Lyon reveal Yoann Gourcuff offer – Cesc hurt – Bendtner not coming back

Some interesting news out there today, so let’s get right into it. Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed that Arsenal made a last day inquiry for Yoann Gourcuff, but the French club rejected the proposed loan move.
Personally, I’m glad that this loan didn’t go through. Many have speculated that Gourcuff would be a ideal addition, but I’m not convinced. Injuries have plagued his recent seasons, and that has been part of the reason why he has struggled to find form the past few years.
Maybe he could resurrect his career at Arsenal, but at this point, I think I am quite content with loaning Yossi Benayoun, who can step in as a leader immediately, and has several years of Premier League experience under his belt.
And in two rather contrasting stories, Cesc Fabregas has revealed that not only does he closely follow his old club Arsenal, the 8-2 defeat was painful for him as it was for Gooners everywhere. Meanwhile, it’s not been two days past since Nicklas Bendtner has left (on loan to Sunderland) and he’s already slagging Arsenal and proclaiming he will never ever return.
First off, for Little Nicky (watch the movie, Adam Sandler does a bang-on impression, in my opinion, of our former striker), he would do well to remember that it’s a LOAN move, and that if he under performs like we all know he is capable of, he will be back at Arsenal again, as we once again have to beg some mid-table team to take him off our hands.
I always thought that Bendtner was mismanaged, but it’s impossible to argue that he made the most of his chances either. And when you factor in his world-class attitude, it’s tough to see how he could ever play for Arsenal again. Too bad, oh well, boo hoo. Now on to players actually deserving of a mention.
Cesc Fabregas has really impressed me in the last few weeks, and not just with his incredible start to his Barcelona career (although one might say that two trophies in three games is par for the course at Barca).
He’s impressed me because you can tell that (a) He is still a cares deeply for Arsenal and follows all of the results, and (b) that he is a true Gooner, the same way that Wilshere and Frimpong are, and that the Nasri’s and Bendtner’s will never ever be.
In following Cesc on twitter, I have noticed that when he refers to Arsenal, he still uses the pronoun “we”. He actively mentions Arsenal, as much if not more than he does Barcelona. It is readily apparent that our club is in his heart. I believe more than ever, and maybe for the first time ever, that leaving Arsenal truly was a heartbreaking decision for him.
I didn’t see the need at the time, but now more than ever I am very happy Arsenal negotiated a buy-back clause (or was it just first refusal?) for Cesc. I would love to see him back at Arsenal someday. He’s as classy as they come, but what’s more, he’s loyal. And as Arsenal have found out this summer, loyalty is a very rare commodity.
