Marouane Chamakh: At the moment it’s between myself and Robin van Persie

Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh is fully aware of the fact that featuring as a regular is unlikely for the Gunners, this season.
With Robin van Persie enjoying the best form of his life, the Morocco International confessed that even though he joined last season, he’s still settling down in North London adding that his objective is to learn, enjoy himself and stay with the Gunners for as long as possible.
Asked about how tough it is to sit on the bench week-in, week-out, the 27-year old honestly admitted that it’s hard as a footballer always wants to enjoy action, adding that it’s between him and the Dutch striker for a place in Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.
With Ju Young Park surely having other ideas on the subject, Chamakh concluded by saying that he would be happy to play alongside the Arsenal captain but also that a change in formation is very unlikely considering how strong the Gunners have been over the last few weeks.
On this season, the striker said:
Of course there are a lot of good strikers around. I haven’t played much this year with [Robin] van Persie coming back from injury but for me it’s still been a settling in period.
And it’s good to play for a Club like Arsenal, it’s good that I’m getting used to the league. I am trying to learn, to enjoy it and long may continue.
[Hard to sit on the bench?] Of course, it’s hard. I haven’t played that much but that’s up to the manager.
At the moment it’s between myself and [Robin] van Persie and of course the way he is playing, it’s got to be him.
But that’s the system and the way of playing here. I respect that and it’s working very well.
It would be better for me if we played with two strikers. I think we could play together, with two upfront and of course I want to play every game for the rest of the season.
But at the moment there is a world class striker keeping me out of the team. That’s the way it is, that’s football and if the system were to change we would need another striker.
[Targets for the rest of the season?] Well, it’s simple, I’m really hoping to play a bit more this season and I’m hoping I get the opportunity to show what I can do.
