Aaron Ramsey: What we need to do to turn things around this season

The Gunning Hawk - ForumAaron Ramsey

Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey believes the Gunners are still in time to turn things around in the English Premier League.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, the Wales International explained that the start of the season was not an easy one for Arsene Wenger’s men adding that the Gunners however possess enough quality in the squad to bounce back from a very disappointing start to the campaign although to do it they have to defend better, especially as a unit.

Asked if Gareth Bale mentioned the White Hart Lane defeat when the two joined the Welsh National team, the 20-year old revealed that the Spurs man said nothing following the 2-1 defeat, a defeat that still hurts as it relegated the Gunners to a very disappointing 15th place in the table.

Ramsey was on target from the penalty spot as Wales battled their way past Switzerland last week and featured again last night as Gary Speed’s side faced Bulgaria in Sofia in a 2012 European Championship Qualifying match.

On what the Gunners need to do to improve, Ramsey said:

It’s been a difficult time for us so far but I’m sure things will turn around soon.

I think we have the quality it’s just that we need to defend better as a team and hopefully we can sort that out pretty quickly to turn things around.

[What Gareth Bale told me after the game?] He hasn’t said anything about the game to me so far so it hasn’t been too bad.

I always like to meet up with Wales and it’s nice to see everyone again and to be a part of something. He hasn’t really said anything so it’s better that way I think.

Haha! Thumbs up to that comment!

What I feel is that Arsenal need just three things:
    1. A shrink (don’t know how you can’t up your game when playing a derby)
    2. A diagnostics team (Dr. House would do)
    3. Media blackout. No player should speak to the media until the friggin’ results improve. They’ve been talking gas for ages now.

    • alan says:

things won’t change quickly, unless the fans BOYCOTT consecutive home games; that will scare the shit out of the greedy board that won’t let us buy high quality players…
you have to take action to be noticed, so while you are still paying for the wages of the board, nothing will change…

      • Ganesh says:

That’s a complicated situation actually. If we’re fans we must support the club, and be with them through thick and through thin. Right now, the players need our support, but yes, the board are responsible for our situation so they need a hit on the face too. We could support the team from outside the stadium because it’s too friggin’ expensive to enter and too expensive for the kind of football we get to watch anyway.

  • Steve says:

To turn the season around we need to get rid of average players, like Ramsey, Walcott and quite a few others, then get rid of wenger and the board. Then we can have a new manager interested in winning something and bring in quality players.

    • NIJUN says:

thats what i heard from s*uds fan…please, dont talk about wenger, talk about kroenke

    • Stanley says:

So pretty much you want to change the whole team? You are the definition of a bad supporter.

    • gooner11 says:

or why dont we just close down the whole team and the 125 years over organization?? that would turn some things around **sarcasm**

  • truegooner says:

what we need to do to turn things around is (for the time being at least) is either replace Ramsey with the Ox is midfield or change our formation and add another striker.

  • 9jagun says:

He should go and sit down. He is the ones who messes the game up always going back with the ball and giving passes to his opponent.

  • John says:

Say what you want about his skill level, but Ramsey shows maturity way beyond his age which is something this team seems to lack at times (such as red card situations). I also wonder why people question his work ethic, when player stats pop up after each game it is usually Ramsey who covered the most ground from both teams playing on the day.

    • Naija_gunner says:

covers most ground???? jeez……wish he poses a THREAT with such feat. Nothing bro….nothing…..that’s how sad the story is!

    • Hunter says:

The problem is where he covers it and when. Like when he jogs back after he has given the ball away for the 3rd or 4th time in a match. I don’t care if you run 20 km per match. If you can’t be in the right spot and the right time and not give the ball away then you are useless.

    • Simon says:

Ahhhh – so Ramsey has “maturity” – good for him.

I’m sure Stephen Hawking was very mature at 20yo as well – nobody was suggesting that he play midfield for Arsenal.

Look, Ramsey may become a very good player – he’s not one at the moment – in fact he’s a bit of a liability. Yes he seems very mature and he covers a lot of ground (chasing balls that he has given away) but so what?

He’s not at fault – Wenger is to blame for thrusting far too much responsibility on the young man at this stage of his career.

    • gulla0 says:

Covered the most ground!!! This ain’t a marathon this is football.

  • Archimedes says:

Can’t shoot, can’t make that final assisting pass.

    • Stanley says:

Didn’t he score our only goal against the spurs?

      • AmericanUptheArse says:

but didnt he look awful giving the ball away to the other team as well?

  • sylvester says:

Same lines being repeated over again et song, walcott.
They should be doing the talking on the pitch.Got nothing personally against the Welshman but since the Shaw’s tackle he isnt the same and we need someone in his position to run the midfield. When our 19 yr old dad comes back, he wont have any chance in the side apart from the cups unless he throttles up.
Big up gooners all over the world.

  • Stuart says:

Less talking from players, to the media. More action on the field. Give your whole, there would be less cricism. Hunt in packs when trying to get the ball back. When we have chased the game in the past few minutes we have tried three strikers, why not from the beginning. R.V.P. why do you take corner kicks .Perm the forward line from Rio, Ger, Rob,Park, Theo and Oxo. New formation up front and also at the back. To stop goals from set pieces ,stop giving away unnecessary fouls, boot the ball upfield when under pressure.
As we are still learning to defend, stop playing the high line and keep someone back, when not chasing the game.
What about Kos and Ver. as fullbacks?
Shoot on sight, attack after attack.

  • GunnerNL says:

I don’t know, at Wales he’s playing very well but he doesn’t show the same for Arsenal, well he shows glimpses and has a knack for goals and assists but his game could surely improve. He’s the missing link imo but he really should step his game up now!

  • Bouba says:

Vancouver Gunner, your comment was spot on.

Ramsey is a liability and so are Walcott, Djourou, Arshavin and plenty more.

We have a squad of average players, doing an average and sometime “null” job…
