Ignasi Miquel: Why Vermaelen is the one who inspires me the most

Arsenal defender Ignasi Miquel is not on Twitter and is not thinking – at least for the near future – about creating an account.
Answering fan questions on Arsenal Player, the Spaniard confirmed all accounts carrying his name are fake as he also revealed that his English is very fluent not just from taking lessons but also by interacting with the rest of the squad in the dressing room and on the pitch.
Asked who he believes is the strongest centre back of all time, the youngster confessed that his knowledge of the game is not deep enough to answer the question although he did praise Barcelona’s Carles Puyol and Gerard Piqué, two players who have been very successful with Barcelona and the Spanish National team over the last few years.
And on who is the one who inspires him the most at Arsenal, the 18-year old was full of praise for Belgium’s Thomas Vermaelen who is considered by many as the best centre back at the Club with Miquel saying that he is the one who follows to improve his own game as a defender.
In reply to questions made by fans, Miquel said:
[My Twitter account?] No, it’s fake, I’m not on Twitter right now and to be fair I’m not thinking about it right now, maybe in the future I will but right now I’m not on it.
[My English?] When I came here, obviously I had lessons because I had no idea but once in the dressing room you have to try to express yourself one way or the other so both helped me, English lessons to improve but with my team-mates, trying to express myself [it helped as well].
[My favourite centre back of all time?] To be fair, I started to watch football, proper football, like four-five years ago.
I’ve always been around Barcelona, I always looked at Carles Puyol or Gerard Piqué but I wouldn’t say there are the best centre backs in the world, so no, I don’t particularly have one.
[Who in the current squad inspires me the most?] Thomas Vermaelen. I think he’s the main centre back I just have been looking at over the last couple of years.
I really like the way he plays football and I think, right now, he’s one of the best, every time that I watch Arsenal I look at him, try to improve myself by looking at him and the way he plays.

A very promising player! One I know can go straight into the starting lineup in couple of years. He has won the U-19 European Championship with Spain starting and playing a full 90 min in every match! Verty promising…
Looking forward to follow his development…
