Arsenal Football Club have released the below statement on the Club’s official website concerning midfielder Jack Wilshere:

Jack Wilshere will undergo surgery on his right ankle on Monday morning.

Wilshere has recently been wearing a protective boot aimed at allowing a stress fracture of the ankle time to heal naturally and avoid surgery.

However, scans this week have revealed that the fracture has not responded positively during this period.

Throughout Jack’s injury, the Club has been guided by the continuous advice of several world-renowned specialists.

The information attained this week has led to the conclusion that surgery is now required to gain an optimal response.

Wilshere is now expected to be out for a period of months. Following surgery these timescales will become more specific.

A Club spokesman said: “We have given Jack time to heal naturally which is important wherever possible with a young player.

The latest scans show surgery is needed. Everyone at the Club wishes Jack a speedy recovery.”

On his Twitter account, the 19-year old confirmed that he will be back at the end of the year:

Been in a boot for a month and the bone is not responding. I will have surgery on my right ankle on monday with the two best surgeons around … hopefully i will return to action around christmas time. i am in good hands! thanks for your support everyone!

This year is Wilshere.. who will be next year?

  • Bouba says:

    Ohhhh here we go again….!!!

I just feel that the Arsenal medical staff or who ever they are consulting is totally incompetent…
Are we going for “Vermaelen type” of saga?

Like we did not have enough problems already !!!
The player who could have been the “platform” of our midfield is now out for longer.

I am not surprised with the amount of games he played last season ( about 60 )

Wenger and his lack of back ups ( yes, sorry, Wenger fault again ).

Total miss management from the manager, once again.

    I feel sorry for Wilshere.

I feel Wilshire may not be seen again this season ala Vermaelan last season. First it was a few weeks, he’s in a boot doing well, then it’s surgery 3 months, then when that is up it will be, “he’s suffered a reaction, out for another 3 months” heard it all before. Its unfolding just like Vermaelan and Rosicky.

what do Arsenal Do with there players at training? why are we so injury prone. seriously we need an inquiry into this. Buy another clubs fitness coach to come and do an inspection of our training routines.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Amazing how we`ve grown to accept these so called `minor two week injuries` that for some inexplicable reason turn into at least one key player missing for most, if not all, of the season. You get used to it. Surgery…surgery….surgery..I just don`t accept it, someone has become knife happy.

  • Nameless says:

We need you Jack! Get healthy, then get BIG come ‘12!!!!

  • venky says:

May be you are in good hands but without you Arsenal are not. Thats half a season lost !! . what is it with Arsenal ? whoever in our squad finishes strong the previous season misses a majority of next season
