Arshavin disappointed with form, hopes to turn it around with Russia achievement

Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin confessed that his performances for Arsenal have been “average” but hopes to do better now that Russia qualified for Euro 2012.
Speaking to The Guardian and to Arsenal’s official website, the 30-year old explained that he has done some good things at the North London Club but how overall his performances should be archived as average as he rarely managed to express himself on the pitch as he fails to take control of games.
But, with Russia successfully reaching the last stage of Euro 2012, the experienced midfielder now hopes to help the Gunners as he declared that he is finally “completely relaxed and comfortable”.
Arshavin’s problems at Arsenal started after his National team failed to qualify for the 2010 World Cup Finals as he concluded by admitting that International results are very important to him as it is pivotal for the Russian National team to be involved in big competitions such as the World Cup and the European Cup.
On his form, the 30-year old said:
Speaking honestly, I think my performances for Arsenal have been average. I’ve done some good things but I don’t assess my game on goals or assists – I look at the whole picture.
Normally when I’m on the pitch, I take control of a game but I haven’t really done that here. I’m an extra tool in the team rather than the main one, so it’s been different.
Since Russia qualified for Euro 2012 I’ve felt completely relaxed and comfortable.
Hopefully that will show in my performances, because mentally I feel much better than before.
International results are very important to me and it’s vital that Russia go to big tournaments – we missed out on the World Cup but have made a big step now.
I think people are happier and I certainly know everyone’s hoping that we are drawn to play our games in Ukraine.
The fans won’t need visas there and we will have huge travelling support.
That can only be good for us. The mood is good; the media has been very critical but since we qualified they have been silent, which is fine by me.
