Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin believes the Gunners should have been more precise in front of goal as they secured a hard-fought win over Olympiacos, on Wednesday night.
Speaking to his personal website after the game, the Russia International explained that just like all games in Europe the one against the Greeks was not easy as he added that the Gunners started brightly, scored two early goals but allowed Olympiacos back into the game after they lost their concentration allowing the visitors to score from a corner.
The 30-year old was also disappointed that the Gunners didn’t take their chances in the second half, half in which Ernesto Valverde’s men adopted an all-out-attack policy because of which they left gaps to exploit at the back.
Yesterday’s was Arsenal’s third win in a row after the Carling Cup win over Shrewsbury and the convincing 3-0 win against Bolton last week with the Gunners now to shift their focus to Sunday’s North London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, at White Hart Lane.
After the 2-1 win, Arshavin said:
I think that Arsenal had a difficult match. Actually, the wins don’t usually come easy in the Champions League.
We started off brightly, quickly scored two goals. However, soon we allowed our opponent to bring intrigue into the game. I think that it’s our fault that this goal was scored.
First, we didn’t figure out that episode with one corner, then with another. After 2 1 our opponent started to feel confident. I guess they thought that they can score some more in our goal.
Therefore, in the second half, Olympiacos acted impudently, they rushed their major forces into attack. We had to punish them.
But, having good chances, we could not do it. Well, a win is a win. And now I am very glad that we are starting to win.
