Jack Wilshere Injury News May Overshadow Bright International Weekend

Every time there is an International break, Arsenal fans grit their teeth, close their eyes, and say prayer that one of our players will not suffer a big injury during some trivial international tie. Unfortunately, today we got the bad news we were hoping to avoid. It wasn’t anyone away on International duty, but our young phenom Jack Wilshere.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Arsenal may be without the 19-year-old’s services for around three months. The injury that Wilshere sustained to his ankle has already ruled him out for much of the preseason, and of course all of the early Premier and Champions league games.
Wilshere had hoped to make it back in time for the second leg of the Udinese tie, but with this layoff, Arsenal will be without one of their brightest midfielders for much of the season. I want to wish Jack all the best and a speedy recovery, Arsenal need him healthy and in good form as soon as possible.
Given the nature of this injury, I have to wonder a bit about Arsene’s actions in the market. I believe Arteta and Benayoun can be solid reinforcements, but with the long-term layoff of Wilshere, I now have to view those signings with a ‘two steps forward, one step back’ attitude.
Given that Arteta and Benayoun are no stranger to injury themselves, the Gunners can easily be back to square one if things should go awry. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that, .
My last final note on the subject is this: if January should roll around, and Wilshere is still struggling to return to the pitch then Please Arsene, please buy some cover. Please play it safe, bring in some depth. Don’t insult our intelligence with claiming Wilshere will be like a new signing, nobody wants “like-new.”
As for the rest of internationals, I have to say (knocking on wood first), the weekend came off pretty well. Chu-Young Park, Robin van Persie and Aaron Ramsey scored a combined 8 goals between them. Park’s hat-trick was particularly impressive, I thought.
In addition to that, Benayoun, Rosicky, and Walcott all had nice outings for their countries (I haven’t watched France’s Friday qualifier yet, so can’t speak for our French players). And proving that Arsenal still know how to find a good youngster, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Henri Lansbury linked up very well, in action for the U21s this weekend.
I’m certainly hoping that our players can take some of this good international form back to London with them when domestic and Champions leagues resume next weekend. It’d be great to see Arsenal seize the moment and begin to build some momentum after being buoyed by the last minute signings that joined the club.

It has become imperative to question just how qualified/competent the medical staff are. They never ever seem to get it right. They always make bad calls, diagnosis and projections about our players’ injuries. This is the same way they said Rosicky was just a couple of weeks away to fitness and he spent over a year out. The same way they said Vermaleen was out for a couple of weeks and he spent most of the season out and contributed to our not getting back-up for him. Its about time they are really questioned. Its time for the new, and the old way of doing things must pass away.
