate enemy’s goal.

  • chris from Cambridge says:

Well if he is a pure striker in a central position … Wenger will have to think how to accommodate him. This means varying away from always 451. Over the years Wenger has failed to get the best out of various expensive players by insisting they played other than their proven position … normally out wide instead of centrally. Reyes, Wiltord, Arshavin, Bendtner (yes Bendtner), Vela, Walcott (?) Also Eboue and Djourou.

Park is no mug but bought … with one eye on cracking the Korean merchandise market.

    • WarriorFootball says:

Yeah, Persie was bought with one eye on the Dutch market, and Arshavin with an eye on the Russian market.

  • Goon boy says:

This is my first team if everybody fit:

    Szchezy
    Sagna Vermaelen mertesacker santos
    Song
    Wilshere arteta
    Walcott Gervinho
    Van persie

    Anybody disagree?

    • david chaula says:

with this line up goon boy,let them come, this time around we gonna show them our true colours

    • young gunnerz says:

lets just hope that we do not play that formation. It doesnt really work. I would rather play a 4-4-2 with Park and RVP working together but that would mean dropping wilshere. I think that we will never get the best out of RVP if we continue to isolate him up top. He loves to get involved into the play and when he comes out of the box into midfield our midfield players do not take his place in the box. The system is flawed and I would like to see a change.

  • Jjkmiles says:

Perfect lineup but must not wait till 70 minutes to make substitutions

  • Bouba says:

Wenger needs to start something different than our usual and boring 4-51.

The 4-5-1 should be perfect if we play away ( or trying to save a result ), but we need to go back the “invincible” style of line up and play.

Also Wenger needs to have different options in case we are dominated or outscored …

  • Long Island Gunner says:

Goon Boy – agreed that such a starting 11 is the default answer. I will be curious to see if Wenger starts of that way right out of the blocks or “eases in” the new signings.

In addition, there will be several “keys” this season that will affect our ability to fight for titles immediately. While I defer judgement in total to Wenger and his staff, one of the aspects we have all suffered through over the past 6 years – coinciding with our lack of silverware – is that Sir Wenger has allowed one poor performance after the next to go on over weeks and months without any consequences for the player(s) in question.

There is a huge difference between “keeping a player’s confidence up” by not benching him after a one-off howler and allowing a sense of complacency about performing at middling levels to take hold of a side.

With that as my background, – and to your point of starting 11 – I think Theo gets 1 or 2 games to start to fulfill his “promise” and not miss one sitter after the next, not disappear when the service becomes less than ideal and not evaporate when the defending scheme is difficult to deal with.

As for the sub-par performances one need only look at Rambo who has been – frankly – well off the pace of the top tier of EPL standards. Same for Djourou, same for Gibbs (hence the signings I suspect).

If Wenger has truly returned to his more “merits” based approach to playing time (from his earlier days at the club) and put aside – somewhat – his “they need to be protected” approach, I see Park and Miyachi – as well as Benayoun – getting gobs of time immediately after any below par performance by anyone but RVP. I really don’t know about the man-management issues that will arise for Rambo, Arshavin, Rosicky, Djourou, Gibbs and Chamakh (who looks like all of his confidence has just bled out of his body), but so be it! That’s how champions are forged.

One of the great aspects of this team on the defensive side that I see – is that I rate Koscelny more than most on this site and he can play Centre Half on the left or the right and would complement Mertesaker almost as well as our “vice captain” – Tommy V. With that aspect in place Vermaelen can also play the left back slot should we need some strong defending out there from time to time (Real Madrid & Ronaldo anyone?).

    My 2 cents.

  • Liam says:

Wilshire will always be in the team. if we go 442 he can sit left mid in a pires type roll, he has so much creativity and with santos on overlap would work well.

    sagna Mertesacker TV5 santos
    Gervinho Arteta song wilshire
    park RVP

I think will work but this team can soon change to old formation with wilshire moving inside and Gervinho moving more forward.

Now we can really start our season!!!!!

Park Just score 3 goal in his national team korea !
