Arsenal striker Robin van Persie was full of praise for colleague Theo Walcott as he identified the Englishman’s assists as one of the reasons why he scored 100 goals for the Gunners.
Speaking in his “Robin van Persie 100 Goals” DVD, the Holland International explained that the two have a special connection with both players knowing each other to perfection, a vital element in a team, especially in the offensive department and with the two again linking well together in Arsenal’s first goal against Norwich City.
On one of his most important goals, the equaliser against Barcelona at the Emirates Stadium, the 28-year old admitted that the joy of the fans was what made him happy about the goal as he identified one fan with an Arsenal shirt and hat as why important goals are important for the fans.
And on his first ever goal for the Club, the Dutchman joked about the fact that he celebrated in the wrong area of the pitch as he went back to October 2004 and the game against Manchester City.
Speaking about his goals, the Dutch maestro said:
[My relationship with Theo Walcott?] After every single goal, people ask me, ‘Who gave the assist?’ I just say, ‘Who do you think?’ We have that connection. I know what he is going to do, which is very important.
It’s vital to have a player around me, as a striker, who knows where I move, how I move, do I want the ball into feet, do I want it behind. He knows where to find me. Stuff like that is vital.
[The Barcelona equaliser from last season? I've seen images of fans celebrating that win. It just makes me really happy to see that.
There's one picture in my mind of a fan dressed up with Arsenal shirt on, a hat on and he was just screaming it out!
It was like the best moment of his life. It made me so happy. You could see what it meant to him and it made me even more happy to see that.
When the whole stadium is desperate for a goal, as a footballer, when you are the one who scores it, then it gives you a boost.
[My first ever Arsenal goal?] I lost it a bit! It was very good, it was very memorable. I went and celebrated with the wrong fans!
