Song: Why I’m not surprised Gervinho is making a difference in games

The Gunning Hawk - ForumGervinho

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song revealed that he always knew that Gervinho would become a big asset for the Gunners, this season.

Gervinho’s impact at Arsenal was one to remember as he scored a brace in a pre-season friendly game against FC Köln, immediately showing that he was going to be a valuable asset as a winger but also as a central striker, if required, with the 24-year old unsurprisingly nominated for the African player of the year award.

And speaking to Arsenal’s Official Matchday Programme, the Cameroon International explained that he follows the French league and identified the Ivory Coast winger last season as one who could do well in Arsene Wenger’s squad, reason why he is not surprised by his fantastic start to the season.

Song also revealed that Gervinho is a quiet figure in the Arsenal squad but one who does the talking on the pitch as he already scored two goals in the English Premier League and also turned provider for his team-mates, especially for striker Robin van Persie.

On his friend, Song said:

I watch a lot of the French league at home so I knew when Gervinho arrived that he was a very good player.

I’m not surprised to see him doing well here and I think there’s more to come. It’s not easy to come to the English league, it’s harder and stronger.

But he’s getting used to it and I’m really happy to see him making a difference in games.

Gervinho is a very quiet guy, not one who talks too much, but I think it’s normal that you look and listen when you arrive somewhere before saying a lot.

I think he’s now coming out of himself and you can see it on the pitch too.

Better than Nasri. Next season when we have new players and everyones pretty much gelled, he and the rest of the squad should glow.

    • apek says:

I think we should stop comparing our players with the our former players. Nasri has done brilliant for our club during his time playing in the shirt. I can understand the disappointment among the fellow gunners, when he said something not nice about the fan – but can we blame him for that. After all it is comment like this that strengthen his belief about the fan. The least that we can do is respect his decision to leave, even it means he’s going to a club like citeh.

      Cheers

  • John Muhindo says:

His strong to have fit in arsenal squad immediately. Bravo to him. I can now breath.

  • Wilson Handjengo says:

I totally agreed he is a special player i like him a lot and the is still room to improve keep it up my boy u are doing a great job.

  • vickie says:

gerv is a fantastic player, and i think walcott should learn how to cut in and how to delete your opponent in one on one situations other than just running and wasting your energy aimlessly. Lastly, wenger shouldn’t be stupid to be removing gerv while walcott is still on the pitch, cos we know who is better. Gerv didn’t handshake wenger the last time he got subbed while it was obvious that walcott was aimless and contributed nothing.

  • tanim says:

He still needs to improve on some things like his first touch but obviously its his first season in the EPL. I have no doubt he will be a very good player at the end of the season and next year. It has been a while since weve had a player that can run at defenders. and he can score goals.
