Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was full of praise for midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong, a fighter who always wants to win games.
Speaking ahead of today’s away game against Wigan Athletic, the Frenchman explained that the youngster is not scared to win the ball, reason why the other players and the fans respect him and also that he is a positive boy who respects people.
Asked about Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Arsenal boss said that the Englishman has to improve the defensive side of the game but also that he will use the 18-year old, if required, during the busy Christmas period.
On the two youngsters, Wenger said:
[Emmanuel Frimpong] is a fighter and when he goes on the football pitch he does so to win the game.
You like to go to war with him because you know you can rely on him as he goes into every challenge to win the ball.
That makes a difference because people see and feel that. That’s why he is respected [by players and fans].
You must understand how far you can go, where you are disrespectful and where you are not. You learn that as well.
He is a good character, a positive boy who respects people and wants to do well. He is full of energy so of of course it is important to channel that in the right way.
Defending is not [Oxlade-Chamberlain's] preferred side but unfortunately at the top level today you have Messi doing it, Rooney, Ronaldo, Van Persie – so why should he not do it?
There is no other way to succeed anymore. That’s why, of course, I believe he has the quality to do it.
He has the physical ability and he is not scared to go into challenges. He can take a challenge.
To add that to his game will make him stronger because he will win some balls in areas where he can be dangerous. He’s a player who has an impact.
I believe he is still in a period where training every day with top players is important for him to improve.
He has quality when he plays in games – he is not fazed by the importance of them. He’s the kind of personality that makes you think he can play on the big stage.
You have seen him already before Christmas and I have no restrictions at all.
For me, if I need him he will play. I don’t think it is too early for him to play anymore.
