Gervinho on his role model and favourite player of all-time and season targets

The Gunning Hawk - ForumGervinho

After serving a three-match suspension for violent conduct, Arsenal winger Gervinho is finally back on the pitch and ready to help his team-mates.

With his only goal so far this season coming in the English Premier League against Blackburn Rovers away from home, the Ivory Coast International told Arsenal Player that Arsenal legend Thierry Henry and Brazil’s Ronaldo have always been his two favourites players, two strikers who the 24-year old tries to copy.

Asked if he took any advice before joining the Gunners, he added that he spoke with all those around him and that they all confirmed that Arsenal would be the perfect destination after Lille as it would be a place where he would surely enjoy himself.

On what his objectives are for this season, Gervinho concluded by saying that his target is to score goals and turn provider for his team-mates hoping that the Gunners will be in a good position at the end of the campaign.

On his role models and life at Arsenal, Gervinho said:

[My role model and favourite player in my position?] My favourite player has always been Thierry Henry or the Brazilian Ronaldo.

They are both attacking players like myself and I’ve always copied their game, always tried to be like them.

[If I spoke to any other players before joining Arsenal?] I spoke to the people around me, the people who are close to me.

They told me that this would be a Club where I would enjoy being and playing for, and that was that.

I discussed everything over and again with everyone, with my future manager as well and I got advice from the people around me, my family, and here I am.

[My targets for the season?] Well, my main aim is to win games for the team and score goals, of course, and make some assists.

So, at the end of the season, if the team is in a good position then my target would have been achieved. My prime target, though, for the season, is to reach the very top with this team.

  • Mohamed Zubairu says:

Gervinho is an exciting player who need to develop certain aspects of his game in order to be a top player. His dribbling skills are quite impressive by which he can beat defender in one-on-one situations. He needs to improve his decision making with regards to when to pass to a better positioned team mate or when to shoot for goal. He should also work on his first and last touch of the ball. Hard work to improve will take him to the top of his game.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Gervinho to me is an instinct player, he`s not deliberately selfish just a bloodhound.

If we`re going to get the best out of him players like RVP and Ox-Chamberlain have got to track him and be prepared for the unexpected, then bounce.
