Arsenal midfielder Yossi Benayoun has finally settled down at Arsenal as he is finally enjoying regular time on the pitch and scored his first goal, on Tuesday, against Shrewsbury Town.
Speaking to Arsenal Player, the Israel International confessed that the decision to join the Gunners was not a difficult one to take as at the age of 31 he again has the opportunity to feature for one of Europe’s most important Clubs after playing important games for Liverpool and Chelsea during his time in England.
On his first two games with the Gunners in which he first came on as a substitute against Swansea and then started as a regular away against Borussia Dortmund, the midfielder confessed that he was pleased with his performances, especially the hard game in Germany.
And on the possibility of lifting trophies with Arsenal, Benayoun concluded by saying that he went close to win silverware with West Ham and Liverpool and that he’s confident that the Gunners can this season aim for trophies as they possess the quality to do it.
On his first days at the Club, the Israeli said:
[Why Arsenal?] It’s one of the biggest clubs in Europe, you know. Of course, I was lucky to play for a few big clubs in my career: Liverpool, Chelsea where I played a little bit because I was unlucky [because of injuries].
And of course when I got the chance to play for another big club like Arsenal it was like a dream come true.
[If I knew other players before joining?] Well I knew them from playing against them. The only one I knew a little bit was [Mikel] Arteta because we had common friends in Liverpool so we met a few times.
But all the others just from playing against them, it’s never been easy playing against them so now it’s good to be with them.
[My first two games?] First it was great to be involved, first home game, I was only two days with the team and I played half an hour so I was very pleased. It was important to win the game especially after what happened at Old Trafford.
No matter how you play you need three points to build a little bit of confidence.
And I think we also went to Dortmund, it was a very hard game and a point away from home in the Champions League was a fair and good result.
[Trophies?] When you get to a big club you want to win trophies. I was unlucky, very close with Liverpool, actually I was very close with West Ham also, I was one minute from winning the FA Cup when Stevie [Gerrard] scored the 3-3.
Hopefully, when you reach a club like Arsenal you dream to win trophies.
I’m sure we have the quality to do it. Of course, we had a very bad start to the season so we need to push now to improve and hopefully together we can build belief and confidence.

Two games and he`s out with a side strain….as an ex rugby coach I think I`d better keep my mouth shut.
