Gael Clichy, “It is even more complicated now to win the league but we have to keep fighting until the end”

Submitted by Renzo on February 9, 2010 – 4:00 10 Comments

It may not come easy for Arsenal to stay positive after Sunday’s defeat but left-winger Gael Clichy believes the squad has to keep on fighting until the end in the English Premiership.

Speaking after Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat, the Frenchman revealed the Gunners will now be hoping for other teams to drop points, just as they did when they were eleven points from the top only months ago.

The 24-year old said:

It is even more complicated now to win the league but we have to keep fighting until the end.

We have seen since the start of the season, everyone can drop points against anyone. Of course, it would have been better to win [on Sunday] and against Man United but that is the way it is. We have to keep going. We need to be more decisive in the right moments and the best thing to do is to carry on fighting.

The rule in sport is when you want to be the best, after every defeat you have to ask the right questions to yourself and the team. You have to go again and dig in. That is what we are going to start doing again in training because it is only with hard work and a bit of luck that things can happen. Maybe then we can go somewhere.

this is fantastic Gael Clichy! I hope u have ask urself that question Gael. By the way have u seen ur self in the tape? I hope u have seen that u are one of the reasens why we lost these two games.

    • Pavel says:

Well, regarding the match against ManU, I’ll probably give more credit to Nani than blaming Clichy. But, the first goal against Chelsea is completely his mistake. I was seeing the replay of this again and again, and I do not have any clue why he started wandering around leaving the goal-line. If there is a corner, here is the basic – two players need to cover the two goalposts – and this is just the very basic taught in school and academies. If he were there just even standing, Drogba wouldn’t have space the get the ball in. He should now see that again and again before talking about anything else.

  • Aussie Jack says:

Admirable Gael, now ,concentrate on your game, acknowledge your resposibilities, put your body on the line and remember you are playing for Arsenal not the school boy`s second eleven then some one might listen.

  • old timer says:

How come that it’s only now the season is two thirds over that people like Clichy are saying things like “We’ve got to dig in’ and “We have to be more decisive”.? Don’t these players have this attitude all season long? Sometimes the slow lethargic build up for an attack on the opponents goal defeats the very purpose as Arsenal pass the ball twenty times from side to side and get no end result yet Man U and Chelsea bang, bang bang, three passes and the ball’s in our net.Show some enthusiasm guys and earn your wages

  • Herbert says:

May be you should start playing better…
It is unbelievable that someone like Clichy could come to the News and speaks so much garbage…!!
I can tell you why! he knows he is the first choice any day at his position so he is comfortable, performing well or not…
No rotation because we do not have the quality in the squad…

Anyway he should stop talking because nobody wants to hear what he has to say and start performing according to his international status…

I hope you are reading this Gael. Before I ramble on, I guess its only right for you to ask yourself over the commitment you had rendered for the past 4 games. Sometimes I wonder if you deserve donning the Arsenal crest on your red jersey.

Your boss seems to be obsessed with technique when it comes to his critical nature of buying and breeding potential young talent. If there is nothing wrong with you, I can only blame the egotistical, statistician who thinks he’s all knowing French Professor.

Look Gael, for the money Arsenal pays you per week, can’t you take some time out after training and learn how to whip a decent cross into dangerous areas after training? Its a huge shame to see you being taken for a ride by Nani and Drogba. I wouldn’t wanna discredit their capabilities but they were made to look superbly good because you made yourself look terribly bad! And that bows down to your incapability of intercepting crosses and providing a clean tackle.

And Wenger seems to be all a moaner. C’mon Arsene, your tactics and very predictable. Your substitues come in only on the 60th minute and very seldom, Fabregas the exception, do your boys added more steel or change the way the game is played.

It is as if we already not know that there is a huge mountain to climb. We knew all along but we do wonder if you are taking this seriously.
Keep it simple and clear balls out of the danger zone convincingly dude! And look into the mirror before passing comments!

  • Jim says:

    Gael Clichy,

You represent a disease that spreads around Arsenal. A gifted player with pace, yet you cannot cross. How can you play in the Premier League and don’t give a hoot about crossing the ball. Your concentration is poorer than that of a 5 year old kid. You daydream in a match. I’m happy for you to make a fool of yourself but you condemned us the Arsenal FC to 2 consecutive losses. No, they were not just losses. They were humiliations.

If you, Clichy, can make such statements about winning, why don’t you look hard at yourself and confess, “Look here. It’s all my fault. I promise to work on it and I hope the fans will forgive me”.

Yes its true our gooners are underweight and mentally weak.
